The HYCHIKA Jig Saw comes in a cardboard packaging with minimal protection inside; our specific machine was beaten up by the courier services but the machine was, still in decent condition besides the ruler guide that was bent.

Design

The HYCHIKA Jig Saw has a typical classic jig saw form factor with a large grip on the top and a press and hold trigger.

On the top left of the trigger, you will find a lock-on button but this is not on both sides of the top handle so lefties might not be covered.

On the top edge, a rotating encoder is used to set the variable speed of the motor as the trigger itself is not variable but fixed.

The bottom left has a lever to select the orbital option between modes 1 to 4 while on the front mid-section you will see a smaller red button, this serves to power on the laser guide that is built-in inside the case of the machine.

The front of the jig saw has a protective transparent cover with a flip design to easily access the chuck and blades.

When buying the jig saw you have to be aware of selecting the specific model that you prefer, for example, our jig saw lacks some elements of the other jig saw variant from the brand, like: the plastic insert for smoother sliding, knobs for the installation of the guide, storage for the blades, blow selector and quick adjustment of the base plate angle.

Further differences include the button designs and overall machine’s shell/case.

Construction & Build

Both jig saws from Hychika offer variable speeds between the exact same 800-3000rpm but the one that we have offers 7 steps (1 more than the other one)

Inside, the tool is equipped with a hefty 800W copper motor (not brushless, though) and capabilities for bevel cutting (45 degrees in both directions) and 4 different orbital settings.

As a general feel, the tool has a nice confident weight to it that makes it seem durable and rugged.

You will find that the external case is made of plastic (like every other modern power tool) but you will also get metal parts like the base plate and lock system for the guide ruler addon.

The chuck is also made of metal (of course) and has been designed with a quick, tool-free, twist system to install and replace the blades.

Inside, the HYCHIKA Cordless Reciprocating Saw is powered by a 18V brushless motor that is capable of offering up to 2800 SPM of no-load speed.

The HYCHIKA saw might have a friendly price but the brand has not cheaped out in the construction of the main elements and details of the tool. In fact, you will find that sections like the chuck ring, base plate and blade shield are fully made of metal.

Inline with modern power tools, the HYCHIKA Cordless Reciprocating Saw has an external case made mostly of plastic but the device seems to use, more or less, similar level of quality for their plastics as what we can feel by grabbing our Milwaukee FUEL and Dewalt XR power tools.

Performance

In the dozens of power tools that we have reviewed from Hychika, we usually found that their motors offer much more power than you would expect for the asking prices; the HYCHIKA Jig Saw is no exception as in our tests the tool was able to provide substantially more torque and overall power than what we were able to get from a Milwaukee FUEL (battery powered) – if you set the machine to max. you will feel the beefy torque output by this Hychika jig saw.

In fact, while performing cuts for the tests and review of the jig saw we welcomed the easier and smoother cutting of bigger wood pieces that the Milwaukee tended to struggle to handle and also made the Milwaukee to overheat after some time using it; instead the Hychika completed the task without showing signs of struggling nor getting anyway as hot as the Milwaukee.

We tested the jig saw with wood, metal, plastic and aluminum cuts of all sort of the sizes and the Hychika always responded quite well; if any, we would recommend to pair the machine with quality blades on top of the basic ones bundled for free, as this jig saw has a lot of juice to offer.

Another feature that we welcomed was the built-in laser guide (for some dumb reason mainstream brands do not include this) which was a handy extra feature to aid in the completion of better straight cuts with less guesswork.

On the other hand, we did not like the fact that unscrewing with a hex key was needed to set the bevel angles of the base plate and also to fix and adjust the metal ruler guide; this was a workflow killer and kind of obnoxious.

Value for Money

It is crazy how cheap-priced the HYCHIKA Jig Saw is, considering the power output showed during the tests. Still, we recommend the other variant from Hychika and not the one that we own as some of the lacking features on our model can make substantially inferior to the other one.
