Feitun BT-003 – Review

Feitun BT-003

Feitun BT-003

? The Feitun BT-003 are a super budget earphone that offer some characteristics not usually seen within their price range; such as robust flat tangle-free cables, L shaped stereo mini plug and most of all an extension cable that includes an inline microphone and a button control. The Feitun are made entirely of cheap plastics that feel fragile, the inline microphone and button control section is made of the same plastic. What is the fuss with this extension cable? The fact that the inline mic is on the extension cable and not on the earphone section of the cable allows you to use the extension cable with any other earphone that does not have an button control and microphone and add this functionality to it/them.

Accessories & Packaging

Packaging is very simple and no extra eartips are provided but what stands out is the supplementary extension cable that comes inside the box (this extension cable holds an inline microphone and 1 button control)

Bass & Sub Bass

The Feitun have some mid-bass but the quality is terrible, additionally they do not have any kind of sub-bass at all. An EQ makes no difference at all to the horrible bass performance. After our extreme bass test the Feitun handled 45% of a Fiio E12’s maximum power and were able to produce a lot more of mid-bass than before and a slight quantity of sub-bass but the overall quality was still very bad and distorted. You can imagine already that they are not basshead earphones at all.

Mids & Vocals

Mids are boxy and a bit muddy but not too recessed on higher mids. Higher mids are harsh in several moments, lower mids and lower vocals lack warmth. An EQ, again, makes no difference here.

Highs & Treble

The Feitun’s highs lack brightness but are able to resolve some very mild detail, usually their highs are not too piercing and never sibilant. After an EQ a lot more of detail and brightness is gained, sibilance is not introduced but the piercing highs become much more frequent and strong.

Sound Leak

The sound that leaks out of these earphones is very high, almost everything that you are listening to is heard by people nearby and even not so nearby.

Sound Isolation

The performance is still very bad, they fail to provide any type of effective sound isolation. Very high volumes can be used to try to block better outside noises but the Feitun will still be unable to isolate much of the surrounding noises.

The very cheap plastic of the housings may make them feel fragile but at the same time it does not add extra weight to them and therefore allows them to be easy on the ears. The light weight and standard shape makes them comfortable to wear.

Response to Equalization

While equalizing the Feitun BT-003 showed almost no response, mids, vocals and bass did not change at all. Highs were the only frequencies that showed some type of change gaining brightness and detail but becoming much more piercing too.
