Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 – Review

Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190

Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190

| 10 mm Driver | Neodymium Magnet |

? We have already reviewed the most famous Panasonic earphones in the Ergofit line (Panasonic RP-TCM125 and Panasonic RP-HJE120), this time we are reviewing the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 which are part of the same family but are positioned above them.

Once again we see that all 3 iems in the Ergofit line share aesthetics and ergonomic design; we see the same flat cone shaped style of housings, angles nozzles, oval eartips, overall weight, fit and comfort, basic cable quality and 45 degree stereo mini plug.

The broader frequency response and the bigger dynamic driver could offer an advantage against the Panasonic RP-HJE120 Ergofit and the Panasonic Ergofit RP-TCM125.

If we see the specifications of the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 we can also notice that they are very similar with the same 200mW, a neodymium magnet, 16 ohms, similar sensitivity, a slight difference in frequency response (6Hz-24kHz) and a bigger 10mm dynamic driver. The broader frequency response and the bigger dynamic driver could offer an advantage against the Panasonic RP-HJE120 Ergofit and the Panasonic Ergofit RP-TCM125.

The Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 can be bought in a large variety of colors that look very nice, some of the colors offered are: black, white, gray, blue and violet.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The bass coming out of the 10mm dynamic driver with the neodymium magnet of the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 is energetic with good mid-bass punch and very deep sub-bass. If you own the Panasonic RP-HJE120 Ergofit or the Panasonic Ergofit RP-TCM125 you will clearly notice that the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 offer a way stronger bass response, which is punchier, deeper and that is capable of adding more fun than the other 2 Ergofits.

An EQ, made the Panasonic RP-HJE190 punchier but most of all much deeper while recessing mids, vocals and highs.

The Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 were able to handle 39% of a Fiio E12’s maximum power while running them through our extreme bass test. The results of the test showed an exponential increment of mid-bass punch and sub-bass depth; basshead impact and rumble levels were noticeably stronger than the Panasonic RP-HJE120 ErgofitPanasonic Ergofit RP-TCM125 and even of the JVC Gumy Plus HA-FX5 but still they were not able to reach the level of the KZ ATE or any other true basshead earphone.

M

Mids & Vocals

Mids are warm and, because of mid-bass bleed, lower mids sound muddy and laid back. Higher mids can get harsh with very high notes. Comparing them to the other Ergofits that we have tested, the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 are much warmer than the Panasonic RP-TCM125 and the Panasonic RP-HJE120 and also vocals sound more congested and muddier than them. After applying an EQ, lower recession issues were almost completely solved but higher mids became harsher. Also, some boxy sound was introduced but not as much as what the Panasonic RP-TCM125 and the Panasonic RP-HJE120 got after equalizing.

H

Highs & Treble

The highs of the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 are very recessed, darker than the Panasonic RP-HJE120 Ergofit and Panasonic Ergofit RP-TCM125 with also much less perceived detail, which could probably be cause bass is too overwhelming on the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190. Highs do not become piercing nor sibilant at any time. An EQ, brought a lot more of detail and definition out of nowhere and overall it cleared up noticeably without becoming piercing nor sibilant.

Sound Leak

The sound that leaks out of these earphones is noticeable and can be mediumly  heard by people nearby even on normally noisy situations.

SI

Sound Isolation

Sound isolation of the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 was good but for some reason not as good as the Panasonic RP-HJE120 Ergofit, to reach the same level of isolation we needed to apply higher volumes on the RP-HJE190 than on the RP-HJE120.

C

Comfort

When we previously reviewed the Panasonic RP-HJE120 Ergofit and the Panasonic Ergofit RP-TCM125 we highlighted how comfortable their fit was and being, the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190, designed identically they share the same degree of comfort. Apparently the combination of super lightweight, angled nozzles, flat cone shaped housings and maybe the oval eartips is the key of the success in comfort performance that the Ergofit line is able to provide.

EQ

Response to Equalization

When applying custom equalizations to the Panasonic ErgoFit Plus RP-HJE190 they were able to greatly improve their low performing highs, mids and vocals also took great advantage of EQs but introduced some issues in harshness and boxiness, lower frequencies also got highly enhanced.
