A

ACCESSORIES & PACKAGING
gramophone-256604.5/5

The FANTECH MAXFIT81 Vibe Edition comes inside a simple packaging that includes:

• Braided USB-C cable
• Keycap/switch puller
• 24 extra keycaps

D

DESIGN
gramophone-256604.25/5

The FANTECH MAXFIT81 Vibe Edition has a 75% layout with 80 keys and a knob; one of the type of layouts and designs that we find to be the more functional yet space-saving.

The case has a naturally inclined design to optimize the ergonomics while the 2-step adjustable feet provide 3 different height/tilting angles to adapt to each user.

Our specific model has a black colored case with a 3-colored keycaps set with black, grey and yellow combinations.

The FANTECH MAXFIT81 has a small 1 inch screen on the right upper corner, right above the knob.

As this is a keyboard that includes a display, the brand opted to leave out any status LED lighting.

DC

DISPLAY SCREEN
gramophone-256604.5/5

The screen has nearly the same size of the displays seen on the Keydous NJ98 and EPOMAKER TH80-X but unlike these 2, the one of the FANTECH MAXFIT81 is neither an IPS, LCD nor multicolored RGB screen – according to the manufacturer this is a dual-color (blue/black) OLED screen.

Despite not having the fancy RGB color display tech, the screen of the FANTECH MAXFIT81 Vibe Edition is brighter and easier to read than on the Keydous and EPOMAKER models.

Moreover, the screen shows useful information such as:

• Date
• Time
• Battery status with a dynamic icon with 5 bars and 3-digit
• Connectivity mode info
• Caps lock
• CPU thermals
• CPU usage in %
• Storage/Disk space info
• RAM info and usage
• RGB Backlight control

The live hardware info and thermals (CPU, Disk, RAM) is a feature that we have always criticized as a useful missing function on nearly every other keyboard with display that we have reviewed – it is nice seeing that this budget-friendly keyboard includes these features. Unfortunately, though, we were unable to get thermals detected.

Also, the displays supports animated GIFs with a simple design.

Another theoretical advantage of this less-fancy colored screen is that we are guessing that it requires and consumes less power, thus having a lower drainage effect over the battery runtime than keyboards with RGB LCD, IPS screens.

CONSTRUCTION & BUILD
gramophone-256604.25/5

The FANTECH MAXFIT81 Vibe Edition has a gasket design and a multi-dampening layering that includes a case foam, PCB dampener, plate foam and a FR4 plate.

The case is made of ABS plastic with a thicker amount of material used for the top case and a thinner one for the bottom case.

The knob has a solid metal construction and offers a smooth infinite rotation with tactile feedback per step but no audible clicky noises – the knob has also a button press function (pre-defined as Mute)

Neither the switches, stabilizer, knob nor keycaps showed any signs of wobbliness nor rattling while shaking the keyboard.

KC

KEYCAPS
gramophone-256604.5/5

The keycaps included with the FANTECH MAXFIT81 Vibe Edition are thick PBT dye-sub, which ensures a better resistance to oily and fading degradation.

The keycap’s surface has a smooth texture with a very fine grain that is gentle to the touch, while the Cherry profile combines well with the angled case.

The fonts of the keycaps are large and easy to see thanks to the contrast of the yellow colored fonts over a main black keycap body.

If being picky, we could say that we do not specifically love the fonts used for some keys like Shift, Backspace, Enter, Ctrl, Alt, Fn, etc. – but this is a subjective opinion.

SW

SWITCHES
gramophone-25660
5/5

The FANTECH MAXFIT81 Vibe Edition has a hot-swappable south-facing board with Kailh sockets compatible with 3/5-pin switches (MX/Kailh switches)

This keyboard can be purchased with 5 different switches (some might not be available, depending on the marketplace that use to buy it):

• Gateron Pro V2 Yellow – linear
• Gateron Pro V2 Blue – clicky
• Gateron Pro V2 Brown – tactile
• Maxfit Milky Brown – tactile
• Maxfit Milky Red – linear

All the switches options cover the main types including linears, clicky and tactile varieties and offering some vastly popular Gateron models.

Our unit came pre-assembled with their own-branded Maxfit Milky Brown switches; these switches presented a defined tactile bump that was much more evident than what you can expect from the tactility of Cherry MX Browns.

CON

CONNECTIVITY
gramophone-256604.75/5

The keyboard offers a 3-mode connectivity that enables it to be used either wired or wirelessly.

The wired system works through a detachable USB-C cable while the wireless connection is accessible through Bluetooth 5.0 or with the 2.4G wireless dongle (included)

All connection modes were reliable with no noticeable delay nor hiccups.

C&R

CUSTOMIZATION & REPROGRAMMING
gramophone-256604.5/5

The keyboard accepts full per key macro and reprogramming even the rotation of the knob and press can be reprogrammed but there is no support for per key light customization.

On the other hand, the on-board memory will save any custom settings without needing to run the software to conserve them.

P&E

PERFORMANCE & USE

TYPING
4.5/5

With all main switches types offered, this keyboard can adapt to the typing feel of most users while the optimized 75% layout including the knob will be well appreciated for typing and general use.

GAMING
4.5/5

The FANTECH MAXFIT81 is well-featured to comply with the needs of gamers, including:

• NKRO anti-ghosting
• Wired and wireless 2.4G
• RGB
• Programmable
• Media knob
• Hot swappable
• 1000Hz polling rate

If your main use will be gaming, we would not recommend our specific variant of the FANTECH MAXFIT81, as a tactile switch might not be the ideal companion for gaming – we would suggest that you get it with linear switches.

OFFICE
4.5/5

Having all main navigation keys and arrows plus the entire F number row; users looking for a keyboard for general purpose office work can get a good companion with the MAXFIT81.

TABLET/MOBILE
4.75/5

Being equipped with Bluetooth wireless connection, a more compact 75% form factor and a substantially light-weight for a keyboard with an internal battery; this FANTECH keyboard can fulfill the needs of mobile and tablet users looking for a better typing experience.

L

LIGHTING
gramophone-256604/5

Compared side by side with other backlit keyboard, the FANTECH MAXFIT81 Vibe Edition might not offer as much brightness but the south-facing LED do a good job optimizing the visibility of the RGB lights and effects.

Through software you will have full access to the lighting customization, colors and styles while also providing more than 20 light presets to choose from.

An odd detail that we saw was that the F6 and F7 lights are inverted on the board and are north-facing instead of following the same south-facing design of the whole board; we are not sure what was the intention of the brand behind this but we found it fair to highlight this finding.

S

SOUND
gramophone-256604.25/5

The FANTECH MAXFIT81 Vibe Edition variant that we are reviewing is equipped with brown switches.

With these switches, the keyboard presented a sound profile that could be defined as an hybrid between poppy/thocky with a quieter loudness than other brown switches.

On top of that, the unit did not show issues with resonance, echo nor any hollow sounding effects.

In general, the stabilizers of the keyboard presented good lubrification and no rattling, with the exception of the spacebar that did show some rattling when bottoming.

B

BATTERY
gramophone-256604/5

The FANTECH MAXFIT81 has a 4000mAh internal battery to provide all the power needed to run the keyboard in wireless modes.

The estimated runtime on a single charge is up to 70 hours when the RGB light are fully off and 15 hours when turned on.
