? BLON BL-05, the newest model from the BL series from BLON.

The BLON BL-05 features a single dynamic driver configuration and detachable QDC-type bi-pin cables.

The specific driver inside each earpiece is a carbon nanotube dynamic driver with a diameter of 10mm.

The earbuds are fully made of metal with a rugged and durable feel that is inline with other recent models such as the:

• TRI i3
• KBEAR Hi7
• KBEAR Diamond
• TRN BA5
• TRN V90

Most people might have met BLON as an earphone’s manufacturer with the very-hyped BLON BL-03 but the brand has been on the market since 2014 and has created a decent number of models that, mostly always, have granted a phenomenal bang for buck and excellent performance.

The BLON BL-05 is available in 4 combinations:

• BLON BL-05 White Steel with mic/remote
• BLON BL-05 White Steel without mic/remote
• BLON BL-05 Light Gun with mic/remote
• BLON BL-05 Light Gun without mic/remote

The BLON BL-05 comes packed in a tall and rectangular box that looks nearly the same to many TFZ headphones.

After unboxing the BLON BL-05, users will find a soft pouch, 5 pair of eartips and the detachable bi-pin cable.

Cable

The cable of the BLON BL-05 has a braided, helix design but a rubberized and build finish that feels a bit cheap or rough.

The cable can be chosen with or without an inline remote and microphone; this mic/remote section is fully made of plastic.

The end of the cable near the bi-pin connector has a hook-styled shape that can be stretched to fit anyone’s ears but cannot be permanently reshaped.

Overall, the cable quality is a bit basic but does not fall behind other alternatives at this price point.

Fortunately, for just a couple of extra bucks, people are able to choose a combo/promo option that includes a way better cable with metal pieces, reinforced connectors and a build quality that grants a miles less-microphonic experience and softer materials – in the photos below you can see some of the available cables in the BLON BL-05 promo.

Bass & Sub Bass

The BLON BL-05 provides a very nicely balanced response that does not sound neither overtuned on it’s mid-bass nor over it’s sub-bass.

As a result of this, their overall bass personality will grant a punchy and deep sound that does not become annoyingly overdone.

BLON did a very good job tuning the lower end of the BL-05 by achieving a punchy and full sound signature that never turns into a boomy mess nor a sub-bass flooded sound.

We wouldn’t recommend this model for bassheads looking into extreme sub-bass with an EQ, yet the BL-05 showed a very good response to EQ with substantial empowering of both punch and depth – if overdone, their sub-bass could start to distort, though.

Through out our extreme basshead test, the Blon BL05 handled up to 40% of the maximum power of our testing amp with exponential increment of punch and depth but their driver followed the same distorting tendency as with solely an EQ.

Mids & Vocals

The BLON BL-05 has a clean lower midrange that does not shows traces of mid-bass bleed.

This tuning allows them to sound much less congested than many average headphones, yet the BL-05 might not be as warm-toned as them.

Despite this, the BLON BL-05 is far from sounding thin or lacking fullness over their mids and vocals.

Higher mids are typically crisp with spicy female vocals and upper mid peaks that will be welcomed by many listeners but it is fair to note that they can also turn into harsh peaks with intense notes or shouty vocals.

An advanced custom-EQ can finely retune the midrange of the BLON BL-05, with superb results over male vocals and deep mid notes.

This path will offer a much cleaner sound and more alive low-pitched vocals – also, if done correctly, higher mids will not become harsher.

Highs & Treble

Highs and treble on the BLON BL-05 is balanced towards a bright signature that will fulfill most listener’s needs.

On the other hand, the upper end might be more rolled-off than most particularly-bright in-ear monitors which can make them sound less-open than those – still, they will offer a much more open sound than average headphones.

Regarding detail, the BL-05 does a fairly-decent job retrieving it but will not earn any top awards on this area.

Fatiguing peaks such as sibilance and piercing highs were mostly mediumly-tolerable and mostly present on songs prone to them.

With an EQ, highs on the BLON BL-05 can be pushed into a way brighter and more spacious sound with, also, additional detail.

Sound Leak

The sound leaking out of the BLON BL-05 will be hearable on very quiet situations, yet their leakage remains less audible than most average headphones.

During every day activities or normally noisy environments, the sound leaking levels of the BL05 will be irrelevant.

Sound Isolation

The sound isolation provided by the BLON BL-05 is less efficient than many normal headphones.

This model will not provide a strong isolation at low-volume settings but can become much more efficient by cranking up the potentiometer of your source.

Comfort

The BLON BL-05 has a very thin profile and a superbly rounded form factor that combined with a small footprint.

All these features grant a phenomenally comfortable fit and a super stable placement inside the ears.

In addition to this, this earphones sit flush with the ears, allowing them to be used under helmets.

Response to Equalization

The response to EQ of the BLON BL05 showed a remarkable retuning potential over mids, vocals and highs but did not performed as efficiently over sub-bass frequencies.

The BLON BL-05 is an excellent budget earphone with a much cleaner sound than other single dynamic driver models at this price range and a superb refined bass performance that makes it a solid alternative for audio enthusiasts on a tight budget.

We recommend, though, to stretch the budget a bit and opt for the combo/promo that includes the much better upgraded cable.
