The CVJ CSN features a 6-driver configuration per earpiece with an hybrid distribution of a 10mm dynamic driver and 5 balanced armatures. In addition to this, the brand has packed double neodymium magnets (specifically, very powerful N52 magnets)

You might see it being promoted as 12-driver; this corresponds to the sum of the drivers inside both earpieces – a notorious marketing technique that is very frequent in the ChiFi world and that has been a typical strategy done by KZ.

The CVJ CSN comes inside a wooden box (rarely seen on earphones at this price point) and comes bundled with 3 pair of eartips + a soft pouch (also the detachable cable in included)

Cable

The cable of the CVJ CSN has a bi-pin 0.75mm connector type and a 3.5mm mini stereo. The bi-pin connectors have an angled design and a plastic build; plastic is the same material used for it’s inline mic and remote while the cable bifurcation section and 3.5mm plug are made of metal.

The inline remote/mic comes with a handy 3-button design that, consequently, offers independent buttons to control volume up and volume down.

The build of the cable is acceptable but far from impressive, with a braided design and bit thin girth – as a point of reference, the following models have similar (more or less) cable quality:

Bass & Sub Bass

The CVJ CSN offers a nicely tuned bass that sounds well-distributed across the entire bass-range with no unbalanced feel neither towards punch nor depth.

As a matter of fact, the lower frequencies coming from this multi-driver earphones provide as much mid-bass punch as needed to sound fun and full but never get bloated nor boomy.

In addition to this, it’s sub-bass brings to the sound signature the right amount of depth to match nearly any genre, yet not risking to devour the rest of the sound frequencies, allowing space to both mids and highs.

With an EQ, sub-bass can be pushed into a crazy deep response while punch will get equally as intense but things will, also, turn less refined (obviously)

Through our extreme basshead tests, the CVJ CSN handled up to 40% of our testing amp, reaching a mild basshead rumble and impact but will not be able to become a Top basshead model.

Mids & Vocals

The CVJ CSN has fairly friendly male vocals that, yet, are not distant nor overly congested at any given moment.

Expect lower-pitched vocals to get a less aggressive presentation than headphones that have a midrange-forward tuning. On the other hand, they do not risk to sound busy.

Their higher midrange offers clean and crisp performance with alive female vocals.

Harshness and peaks in the mid frequencies can get a bit hot with shouty vocals or very intense spikes, still we did not find them to be extremely annoying (if you are a listener to medium tolerance to this)

An EQ can be applied to retune their midrange with very good results but we would rate this model EQ response to offer a fine retuning more than a drastic retuning.

Highs & Treble

The CVJ CSN highs exhibit a bright personality that is not overcooked, being able to provide an open and detailed sound without getting clinical.

Their highs tuning will be well-adapted to listeners who look for brightness and non-muddy sound but are not willing to get annoyingly sharp listening sessions.

It is worth noting, that despite not being as piercing nor disturbing as other earphones with a bright sound signature, the CVJ CSN will still not be free of sibilance or piercing peaks – overall, we found them to offer an acceptable brightness/fatiguing balance (for listeners with tolerance to piercing and sibilant peaks, sensitive listeners might not think the same)

A lot of extra brightness and detail can be added with a custom EQ but things will start to become too fatiguing. The opposite EQ path can be taken, aiming to soften these peaks and the CVJ will respond fairly well but it will need advanced knowledge with custom equalization to achieve a balanced sound without loosing their good OTB performance.

Sound Leak

The sound leaking out of the CVJ CSN is about average and similar to most normal earphones.

This makes them an earphone that will be hearable when you crank up the volume, but only on quiet environments. When used in normally noisy situations, the CVJ CSN will not disturb nearby people.

Sound Isolation

The sound isolation provided by the CVJ CSN is much stronger than most average earphones, providing efficient isolation even without music playing through them.

By having this kind of starting point, the CVJ can easily reach absolute isolation from the environment by simply dialing up the volume of your listening sessions.

Comfort

The earpieces have a similar design and form factor to many recent ChiFi models, like the:

This means, that the CVJ CSN is inline with these model regarding fit and comfort; and, indeed, the smooth curves and custom-IEM styled design ensures long lasting listening sessions without any discomfort or in-ear pain.

It is nice finally seeing a budget-model that includes a 3-button remote with dedicated volume buttons.

Despite seeming a trivial feature, having volume buttons inline in the cable adds up a great ease of use when on-the-go or while daily commuting.

This is a type of remote that is rarely seen on budget (and non-budget) headphones as brands tend to bundle a cable with remotes that have just 1 button.
