Despite being a watch, the KOSPET Hope 4G is also a highly packed smartphone with a full Android OS.

This little device holds inside more RAM, ROM and CPU power than many smartphones – carrying a whopping 32GB of ROM, 3GB of RAM LPDDR3 memory (667Mhz frequency) and a quad-core CPU (MTK6739)

The MTK6739 is a quad-core 64-bit, ARM Cortex-A53 CPU that can run at 1.5GHZ, yet KOSPET lists the MTK6739 being clocked at 1.25GHZ to 1.3GHZ – this might be a decision made by the brand to underclock the CPU to extend battery life or might simply be a typography error by KOSPET.

The Mediatek MTK6739 holds a IMG GE8100 GPU that can operate at 570MHz and support up to a resolution of 1440×720.

Hats off for KOSPET for putting this beastly strong CPU, RAM and ROM combination at this ultra-affordable price.

The KOSPET Hope 4G SmartWatch Phone has a standard-styled rounded watch form factor, style is inline with the:

The overall looks are clean and aesthetically pleasing. The CNC engraved body and ceramic details make it a watch that can be worn in any situation ranging from sports up to formal business conferences.

On the bottom plate of the main unit you will find the heart rate sensor and the nano SIM slot under a cover that pops out.

The bundled wristband is fully made of silicone but can be replaced with any other compatible strap like leather, metal, leatherette, etc – the included silicone strap measures 98mmx24mm (short end) and 125x24mm (long end)

Operation & Control

The KOSPET Hope 4G SmartWatch Phone has 2 dedicated buttons and a touch sensitive screen with gestures and multi-touch compatibility.

Having available both physical and touch controls makes the watch extremely easy to operate. These dual control system, also, allows it to be versatile and usable on different weather conditions.

The operating system running is Android (like most modern smartphones) and most intuitive controls and gestures are the same on the KOSPET Hope 4G, like:

• Swipe up or down to scroll or navigate menus
• Swipe left to confirm
• Swipe right to go back
• On main screen/watch-dial screen: Swiping right opens the notifications
• Swipe down for quick access settings (access to WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G, brightness, Mute/unmute, battery left, GPS, task cleaner, music control, weather forecast)
• Swipe up for health stats, steps, km, Kcal
• Tap the top button to turn on or off the screen
• Press and hold the top button to turn on or off the device
• Tap the lower button to go back

The KOSPET Hope 4G is equipped with “raise hand to wake up” functionality – this feature can be turned on or off at will.

This function comes handy by not having to press any button to turn on the screen – very common feature of smartwatches and smartbands. In fact, the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is one of the most famous smartbands that has this feature and also the additional “lower hand to turn off screen” – the last one does not seem to be available on the KOSPET Hope 4G.

Battery Life

The KOSPET Hope 4G SmartWatch Phone is equipped with a 620 mAh lithium ion polymer battery – this is nearly 6 times more battery power than the Xiaomi Mi Band 3.

The brand claims that the KOSPET Hope 4G can provide 5 days of standby time battery life on a single charge.

The usage battery life is not stated by the brand but we were able to easily get a day and a half of battery life on a single charge paired to a smartphone (Bluetooth On) – with light use and turning the device off during the night or 18+hours of continuous light use. This is inline with watches like the Apple Watch Series 4.

Of course, as expected with any device, turning on 4G data, WiFi and GPS will deplete the battery much faster.

Charging: The KOSPET Hope 4G SmartWatch Phone charges with a magnetically attaching cable (included).

The magnets on the cable attach to the back face of the watch, where the 2 charging pin-dots are placed – this is a charging cable system very similar to the DT NO.1 F13 and different to the Xiaomi Mi Band 3.

The magnets attach strongly but we prefer to sit the watch sideways with the cable end pointing up, to avoid any possible cable disconnection.

The KOSPET Hope 4G SmartWatch Phone is extremely rugged and durable, with strong construction materials.

The bezels are made of ceramic while the body of the device is constructed with high-pressured molten metal.

The device has no flimsy nor cheap-feeling details, which results in looks and build that seems unimaginable at this price range.

Adding to their durability, the KOSPET Hope 4G SmartWatch Phone has an IP67 waterproof rating to withstand normal daily activities without having to worry about the watch.

Google Play Store was enabled on the latest firmware updates, unleashing their whole apps to be installed on the watch, having access to the Play Store and all of it’s apps is an outstanding resource.

We tested out the heart rate sensor of the KOSPET Hope 4G, resulting in accurate bpm readings that corresponded to the measurement of external chest straps and the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 readings – with a marginal difference of +/-1 to 2 bpm.

Screen

The KOSPET Hope 4G SmartWatch Phone has a large AMOLED screen with a diagonal size of 1.39 inches.

The resolution of the screen is 400×400, which is even more than the Apple Watch 4.

The AMOLED screen of the KOSPET is gorgeous with vibrant colors, full viewing angles with no distortion and high contrast.

The screen is bright and can be seen in any lighting condition – much as with any modern smartphone.

The screen is rounded and takes full advantage of the area of the dial, yet there is an amazing hidden tip: pressing and holding the screen-off/power-off button will take you to the Power Off, Reboot, Power Save and Recent Task shortcut screen but the most important of all, there is a white circle on the top of this screen, if you tap it, it will become a semi-full circle with a white square inside; this let’s you force your applications to show in “full-screen” covering the whole rounded screen area or to “box them” in a square inside the screen to fully fit the app in the display – this is highly handy as some apps designed for smartphones will get their buttons, menus, etc out of range if used on “full-screen” mode

Watch Dials:

At the time of the publication of this KOSPET Hope 4G review, the smartwatch offers 144 different dials that can be downloaded and installed on the device.

We tested their Bluetooth connection paired with a smartphone and with every type of Bluetooth headphones. The results showed no hiccups at any given time nor any sound quality loss.

Testing their Dual 4G/LTE connection and WiFi, both resulted in stable signals with good reach and no unexpected disconnections.

As the device includes a dual satellite positioning system with GPS and Glonass, we decided to see how it performed. The dual system answered with quick, accurate localization and tracking while travelling, running and using it as a GPS navigation system.

The KOSPET Hope 4G is not a shy smartwatch, having a 49mm dial and a thickness of 17.5mm but it is neither ludicrously large – we would say that it is a masculine watch.

Despite the robust construction and manly size, the watch weights only 70gr.

The soft and wide silicone strap adds nice support and stability to the body of the watch and enables a comfortable all-day experience.

App

Being a full-fledged smartphone, the KOSPET Hope 4G SmartWatch Phone can fully work as a standalone device without depending on any external device nor app.

Nonetheless, to pair it to a smartphone, receiving notifications from the paired device and wirelessly send files between both, it is needed to install the Wiiwatch2 app.

The Wiiwatch2 app can record health data (steps, BPM, Kcal, km), can be used to download additional watch faces/dials (this can also be done from the watch without the app).

Additional options available on the Wiiwatch2 app are: step count, lookup device, music control, send file, raise hand to wake up, silent mode, app notifications, software updates and will also tell you the battery charge remaining.

Sitting in between the 2 physical buttons there is another knob-like piece, this is the camera of the KOSPET Hope 4G.

Behind the lens there is an 8 megapixel (5MP interpolated) sensor which seamlessly combines with a very wide angled lens.

With the camera of the KOSPET Hope 4G you can capture 8MP photographs and 720p videos with audio.

Of course, this is not a professional DSLR, mirrorless full-frame camera nor a multi-lens device and will not offer pin-point sharp images but to have an 8 megapixel camera packed in your wrist is quite impressive.

Speaker

The KOSPET Hope has a built-in speaker that enables to take phone calls, see videos with audio, get GPS audio indications or listen to music without any headphones.

Moreover, as it is a full-fledged smartphone running an Android OS and having a Bluetooth chip, the KOSPET Hope can pair with any Bluetooth headphone to listen to music, audio, video and take calls from the wireless headphone.

The built-in speaker of the watch will not provide a Hi-Fi experience but it does well it’s job as a speaker for phone calls, occasional music listening, videos watching, GPS navigation, voice commands, etc.

We tried the device with a FLAC high-quality lossless music track and the KOSPET Hope 4G played it perfectly – impressive that this tiny device was able to reproduce FLAC audio files.
