Design

The HYCHIKA drill has a smart design that is nearly identical in form factor and size to a Milwaukee 12V equivalent but with a more powerful 16.8V battery system.

Since the bottom base and battery are smaller and narrower than a “normal” 18V/20V drill, the driver might not have the same stability to let it sit on its base; more often than not it will fall down.

Between the variable trigger and chuck, the drill has a LED light that serves to illuminate your drill/screw working area, yet as with most other drill that do not have a ring-light design, the LED position might result in some cast shadows coming from the protruding chuck and drill bits.

Another LED light that you will notice is a green colored 3-step one on the left case section near the main front LED light, this green light informs that battery charge status as the battery pack does not have built-in light indicator as the standard 18V/20V powerpacks from the brand.

Near to the speed controllable trigger there is also a forward/reverse switch, while the top case area sports a 2-speed switch to choose between gear 1 and gear 2.

Aesthetically, this HYCHIKA Cordless Drill Driver Kit follows the same green, red and black color theme from the brand, which seamlessly matches the tool kit of any user building a powertool ecosystem with HYCHIKA products.

With a weight of 3lbs, this drill/driver is not only lighter on paper but on daily use, the unit feels way more comfortable, less fatiguing and easier to manage than flagship, chunky and heavy drills and impact drivers.

Construction & Build

We were surprised to find that the chuck of this HYCHIKA Cordless Drill Driver Kit was actually made of metal and not plastic as many mid and entry-level Dewalt drills.

Another important “upgrade” from many other Hychika powertools, is the use of a brushless motor inside this tiny drill, which can boast a massive torque of 45nm and is packed with forward/reverse control.

Moreover, this budget drill includes 2 speed gears (0-400rpm and 0-1500rpm) and 23 different torque settings, in addition to a drill dedicated setting.

On top of that, the drill was unexpectedly well-built and rugged with plastics and rubberized sections that did not feel far from most Makita, Milwaukee and Dewalt drills and drivers.

The more compact design made the brand opt for a different power pack system (16.8V 1.5Ah) than the standard 18V/20V seen on all the rest of their battery powered lineup; therefore, this drill is not inter-compatible with the main battery system from the brand.

Performance

At 45nm of force, this budget HYCHIKA drill driver has practically twice the power of the 20V DeWalt DCD795; in fact, you can feel the torque of the little guy right away. Seeing that the drill has a variable speed control switch/trigger was another surprise feature that is essential for better drilling and screwing control and operation.

Part of the tests of the unit were the assembly of an elliptical machine, using the device as a driver; even adjusting hefty nuts intended for core support of the elliptical were tightened as much as they could ever had been even with an impact driver.

At the same time, the vast 23 adjustments of driving power allowed us to screw in more delicate parts with lower powered settings in the chuck to avoid over tightening or even damaging the elliptical machine, screw and thread. This was also complemented by the fact that the trigger is adjustable and is not limited to simple On/Off activation.

Moreover, the device was thoroughly tested with 2×4″ woods and endless wood screws reaching up to 5x100mm and the budget-drill handled them without issues.

Following this, we proceeded to do some drilling with wood and metal bits on several different surfaces and, once again, the drill/driver never was short of power nor showing signs of a motor struggling to complete the tests.

In fact, the Hychika drill was so powerful that it even broke 2 drill bits by the torque force when using the power adjusted to 23 in the “power gear”. Fair to note, though, that the motor maxes out at 1500 rpm, which might not challenge pro-level drills.

Seeing all the power that the brushless motor is capable of bringing to the table we would had wished that the chuck was limited to max. 10mm bits.

To be honest, after long time using the HYCHIKA Cordless Drill Driver Kit, we found ourselves grabbing it much more often for everyday tasks than the rest of our 20V mid-tier and also 20V top-tier drills and drivers from DeWalt and Milwaukee.

Of course, premium features like internal brake and anti-kickback systems are not included with this budget drill, yet the chuck was nearly perfectly aligned with no signs of the notorious chuck wobble present in most DeWalt drills and impact drivers.

The impressive power, bundled accessories and compact, portable design at such a low MSRP makes this HYCHIKA Cordless Drill Driver Kit a superb bang for buck.
