Yinyoo EP1 – Review

Yinyoo EP1

Yinyoo EP1

| 12 mm Dynamic Driver |

? Yinyoo EP1, an affordable earphone with large dynamic drivers and detachable cables.

The Yinyoo EP1 features 12mm dynamic drivers, metal housings and MMCX removable cables.

The Yinyoo EP1 housings are solidly built in metal with only a plastic front.

The front section has 4 ventilation holes and a large semi-flat surface.

Each earpiece is easily recognized with “L” and “R” letters written on the front section of each one and with a color coding on the MMCX connector end of the cable (red= right and white=left) – the cable end, also, holds the “L” and “R” letters for quick recognition.

The metal build extends also to the cable bifurcation section and cable ends on both extremes (3.5mm jack and MMCX connectors).

The nozzles have a pronounced inclination with an angle of 45 degrees (or even more). This angled nozzles design improves the insertion of the nozzles in the ear canal to provide a better overall fit and isolation.

The detachable cable included with the Yinyoo EP1 is thick, rugged and excellent, which makes it already a great deal by the quality of the MMCX cable.

Accessories & Packaging

The Yinyoo EP1 unboxing results in 3 pair of eartips (plus a 4th one already placed on the unit), a semi-hard carrying case and an outstanding detachable MMCX cable – cable nearly identical to the one of the Yinyoo V2 but with MMCX connectors instead of bi-pin.

Everything comes inside a square and small packaging that is inline with the packaging of the BQEYZ BQ3 / BQEYZ KB3, BQEYZ KC2.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The Yinyoo EP1 bass is punchy and adequately deep for most music genres. Yet, there is a bass tuning mildly tending to a more pronounced mid-bass than deep sub-bass – this is marginal and most listeners will not notice it.

Genres such as EDM or tracks requiring intense sub-bass will feel the Yinyoo EP1’s lower frequencies lacking some additional depth.

Nonetheless, this is not an earphone with shallow nor anemic sub-bass and will provide full-sounding sessions.

Applying an EQ, there is a much more punchier and deeper sound revealed, yet it will not make it a basshead earphone.

Putting the Yinyoo EP1 under our extreme basshead tests, they were able to handle up to 45% of the max power coming from a FiiO E12 (now called FiiO A5) with huge increment over mid-bass and sub-bass but do not expect any basshead rumble nor impact from them – for this there are better adapted earphones such as the: Sony MDR7550, Sony MDR-EX800ST, Sony MDR-EX650, Pioneer SE-CX8, Pioneer SE-CX9, Pioneer SE-CX7, KZ ZSR, Xiaomi Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro, Sony MDR-XB50.

Mids & Vocals

The Yinyoo EP1 mids have a warm personality but a reasonably clean sounding lower mids with no extreme mid-bass bleed – yet some congestion is present.

Male vocals are sufficiently energetic and relaxed at the same time.

Higher mids are crisp and a bit more emphasized than their lower midrange; still their mids do not sound unbalanced.

At the same time, peaks on their midrange do not tend to get harsh.

With an EQ, their male vocals and lower mids are very noticeably cleared up and boosted, making it’s overall mids more aggressive but not disturbing (if higher mids are not EQ’ed)

Highs & Treble

The Yinyoo EP1 highs are pleasantly bright and respectably detailed. Their highs are not overly bright but they provide a nice balance between brightness and detail.

Piercing highs are usually not frequent but some sibilance will show up on sibilant-prone tracks.

An EQ reveals a huge amount of detail and drastically opens up their highs but do expect some additional fatiguing peaks.

Sound Leak

The sound leaking out of the Yinyoo EP1 is more or less inline with most average earphones with, perhaps, a marginally lower leakage intensity.

SI

Sound Isolation

The sound isolation provided by the Yinyoo EP1 is noticeable, providing a stronger isolation than normal earphones. The isolation will be noticeable with or without music but will, exponentially, increase while dialing up the volume your music.

C

Comfort

The very angled nozzles, flat front earpieces and narrow back result in a very comfortable but secure fit that can provide hours of listening before getting any pain.

Moreover, the housings have a fairly slim design that allow them to fit flush with the ears – making them a capable earphone for under the helmet use.

EQ

Response to Equalization

The response to EQ was very efficient on their midrange and highs, providing drastic improvement but did not have a strong effect over mid-bass and sub-bass.
