MACAW TX-80 – Review

MACAW TX-80

 MACAW TX-80

| Bluetooth | 10 mm Driver | IPX5 |

? The MACAW TX-80 have very small sized housings but are outstandingly robust and have a nice substantial weight that makes them feel like a high-grade earphone.

The housings are built in metal and plastics with a rear section holding a magnetic system like we have seen on the MEIZU EP51, Plextone X41M, MEMT X5, among other.

The MACAW TX-80 features 10 mm dynamic drivers, an IPX5 waterproof rating and detachable Bluetooth cables with an MMCX connector. A MMCX Bluetooth cable with an IPX5 rating on it’s own will cost you the same or more than the price of the whole MACAW TX-80 unit, which already make these earphones a superb bang for buck deal.

The MACAW TX-80 belongs to the T-Series wireless line in MACAW catalog, sitting next to the:

The MACAW TX-80 durability feels excellent with super durable construction quality with a 50-50 metal and robust plastic construction. The cables are flat, thick and very rubberized.

The wireless Bluetooth style of these earphones is what, sometimes, is called “neckbud” because of the Bluetooth module and battery that are hold inside a piece that goes around and behind the neck, you might most probably know this design from the Beats by Dr. Dre BeatsX, but with the huge difference that the MACAW TX-80’s Bluetooth cable is detachable. Inline you will find a 3-button remote and microphone, both are placed on the right side of the Bluetooth module, as well as the micro USB charging port.

The MACAW TX-80 is fully compatible with Android and Apple devices.

A

Accessories & Packaging

The MACAW TX-80 unboxing results in a fairly large soft carrying pouch, a USB charging cable and a total of 2 specially designed eartips which MACAW explicitly highlights to have special attention while replacing them as to align the vent hole on the earpieces with the corresponding hole on the eartips.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The MACAW TX-80 bass is clean and well-balanced, mid-bass and sub-bass will provide sufficient response to cover any music genre. Do not expect a bassy, boomy or basshead style but a less aggressive and more controlled bass, still they do not under-deliver punch nor depth.

If, intentionally or unintentionally, you block the vent holes of the earpieces with the eartips (slightly misaligned), their bass will radically transform into a super punchy and extremely deep bass. To be honest, their full and clean bass with the stock eartips position is delightful to listen and if you want you can easily force them into a bassy style with a simple eartips slight rotation.

Applying an EQ, the MACAW TX-80 reveal the real potential of their bass response showing a tremendous increment of both punch and depth while remaining clean and never boomy.

M

Mids & Vocals

The MACAW TX-80 mids are clear with crisp higher mids and no strong presence of mid-bass bleed. Consider that some higher harsh peaks can be perceived at times. Female and less deep-toned vocals sound perfectly clear and not rolled off.

With an EQ there is an improvement of their lower vocals, becoming much more energetic and alive. Higher mids will get crispier too but do not bump them too much as to not fall into harshness.

H

Highs & Treble

The MACAW TX-80 has fairly bright highs with good detail, sibilance is usually not acute. Some piercing highs show up but are not extremely strong.

An EQ adds a very noticeable amount of brightness and detail, sibilance could get stronger but dialing down them a bit will make them remain under control.

Sound Leak

The sound that leaks out of MACAW’s earpieces is fairly less noticeable than on many average earphones, not highly silent but absolutely usable on everyday situations.

Sound Isolation

Isolation is very noticeable, the noises surrounding you will get subdued without having to recur to the use of a high volume level.

C

Comfort

The fit of the MACAW TX-80 is exceptional, resulting in a tight and secure but not unconformable placement that will withhold through out any day use. The rubberized material on the neckbud piece that goes around the neck adds up to their stable fit to keep in place during sport activities.

EQ

Response to Equalization

The response to the EQs applied to the TX-80 was very effective showing an insane makeover of their bass style transforming into a highly punchy and deep earphone. Mids responded with a very significant empowering of their lower mids and lower vocals. Highs added noticeable brightness and much more detail was resolved.
