QCY T3 – Review

QCY T3

QCY T3

| 6mm Dynamic Drivers | True Wireless | IPX5 |

? QCY T3, one of the newest true wireless headphones from the brand.

The QCY T3 is also found as QCY IN1832 or QCY-T3.

The QCY T3 features a single 6mm dynamic driver per earpiece, Bluetooth 5.0 and touch controls.

The earpieces adopt a sort of Apple AirPods design but with a semi-earbud form factor and a flat back section instead of rounded.

The case of the QCY T3 is, as well, a battery pack and the charging system of the earpieces – which, in fact, looks the same as the one of the QCY T2C and, even, has the same dimensions.

The brand declares that the diaphragm of the drivers in the QCY T3 is the same type of the SONY MDR-E888, an old classic earbud from the earlies 90’s that was quite popular at the time.

QCY T3 Review

Tests & Scores

A

Accessories & Packaging

Regarding accessories, users should not be too excited as the QCY T3 comes with a charging cable for the case and the case itself.

The brand does not include any additional eartips with the unit, which is a pity as the design of the eartips is unique to the QCY T3 and owners will not have any chances of getting replacements for them when the wear out or if they get lost.

Advanced Features

The advanced features of the QCY T3 include:

  • IPX5 waterproof rating
  • Touch controls
  • Mono and stereo modes
  • Noise cancelling mics for phone calls (this is not an earphones with Active Noise Cancelling)

OC

Operation & Control

The rear section of both earbuds on the QCY T3 is touch sensitive, allowing all the main music playback control and calling commands.

Nonetheless, we found that volume control, despite seeming smartly designed, it is not the best implementation of touch controls for volume setting as on other touch-enabled true wireless headphones, such as the MEIZU POP2 that with it’s simpler operation results in a more usable touch control.

The sensitivity of the touch controls seemed very responsive at times but did also show some issues at times detecting the touch inputs.

Another problem noticed was that the earbuds did not sit as they should inside the charging case, needing to be forced with the fingers further in to be able to touch the charging connections; if this is not done, most of the times the earbuds will not charge.

Each earpiece of the QCY T3 holds a 3.7V 60mAh li-ion battery that fully charges in 2 hours, while the case is equipped with ten times the mAh charge with 3.7V 600mAh.

The rated battery life of the QCY T3 is 5 to 6 hours per charge and a total of 25 hours when adding the on-the-go charges provided by the battery case.

The brand recommends to charge the unit with a compatible USB charger able to provide 5V and 2.1A and not using quick chargers.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The bass response of the QCY T3 exhibits a stronger mid-bass bump with a punchier than deeper personality.

Nonetheless, the QCY T3 is not a bassy earphone, entering better as a contender on the conservative or quasi-anemic bass categories.

Sometimes this tuning is appreciated by listeners who search for less-invasive bass. For listeners who are looking for a true wireless headphone for mainly EDM or bass-heavy tracks, the QCY T3 will not be a wise choice.

It is important to highlight that the QCY T3 will offer a bass style that will be adapted for listeners who do not care about sub-bass and who prefer a less-drowning bass response than an energetic or powerful mid and sub bass.

Overall, the mixed bass styled can shine with some tracks or feel weak on others.

Applying an EQ, their mid-bass can be slightly empowered but sub-bass will have no chance of being woken up responding with empty tones.

Seal, placement and bass

The QCY T3 has a particular behavior, according to the level of seal achieved by each user, the bass response will be absolutely different – this is something that can be seen many times on headphones with earbuds design.

According to our tests, the bass personality and response exhibited more often was the one described on the initial part of this Bass & Sub-bass section where a partial seal is achieved.

If forced deeply into the ears and getting an absolute seal between the rubberized eartips and the surface of the ears, the QCY T3 exhibits a very powerful, punchy and deep bass response but we noticed that this placement of the earbuds and level of seal was impossible to maintain unless pushing and holding them with the fingers.

Tech-savy users can take a look at the effects through our frequency response measurements at the bottom of this QCY T3 review article.

Mids & Vocals

The mids on the QCY T3 do not suffer from much mid-bass bleed but, still, their male vocals laid back tuning can range from a relaxed tuning up to a distant feel at times.

Higher mids are more emphasized than their lower mids with a spicy and at times tolerably harsh personality.

An EQ has the potential to “repair” the male vocals distant sound without deteriorating the rest of the midrange – higher mids should not be boosted if you want to avoid excessive harshness.

Highs & Treble

The overall highs of the QCY T3 are unexpectedly competent resolving detail while neither does fall behind on the brightness department.

Their upper highs might not be as bright nor as refined as some audiophile wired alternatives but do offer a pleasant balance of brightness and non-fatiguing sound.

Piercing peaks are very rare with the QCY T3 but sibilance will be frequently present.

With an EQ, their highs can be pushed into a “sparkly” and less-busy sound but can risk to become too fatiguing.

SL

Sound Leak

The sound leaking out of the QCY T3 is remarkably low, making it way less hearable than many average headphones.

Listening to music at moderate levels allows them to be nearly silent to nearby people and even safely usable in libraries.

SI

Sound Isolation

With it’s semi-earbud design, the does not provide strong isolation. Indeed, the QCY T3 isolation achievable is way inferior than on most normal earphones.

This lower isolation capability might be a cons for some users but could be a positive aspect for users that need/want partial awareness of the environment while listening to music at moderate low volume settings.

C

Comfort

The semi-earbud with the rubberized eartip results in great level of comfort with no excessively pointy nozzles that get into the ears, yet it is worth mentioning that the nozzle are wider than many in-ear headphones.

Despite this, the elongated end of the earbuds and less-tight fit will make them wobble and loose placement when using the touch controls.

EQ

Response to Equalization

The QCY T3 showed remarkable response over lower mids and male vocals but no aid for sub-bass and fair improvement over highs but introducing piercing and sibilant peaks.
