Design

This HYCHIKA Compact Cordless Screw Driver conserves the tri-colored design pattern seen on nearly all power tools from the brand (except a few), which makes it a good match to users building an ecosystem around Hychika tools.

Along the shell you will find a large trigger (red color), a 3-position switch to set the unit in lock/forward/reverse and a top red button that serves to switch from the angled to the straight body mode.

Regarding this 2-“body modes”, the screwdriver can be used as a more standard angled screwdriver (pistol grip alike form factor) or “transformed” on-the-fly into a fully straight screwdriver. This gives the Hychika a significant advantage in adaptability and versatility over classic fixed-format screwdrivers.

On the front, near the chuck you will find a small LED light that emits acceptable illumination over the working spot.

To charge the unit you can connect the included cable to the bottom bi-pin connector, a small LED near the bottom grip area will turn from red to green to inform when the battery is fully charged.

Construction & Build

The exterior of the screwdriver is made entirely of plastic as most modern power tools but the plastics in this model feel less sturdy than on most other tools from Hychika reviewed so far – the only metal part is the magnetic chuck.

Despite this, the black sections across the shell of the screwdriver have a textured and highly rubberized finish; doing an excellent job to keep things slippery-free.

To feed the screwdriver, the company has equipped a 2A 3.6V rechargeable battery inside the grip section of the tool; but this is not removable nor user-replaceable.

There is another very similar screwdriver from the brand that, at least from photos, seems to be more rugged with a metal front, removable battery and even including a hard case.

Performance

We did appreciate the fact that the chuck is made of metal and is magnetized; which allowed the team to perform the tests with blazing fast bit switching and never falling off nor detaching on their own.

Regarding pure raw power (6Nm) and driving capabilities, the HYCHIKA Compact Cordless Screw Driver exhibited an internal motor that was more powerful than what we were expecting from such a cheap-priced power tool.

On the other hand, the power tool did not offer any control over the trigger and power/speed as the trigger acts simply as a full-power-on and power-off control feeding all the 6Nm and 180rpm – there are no selectable power settings along the unit.

In spite of these details, we found handy the dual rotational handle system and the front light that could be activated even while the trigger lock was on – therefore serving also as a torch without the chuck rotating.

Overall, the screwdriver was versatile and manageable for quick DIY adjustments around the office but we would never grab this one over a true 18V/20V screwdriver, impact driver nor drill for more serious or careful work.

Despite stating this, we did find ourselves using it much more often than we would had thought thanks to the small size and quick assembly needed to be ready for work.

Value for Money

This screwdriver is very cheaply-priced and can be bought without making any drastic investment. For the price-performance offered, the value for money is quite good but given that the price difference between the 2 models available from Hychika (both models mentioned in the BUILD section) is usually less than $5, we highly recommend to opt for the other model instead of this one.
