Unlike with the LP4, the LaserPecker LP5 includes by default a cutting plate (even if you buy the barebones LaserPecker LP5 Basic) but this can be considered as a freebie addon as it is kind of small and does not cover the full working area of the machine.

When buying your LaserPecker LP5 you will be given the option to choose among 3 pre-configured bundles:

• LaserPecker LP5 Basic Bundle
• LaserPecker LP5 Deluxe Bundle
• LaserPecker LP5 Ultimate Bundle

All the bundles include the same accessories and freebies but the difference that set each level of bundle apart are the inclusion of the LaserPecker Rotary Extension and LaserPecker Slide Extension when purchasing the LaserPecker LP5 Deluxe Bundle and the additional LaserPecker LP5 Desktop Air Purifier if the LaserPecker Ultimate Bundle is chosen.

Other additional accessories that you can add up to your bundles are:

AS

ASSEMBLY
gramophone-256605/5

When receiving your newly bought LaserPecker LP5 you might fear that such an advanced machine would require tedious, over-complicated and long assembly steps; instead, the LaserPecker LP5 needs simply 4 screws and 2 knobs to be put in place and tightened in order to have the machine up and running.

The specific assembly steps and screws will be:

• 2 screws connecting the Electric Stand to the base of the machine
• 2 screws to connect the Shield Cover to the main head
• 2 knobs that install the main head to the Electric Stand and set the angle of the laser head

The only remaining steps will be plugging the power cable and USB cables for the Electric Stand and Shield Cover/fan.

Of course, if you bought additional accessories and/or the LaserPecker LP5 Ultimate Bundle, you will need to assemble and install the accessories and addons.

Some accessories/addons do require a bit more effort and steps to get them fully assembled (like the extension slide) but most of them come almost as pre-assembled as the main LP5 laser machine – for example the Rotary Extension, Air Purifier and also the Protective Cover Case.

On the other hand, the LaserPecker Safety Enclosure does not require assembly besides positioning the LaserPecker LP5 main unit on top and connecting the exhaust tubing to the LaserPecker Air Purifier.

D

DESIGN
gramophone-256604.75/5

Being part of the LP series, the new LaserPecker LP5 inherits the same design system and overall style of the older siblings, with a clean and elegant unibody and a portable core nature.

The LaserPecker LP5 and all the LP series apply a different approach to the typical laser engraver standards found on most other machines on the market with a compact, self-contained design in a small but powerful product that has nearly 10 times less the footprint of equally powerful laser engravers/cutters.

The structural basis for the mechanical operation works a round a laser head that is only physically moved up/down over the z-axis for focusing and no other head movement is needed to laser engrave/cut. To complete engraving/cutting tasks, the LP5 moves the laser beams through a smart internal design by benefiting from smaller moving pieces like mirrors; as a result of this, the laser machine has less mechanical strain and is capable of offering speeds, acceleration and working times that are simply unreachable by any other laser machine with a “standard” mechanical design with the laser head travelling through 3 axis.

If you happen to own the previous model, you will notice that the size of the LaserPecker LP5 vs LaserPecker LP4 is noticeably larger, yet somehow the brand has been able to empower the machine in every sense but also to reduce the weight of the unit when compared with the LP4.

Another clear design difference is that the LaserPecker LP5 does not include a display touch screen as the LP4 did. The screen on the LP4 was a nice embellishing detail but, honestly, it did not offer too many functions nor controls; so, we cannot say that we necessarily find it like a feature that is lacking on the LP5 in comparison with the LP4.

You might have noticed, also, that the new shield cover of the LP5 has been totally redesigned with a mixed material of a black main body and a front translucid shield that is removable through a magnetic attaching system. This is a different approach to the 360 degree translucid shield of the LP4 and now being only the front piece magnetically attached for fast detaching and not the whole shield addon – in fact the main black shield on the LP5 has a semi-fixed installation through 2 screws that attaches it to the main head.

The approximate dimensions and weight of the LaserPecker LP5 sole unit is 6.02kg of weight and 255 x 98 x 183 mm for the laser unit alone.

Safety Enclosure:

If you are getting your LaserPecker LP5 with the LaserPecker Safety Enclosure (a choice that we highly recommend), you will gain access to a plethora of added functions and upgraded features that can ease your workflow and exponentially empower your work efficiency.

Among the most important features that we found remarkably better with the Safety Enclosure were:

• Height adjustment controls by 2 front external buttons of the safety enclosure
• New redesign for height and focusing control where the laser head remains in a fixed position and now being the base plate motorized and raising or lowering according to the setup/need – similar to what you can find on CoreXY 3D FDM printers
• Integrated Smart camera and internal chamber lighting – can be used to monitor in real-time the laser tasks and can also be used for smart automated functions like auto-batch arrangement of multiple engraving tasks on a single batch by simply arranging/setting 1 of the batch units and allowing the software+Smart camera to automatically take care of the rest of the units in the batch – the brand calls Smart Filling to this auto-batch function
• Fully enclosed working environment with front and rear doors
• Additional sensors
• Additional safety features – see more in the Safety Features section later below in the review

CONSTRUCTION & BUILD
gramophone-256605/5

In the last years, we have reviewed some machines from LaserPecker (LaserPecker LX1 Max, LaserPecker LP4) and all of them shared the same tank-alike rugged build; this new LaserPecker LP5 model inherits an equally hefty and remarkable well-constructed nature with nearly all of the machine sections and pieces being made of metal; more specifically, Aluminum alloy.

As a point of comparison, the LaserPecker LP5 has a clearly more solid build and feel than some up-tier 3D printers (Creality K1C, Creality Ender-3 V3 Plus, Creality K1 SE, Elegoo Neptune 4 Max), some flagship 3D resin printers (Elegoo Jupiter Se, Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra) and even a way more durable construction than other laser engraving competitors (IKIER K1 Pro MAX, AtomStack A40 Pro, Ortur LaserMaster OLM3, Elegoo Phecda Pro)

From the head unit, up to the main column, base plate and even the handle, you will find the exact same quality and metal material used for its construction. Even, all additional accessories are equally rugged with the same all-metal construction, like the Rotary Extension, Slide Extension, Air Purifier and Enclosure Protective Cover.

In fact, the brand new dedicated enclosure made for the LaserPecker LP5 is a massive upgrade from the all-acrylic of the LP4 sibling, being now a remarkably solid and more rich-featured enclosure accessory.

If being nitpicky, we could point out that the emergency stop button presents some wobble but this did not compromise neither its usability nor functionality – also the connecting section of the main head and removable shield cover is now made of plastic.

Safety Enclosure

The LaserPecker Safety Enclosure is well put together (8.9 kg) with a combination of aluminum, polycarbonate, ABS and using one laser-filtering/cover door with a semi-translucid finish/density, allowing to see the internal chamber of the Safety Enclosure without needing to open the door (the density of the orange-tinted laser cover is substantially darker than the one of the LaserPecker LP4 enclosure) – the 2nd back door has a fully blackout non-translucid finish.

If you are using your LaserPecker LP5 with the Safety Enclosure, we find extremely important to highlight that you should never lift the unit from the handle of the LP5 main unit as these piece is only hold together to the Safety Enclosure by 2 small screws and does not have the sufficient strength to withstand that lifting force.

OC

OPERATION & CONTROL
gramophone-256604.5/5

The LaserPecker LP5 can be used in 3 modes: wired and 2x wireless. Wired, users can fully control the laser machine through the USB-C connection and working connected with a PC and LaserPecker Design Space software; wirelessly, the LP5 can also work either through a WiFi connection or Bluetooth connection and/or in direct connection with the brand’s own mobile app.

In addition to these modes, the LaserPecker LP5 has 5 physical buttons across the whole main device which serve to control some of the functions of the machine – oddly the machine does not have a power on/off button nor switch, thus turning on or off the machine is a matter of connecting the power supply and connector.

On the top of the main head, you can find 3 buttons:

• Pause/resume
• Preview mode
• Emergency stop

In order to control the height and focus of the laser head, the main column/electric stand is equipped with 2 buttons to manually move either up or down the main head – this can also be done remotely and/or wirelessly through the PC and mobile app.

The main way to focus the laser of the LP5 is done with the aid of the shield cover, using it as a distance focusing element that physically ensures the right focusing distance when the bottom section touched your material to be engraved/cut – as the machine does not have an auto-focus system, this needs to be done manually but do not overdo it to avoid damaging the shield-cover.

On top of that, the new LaserPecker LP5 has a dual red laser that can also be used to focus the machine, which informs that the laser is in-focus when the dual red laser dots align on top of each other.

If you have bought also the LaserPecker LP5 Safety Enclosure addon accessory, then focusing and is done through the leveling of the internal bed of this addon, which will move the bed up or down in order to obtain the correct focusing for each material – the LP5 Safety Enclosure has 2 dedicated buttons for the axis movement of the bed. Another extra feature provided by the Safety Enclosure is enabling not only a better manual focusing design but also incorporating automatic focusing.

It is worth noting that unlike the LP4, the LP5 does not offer a full standalone mode but you can plug a USB driver directly to the machine with pre-configured .lbp files – you will still need to use the machine connected to the PC software to engrave these files.

While using the device you will receive audible alerts and notifications according to the status of the machine; these info are also detailed through a vertical LED strip light that will change color depending on the status of the LP5.

If audible notifications are not your thing or you prefer a more silent working style without beeping sounds, then you can completely disable them through the settings of the machine.

Safety Enclosure

If we would had to rate this same section but of the LaserPecker LP5 upgraded with the Safety Enclosure, we would probably add 1 extra point to it.

In fact, this would be 1 point more than well-earned as the LaserPecker Safety Enclosure does not only work as a “safety enhancing accessory” but also as rich-feature, upgrade boost to the control and capabilities of the laser machine.

In addition to this, the Safety Enclosure is also compatible with the Rotary Extension, Slide Extension and Smart Roller; all of them can fit inside the chamber of the Safety Enclosure and are connected to the unit through a dedicated USB-A port hidden on the bottom rear of the internal chamber.

It worth mentioning that to date, unfortunately, the LaserPecker Safety Enclosure is only compatible with the newest LaserPecker LP5 and cannot be used with older models such as the LaserPecker LP4 but the brand has informed that they will be releasing top-lid adapter that will make this Safety Enclosure also compatible with the LP4.

SAFETY FEATURES
gramophone-256605/5

The LaserPecker LP5 has both automatic and manual elements that work together as safety features to ensure the minimal possible risk of using the machine.

As an immediate manual override to halt all operations, the laser machine includes a red-colored “Emergency Stop” button that is highlighted by its popping color and well labeled.

In addition to this, the brand has implemented a new feature with a physical security USB key that connects to a dedicated Mini USB port. The machine will not work if the security key in not plugged in, responding with an error message on either the PC or mobile app. This might be something that some users could appreciate but we are not entirely convinced with the design idea, as if you happen to lose or break the USB key, your machine will remain unusable until you purchase a replacement key. Despite this, the laser machine comes bundled with 2 of these USB security keys, so you have a backup replacement.

Furthermore, the LaserPecker LP5 has a full-array of safety sensors that include:

• Audible alarms
• Shield cover/door sensors
• Shield filtering capability of 99.99%
• Exhaust fans
• Overheat sensor and auto protection

If safety features and health safety are in the list of your priorities, then you should definitely expand your LaserPecker LP5 with the LaserPecker Desktop Air Purifier and, also, the LaserPecker LP5 Safety Enclosure.

The LaserPecker Desktop Air Purifier will add a way more efficient fans exhausting of all harmful particles and it even has a dedicated multi-layer filtering system that includes: 1x cotton pre-filter (filters airborn particles), 1x H13 HEPA filter (filters 99.97% of dust, smoke and particles of up to 0.3µm), 1x activated carbon filter (filters harmful volatile organic compounds and odors), a 2nd H13 HEPA Filter layer – the 4-stage filter system is replaceable after it reached its EOL.

If you own other LaserPecker LP models or the LaserPecker LX series, this Air Purifier is fully compatible with those machines too.

The other must-have safety enhancing accessory is the LaserPecker LP5 Safety Enclosure (full compliance with EU regulations for Class 1 laser safety) which adds safety features such as: 2-position emergency button, overheat sensor and protection, dedicated port for a fire extinguisher, door halt sensor (stopping any current laser task if the door opens), much more powerful dual fans design than the fans of the default Shield Cover, full compatibility and port to connect with the LaserPecker Air Purifier and even a smart camera allowing advanced features and also remote live-view of the plate of the LP5 – this Safety Enclosure is also fully compatible with the Desktop Air Purifier.

C

CONNECTIVITY
gramophone-256604.5/5

As we mentioned in the Operation & Control sections, the LaserPecker LP5 accepts wired and wireless connectivity.

If the laser machine and your PC/mobile device are connected to the same WiFi network, then they can connect directly to each other and work seamlessly with either LaserPercker’s PC software and mobile app – you will need to configure your WiFi network in the LP5 before being able to use this mode (worth noting that the LP5 is compatible with 2.4GHz networks but not 5GHz)

To use the machine in Bluetooth mode it is needed the purchase of an additional Bluetooth dongle as it does not come as part of the default accessories of the machine (not even on its Premium Bundle variant)

The back of the main laser unit is equipped with plenty of USB ports that serve to connect (and power) all sections of the machine and most accessories by the brand such as:
• Rotary extension

• Slide extension
• Focusing column/Electric stand
• Shield Cover exhaust fans

On top of these USB-A ports, you will also find and additional USB-A port for USB drives, an USB-C port for direct PC wired connection and a Mini USB for the security key.

V

VERSATILITY
gramophone-256605/5

Until the release of this new LaserPecker LP5, the LP4 was the most versatile laser machine that you could get.

Now, with the whopping power upgrade that the brand has added on the LP5, this model becomes not only the flagship machine from LaserPecker but also the new king of versatility.

As we have mentioned before, the LP5 is larger but lighter than the LP4, thus allowing similar levels of portability and usability on tighter spaces.

Also, due to the inherited features to detach the laser head, use it handheld and tilt the angle of the laser; the LaserPecker LP5 has all the potential and adaptability that we loved about the LP4 but with more power to cover a larger array of materials and engraving/cutting capability.

As you might expect from a compact laser machine, the working area will not be as massive as what you can get with the LaserPecker LX1 MAX but, still, the LaserPecker LP5 offers a practical engraving/cutting area of 160x120mm and can be boosted to up to 300x160mm when using the additional Extension Slide addon – worth noting that for square designs, the max area is 100x100mm when the Extension Slide is not used.

Our choice for each laser mode and materials are:

20W 1064nm Fiber Laser:

P

PERFORMANCE
gramophone-256605/5

In the 10 years reviewing products, we have tested plenty of laser machines with all kinds of configurations, from 2W to 48W and including both Blue diode lasers and infrared, pulsed fiber laser; seeing that the brand has equipped a 20W Blue diode laser seems to be a smart choice as we have found 20W to be one of the best choices to provide power, versatility and still preserving a detail reveling laser spot of 0.08 x 0.1 mm.

Of course, what comes as a surprise is the additional whopping 20W fiber laser included inside the machine, a power and laser tech combination that is nearly impossible to find nowadays on commercial laser machines and that are usually sold as complementary laser modules for laser machines (like on the IKIER and AtomStack lasers that we have reviewed in the past) and which usually have a retail price that surpasses 50% of the whole LaserPecker LP5 Ultimate Bundle kit – maybe, in the near future, LaserPecker could release an upgraded 20W fiber laser head module for the LaserPecker LX1 too, who knows?

Even more, the LP5 has broken every record in the speed department with absurdly lightning fast working speeds that can reach up to 600.000mm/m (10.000mm/s), thus completing both engraving and cutting tasks in a matter of seconds – the same tasks that would take several minutes in some other laser machines.

This crazy speeds are even surpassing and becoming more than 2 times faster than the already super-fast LaserPecker LP4.

Thanks to the blazing fast speeds and the neat preview feature, working and making all the test engraving and cuttings for the review were smooth, pain-free with nearly no guess-work needed.

We also highly appreciated that the brand has included the equivalencies in mm/s for speeds under the Depth (%) parameter used by LaserPecker (only in some modes) – this makes users coming from standard laser software like LightBurn to have lower learning curve transitioning to LaserPecker’s Depth instead of Speed parameter choice.

We mentioned the brand new LaserPecker LP5 Safety Enclosure accessory, but this is not only a safety enhancing addon, it actually packs some neat features underneath that empower the LP5 even further and that we were glad to see. As the Safety Enclosure addon comes with a built-in smart camera; this cam provides real-time visualization of the lasering jobs but also includes an automatic smart identification of the material that you have placed on the plate, measuring the shape and size of it and adapting the designs to fill and fit into the material to be engraved.

On the other hand, the lack of the display screen that was found on the older sibling removes the possibility to fully use the machine in standalone mode and lacks the detailed real-time information of the lasering task being carried (laser mode, remaining time, elapsed time) – yet, most of these are shown in real-time on the LDS mobile app.

After many years of laser machines reviewed, our team has vast expertise in handling and operating these devices for correct results with and without long fiddling and adjustments required, but the LaserPecker LP5 proved to be remarkably easy to obtain optimal results with even little or no knowledge of laser engraving.

A pretentious update that we would love to see would be 2 additional dedicated modes in a more intuitive and straightforward way: Cutting mode (though, Cut layer and a Metal Cut tool are available in LaserPecker’s software) and Rust removal mode; to match up the rich features and capability of the LaserPecker LP5 in a more consumer-friendly way and adapted for laser owner newbies.

While using the LP5 we noticed a small, possibly, “bug” that sometimes informed us that the Protective Cover was not in place despite being properly in place; yet, this comes as a warning pop up that still allows you to continue with your engraving tasks if you set the machine in Free Mode – we, mostly, saw this happening when detaching and reattaching the magnetic front cover.

To help users obtain good engraving and cutting results, the software/app has presets for many materials and engraving/cutting scenarios with all parameters precompiled but, also, the company offers a spreadsheet online with further manual parameters for a larger variety of situations and materials but, being a recently released model, this online spreadsheet is shorter than what is found for older models (for sure this will be constantly updated to expand it)

LaserPecker Safety Enclosure and BATCH ENGRAVING

When testing the LaserPecker LP5 paired with the LaserPecker Safety Enclosure, we found batch engraving to be easier than ever without having to repeat the same alignment, positioning, fitting and workflow to each individual unit of the batch job and allowing the Safety Enclosure with the Smart Camera and Smart Filling feature to do its magic and automatically taking care of the tedious repetitive manual process.

Needless to say that the new focusing system offered by the Safety Enclosure and even the automatic focusing were also features that we found to be remarkably handy to speed up the tests, lasering tasks and preliminary setting up.
Of course, you need to use the brand’s laser software to make use of the smart features of the camera and Smart Filling.

ENGRAVING
gramophone-256605/5

It is worth mentioning that the maximum speed of the LaserPecker LP5 is lower as you dial up the resolution; for example, this means that you cannot achieve 600000mm/m if you set your engraving at a resolution of 8K. The smartest move is to choose the best resolution according to the quality of the original design; if the design does not have ultra detailed sections, you can avoid setting the machine to higher resolutions above 1K and benefit from, still, very detailed engravings and insane speeds.

STAINLESS STEEL / METAL

Engraving metals like stainless steel was fast and buttery smooth with the powerful 20W of the 1064nm fiber laser while also answering with pristine detail and resolution that can be boosted to 8K and benefit from the highly-precise 0.06 x 0.06 mm laser spot of the fiber laser.

The example test below was done over stainless steel for the bottom of a dog’s drinking bowl, using the max. power of the fiber laser and very high speeds of 5% depth, the total test engraving took just 28 seconds to be finished.

With a prior careful material testing, you can also achieve color engraving over stainless steel ranging from red, yellow, blue, brown and different scales of grey when using the 20W 450nm blue diode laser – a detailed material test engraving will take long time but it will be worthy to avoid hit and miss engravings and to nail the desired effects.

CURVED/CYLINDRIC OBJECTS (LaserPecker Rotary Extension used)

Of course, if you are looking forward to engrave curved objects, you will have to consider buying the LaserPecker Rotary Extension as this will be the perfect match to obtain impeccable engraving over curved objects like mugs, glasses, rings, baseball bats and whatever else you can imagine.

As a first test with the Rotary Extension and the LaserPecker LP5 we did an engraving on a metal ring, testing like this 3 areas: micro-detail, curved objects and metal engraving.

The results were a blazing fast engraving that took seconds to complete and finely detailed sharpness with also smooth shapes and no jittery lines – as the Rotary Extension of the LP5 is the same model as the one compatible with the LP4, the exact same preparation and procedures are needed, like: measuring and setting diameter, perimeter and setting the right angle and jaw adjustment for each object.

The LaserPecker Rotary Extension also allowed us to engrave bigger objects that where not necessarily annular, like cylindrical, conical or spherical ones (between 3mm and 200mm); in our case we tested engraving a big mug. The Rotary Extension had the right force to hold and rotate the mug without struggling and responding with fluid rotational movements that were sync’ed with the laser beam while the engraving task was carried on.

ACRYLIC (LaserPecker Slide Extension used)

Engraving acrylic with high-performing laser machines like the LaserPecker LP5 is quite amazing, as the effect over the engraving acrylic generates impacting results.

Having a powerful 20W 450nm blue diode laser and an even more sophisticated 1064nm fiber laser with whopping 20W of power, the LP5 had no issue to engrave over acrylic with either the blue diode or fiber laser.

We always prefer the final effect, resolution and style obtained with a 1064nm fiber laser to engrave acrylic materials; and, as you can appreciate from the test engravings, the LP5 created gorgeous acrylic engravings.

Furthermore, we proceeded to take advantage of the slide extension accessory, which enabled the team to boost the acrylic engraving capability to 300mmx160mm, making a larger-sized engraving over a full-sheet of black acrylic and this time aiming for a relief 3D effect with a more powerful nearly-carving setting.

The results showed that the slide extension, did not only offer an exponentially larger engraving size but also did not exhibit a single issue nor reduce the original quality of the machine without the addon. In fact, the slide extension was stable and accurate as to show zero blurriness, distortion and any image degradation generated by the moving elements of the slide extension.

PAINT COATED METAL

Engraving a painted metal sheet was extremely easy for the LaserPecker LP5, which finished a small engraving task in just a couple of seconds and with remarkable detail resolved despite the small engraving of 30x30mm.

WOOD

We proceeded to do some engraving and carving with the 20W blue diode laser at 1K, 4K and 8K resolution.

As other resolutions above 1K did not offer presets in the PC app for image engravings, we did some manual configuration of Depth and Power to obtain the better possible results on our 4K and 8K engraving tests.

The 1K resolution tests, were done with the recommended settings according to the default preset, which offered quick engraving times and problem-free, nice final results.

As you can see from the photos, every single test concluded with pristine results and fine-detailed engravings without compromises nor flaws.

A very noticeable difference with other laser engravers was that the wood engravings with the LaserPecker LP5 allowed also the creative use of deep engraving with a 3D layering and greyscale embossing capability (also this embossing can be achieved over stone and metal)

GLASS & MIRRORS

Personalizing a mirror with a custom Christmas design was extremely fast and easy, taking only 15 seconds to complete the engraving task at 2K with the fiber laser mode.

ABS PLASTIC

We did a name and design personalization over a True Wireless Earbuds unit, applying the engraving on the ABS battery case.

The results were defined and created a lovely, custom-TWS in less than 10 seconds while using the 1064nm fiber laser.

LEATHER

As a final engraving test, we applied a personalized design over a leather keychain with a theme perfect for a musician friend.

The design was engraved flawlessly, in less than 5 seconds, using the fiber laser mode.

CUTTING
gramophone-256604.5/5

As we mentioned throughout the review, a small cutting plate comes included for free with all variants of the LaserPecker LP5 but you might want to buy the larger cutting plate accessory if you want to make full use of the cutting area.

Moreover, an accessory like the LaserPecker Air Purifier was a life-saving addon to own and use during cutting tasks, ensuring that you do not inhale toxic fumes that could be hazardous for your respiratory health.

METAL

Metal cutting is a feature that nearly every other commercial laser machine is unable to achieve, but the new LP5 has raised the bar here – needless to highlight but this is a job that is only done with the 1064nm fiber laser.

We did a cutting test of thin stainless steel sheet which was successfully cut in single pass but the machine was set to its maximum capabilities by using 100% power and nearly 100% Depth (slowest speed) in order to get the job done, thus you will need patience and time to complete these type of tasks and more than one pass if your metal is thicker or of a harder nature.

Cutting a straight line like we did for the test is not an exciting metal cutting but you have the total freedom and design capability to create any complex and unique shapes and forms to be then cut with laser precision (literally) and the LP5 will fully take care of the task with no issues.

RUST REMOVAL

The innovatively powerful 20W 1064nm fiber laser allowed us to use the LaserPecker LP5 not only a laser metal cutting machine but also a rust removal one.

Removing rust, was unexpectedly efficient and lightning fast, removing 100% of the rust found on an old wrench and also on a rusty Lineman’s plier – we left some section with rust so you can see the night and day difference of the areas where the LP5 went through.

WOOD

As we mentioned throughout the review, the 20W 450nm blue diode laser unit is a sweet spot for engraving and cutting too, expanding mostly the potential and cut depth of wood materials. In fact, we were able to cut wood thicknesses that the 10W of the LP4 was unable to cut.

A 10mm piece of wood was run through the 20W blue laser and achieved a clean and burn-free cut in a single pass – you are basically getting the same power that you can get with the huge LaserPecker LX1 MAX with the 20W laser head module.

We pushed the cutting power of the LP5 trying to cut 20mm wood and the machine was able to complete the job as well but 8 passes were necessary to do a clean cutting job – a 40mm was also cut but we did a 2-side cut and flip way doing 20mm cuts per side. Below you can see the results.

ACRYLIC

As the 20W blue laser is also well set and powerful enough to cut acrylic, we did a cutting test of a thick 8mm acrylic piece and the LP5 managed to cut the material with clean cutting lines and no over-melting nor jagged lines.

We nearly double the thickness and re-tested the LP5 with 15mm thick acrylic; the sheet was cut with 5 passes but we could had applied different parameters to complete the full cut in less passes.

LEATHER

Cutting leather was already and easy task completed by the 10W of the LP4 and the LP5, in fact, applied any cut pattern over leather like if it was butter.

POW

POWER CONSUMPTION
gramophone-25660
5/5

Despite having a laser head 10 times stronger than the previous generation, the LP5 has only 80W of added power consumption (compared with the LaserPecker LP4)

Moreover, as the max. power consumption is as little as 180W and fully powering most accessories addons (rotary extension, slide extension), the LaserPecker LP5 results in a highly power-optimized machine that will show less impact over your electricity bill than any 3D FDM printer and even than 3D resin printers.

SW

SOFTWARE
gramophone-256604.25/5

The LaserPecker LP5 is designed to work with LaserPecker Design Space PC or mobile app. Therefore, laser enthusiasts used to work with Lightburn for their laser creation might need to re-learn the different software and parameter scales used in LaserPecker’s app.

Nonetheless, the branded software has been out for some years already and is constantly updated with new and better features while always having a more consumer-friendly UI and operation with simpler and less tech-savy, overcomplicated settings which avoids overwhelming users.

If you are a LightBurn die-hard, the LaserPecker LP5 is compatible with LightBurn also but it requires some fiddling to correctly configure it and each software uses different scales and parameters that might make things confusing – to be honest, the LaserPecker LP5 works better with LaserPecker Design Space mobile app as it includes far more features and options than the PC version.
