KANEN iP-808

KANEN iP-808

| 11 mm Driver |

? The KANEN iP-808 are part of the many earphones that the brand has manufactured. The housings are made of metal and hold inside a pretty large 11 mm dynamic driver. Each earpiece feels sturdy and durable; their shape has a narrow back that is excellent to easily grab them. The cables of the KANEN iP-808 are flat and rubberized and do a great job combating tangling issues, there is an inline microphone and 1-button control on the cable. The bifurcation cable piece and the headphone jack section are made of the same metal quality as the housings but the mic/control is made of plastic. You can buy the KANEN iP-808 in a large variety of colors: black with red cables, white with red cables, silve with black cables, blue with blue cables or pink with pink cables.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The bass from the 11 mm dynamic driver of the KANEN iP-808 is punchy and deep (mid-bass is stronger than sub-bass). Overall, their bass is strong and energetic enough to cover any music genre without issues. With an EQ, mid-bass gets very punchy and sub-bass adds some extra depth to it with a more boomy personality in general. Putting them through our extreme bass tests (Fiio E12 set to high gain and bass boost on + a custom basshead EQ), the KANEN iP-808 handled up to 45% of Fiio’s power with a much punchier and mostly deeper response but unable to reach basshead impact or rumble.

M

Mids & Vocals

Mids of the KANEN iP-808 are harsh in the higher mids section and more laid back on the lower end, mostly lower vocals may seem laid back or overstepped by mid-bass at times. Using an EQ the lower vocals clear up and sound free of any kind of recession, higher mids become very harsh and fatiguing.

H

Highs & Treble

The KANEN iP-808 have good detail and are bright. Piercing highs are frequently present with strong notes while sibilance is very mild and tolerable. Applying an EQ sibilance gets slightly enhanced, piercing highs remain equally as before and there is a substantial increase of detail.

C

EQ

Response to Equalization

Their response to EQ was fairly good but with some cons clearly empowered. Bass got strongly enhanced; mids and vocals sounded less recessed but the higher mids got too harsh; higher frequencies added brightness and most of all detail at the cost of stronger sibilance.
