DZAT DR-25
| Balanced Armature | 8mm Dynamic Driver |
? DZAT DR-25, the newest ultra-affordable, hybrid earphone from the brand.
The DZAT DR-25 features a dual driver configuration with one balanced armature and a 8mm dynamic driver.
The housings have a classic bullet-like form factor and are made of plastic, which results in a very light weighted overall unit. The back section of the earpieces have a color accent in a form of a ring and a back plate with a grid design.
The cable of the DZAT DR-25 has a design and build that reminded us to the cable of Sony headphones, like the Sony MDR-1A.
Different than many earphones on the market, the DZAT DR-25 is sold either with a 3.5mm plug or with a modern USB Type-C connector – if the 3.5mm model is bought, the plug will be L-shaped.
Either getting the 3.5mm or the USB type-C model, both will come with an inline microphone and remote with a single button.
It has been quite a while since we reviewed a DZAT earphone. In the past, the brand has released some outstanding bang for buck models such as the DZAT DF-10 but has also released deceptive models like the DZAT DT-05; we will see how the DZAT DR-25 ultra-budget hybrid model performs.
You can buy the DZAT DR-25 in:
- DZAT DR-25 black/red with 3.5mm plug
- DZAT DR-25 black/red with USB type-C plug
- DZAT DR-25 green with 3.5mm plug
- DZAT DR-25 green with USB type-C plug

A
Accessories & Packaging
The DZAT DR-25 unboxing results in a soft pouch, a 3 pair of eartips – not a huge amount of accessories here but it is fair to highlight that the pouch is quite nice.
The packaging of the DR-25 is a rectangular box with a fairly generous size in comparison to the size of the unit itself.

B
Bass & Sub Bass
The DZAT DR-25 has punchy and deep bass with as much energy as needed for fun listening sessions.
There are earphones with a very bassy profile that showed a more intense response than the DZAT DR-25, though.
Expect mid-bass that can get loose and overstep it’s sound signature.
Applying an EQ, massive sub-bass can be obtained but mid-bass will not be as enhanced as it’s deepest end.
Putting the DZAT DR-25 through out our extreme basshead test, the unit handled up to 30% of a FiiO A5 maximum’s power with an insane sub-bass deepening and reaching, even, mild basshead rumble and impact. Nonetheless, this is not a earphone that can reach the basshead potential of the top performers in our Best Basshead Earphones Chart.

M
Mids & Vocals
Right out of the box, the mids of the DZAT DR-25 sound awkward, with a somewhat boxy and bloated sound and relaxed but non-distant male vocals.
Moreover, their mid-midrange and upper midrange is emphasized but not frequently harsh, showing a uncommon bump in the mid to upper mids.
Overall, this atypical sound tuning of the DZAT makes their midrange strange but not necessarily disturbing to listeners open to “awkward” tuning.
Because of this, we recommend to be aware of the mids personality of DZAT before pulling the trigger, yet, for the money that they cost they can be the “strange” member of your collection.
The uneven midrange distribution will be a nightmare to any users trying to retune it with an EQ.
Even expert EQ users will have a hard time doing so and truly we found that the mids tended to show a strong deterioration than improvement.

H
Highs & Treble
The DZAT DR-25 highs have the same spikes on the upper midrange that makes their mids sound “atypical” get over their highs personality.
Consequently, resulting in a strange highs and treble that is kind of bright but also congested and showing traces of detail but without any definition at all.
Absolutely opposite to it’s midrange response to EQ, the highs and treble show an extreme makeover and massive improvement in brightness, detail and definition, showing also a much more open sound.
5.5/10
SL
Sound Leak
The sound leaking out is noticeable lower than on many normal earphones, which will make them usable at any everyday situation.

SI
Sound Isolation
The sound isolation provided by the DZAT DR-25 is average, users will nearly always get some perception and awareness of their environment – unless a very high volume setting is used.

Comfort
The standard bullet form factor and ultra light weight result in an outstanding comfort independently of anyone’s ears size.
Moreover, the nozzles of the DR-25 are angled, ensuring a better placement in the ear canals.

EQ
Response to Equalization
The EQ response score of the DZAT DR-25 got “rescued” by the impressive response over their highs and treble as their midrange response to EQ was truly shameful.

Summary
✅ Extremely light weighted
✅ Very comfortable
✅ Nice looks
✅ Good cable at this price range
✅ Very comfortable
❌ Strange sound tuning
The DZAT DR-25 can be defined as the uncoordinated uncle of the party; it might be goofy but curious to some and embarrassing and inconvenient to orders.
Listeners looking for a "awkward" sound experience can experiment with the DZAT DR-25 but it will be too rare for normal listening sessions.
