Tiger Zipper – Review

Tiger Zipper

Tiger Zipper

| Dynamic Driver |

? A zipper and an earphone are the parents of the Tiger Zipper. The reason behind making this combination still remains a mystery to us. The housing of the earphones is metallic, the cable is half braided and half a zipper. The zipper part of the earphones is metallic and fully functional, so you can zip them up or down to your level of preference.  The housing has a shape and size pretty bullet-type standard and as you may see in photos the zip is even larger than the earphones. The housings feels sturdy and have enough weight as to not make them feel flimsy. An immediate flaw of these earphones is that the driver flexes badly not only while putting them on but also by any tiny movement or re-position made, we never felt such a terrible crackling driver flex.

A

Accessories & Packaging

The earphones are sold in a simple box with 2 extra eartips, nothing fancy.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

There is a fair amount of mid-bass and pretty deep sub-bass coming from the Tiger Zipper. With an equalizer applied the Tiger improve a lot their punch and depth but sub-bass makes the driver distort. With our extreme basshead test the Tiger Zipper were able to accept up to 37% of a Fiio E12 maximum power with incredible midbass punch and an entry level basshead rumble but the driver keeps distorting horribly.

M

Mids & Vocals

While watching at the results of the bass performance we started to get optimistic about what could mids and highs be on these super cheap earphones. The excitement was brief, mids are warm but very recessed, lower mids and lower vocals sound congested and there is too much midbass bleeding. Higher mids are not as recessed and are not harsh. With an eq they improve substantially but still bass bleed is way too strong.

H

Highs & Treble

The highs of the Tiger Zipper are recessed and lack brightness. Highs are piercing but not sibilant. After applying an EQ the Tiger became much brighter, detail and definition appeared from nowhere but they become very piercing and sibilant.

SL

Sound Leak

The level of sound that leaks out is mediumly reduced, they have a performance slightly above average.

SI

Sound Isolation

Higher volumes are required to more effectively isolate from environmental sounds.

C

Comfort

The regular size and metallic housing makes them fairly comfortable to use what makes them more cumbersome is the zipper, which adds weight and lack of flexibilty.

EQ

Response to Equalization

The ability to gain brightness, detail and definition from nowhere gives the Tiger Zipper some extra points. Bass responds well to a custom eq, extra punch and depth is gained but things get muddier. Mids improve noticeably too after a custom eq is used.
