Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear – Review

Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear

Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear

| Dynamic Driver |

? Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear, probably the most famous headphone from the Momentum series.

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear features a single dynamic driver configuration but the brand does not disclose much information about it nor specifies it’s size.

The MOMENTUM In-Ear can be also found as Sennheiser M2 IE or Sennheiser MOMENTUM 2.0 in-ear – a multiple naming that sometimes can become confusing to consumers.

The housings of the MOMENTUM In-Ear have a very special and original form factor that was never seen before their introduction to the headphones market, with it’s curvy forms and futuristic aesthetics.

The shiny finish on the shells might make them seem metal to the eye but are actually constructed in plastics, that do feel a bit fragile but that grant a remarkably light weight.

The back faceplate of the earphone has a metal-like Sennheiser logo and the rear end has a loop that can relief some tension on the cable.

The cable is very rubberized and what we would define as semi-flat with fairly good capability against tangling issues. The details found through out the cable are made of plastic, including the cable strainer, cable bifurcation, remote/mic and some parts of the L-shaped 3.5mm plug.

A shiny Sennheiser logo can also be seen on the cable adjustment/tightener with a color changing design that can be part of the details that confirm that users got a real Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear headphone and not a counterfeit one. Shameful as it might sound, the wide popularity of the model has lead to many fake units entering the market, a similar phenomenon that happened with the Beat urbeats and that we talked about when reviewing it.

After the Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear, the line started to expand including to date a wider number of products options, such as the:

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear comes with a 3-button remote/mic but, unfortunately, the compatibility is limited to the model that users choose when buying it – same as seen with the JAYS a-JAYS FIVE.

You can buy the Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear in black color with silver accents or in red with combined black and silver details.

A

Accessories & Packaging

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear unboxing results in 4 pair of eartips of 4 different sizes and a very nice hard case.

The unit comes inside a fairly small package with a mainly dark design, typical from Sennheiser headphones.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear bass is super punchy and deep with a tendency to a more mid-bass centered profile.

Despite highlighting this mid-bass weighted personality, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear are certainly not lacking sub-bass, instead they can extend far into the sub-bass lower end and fulfill absolutely any bass-hungry genre and tracks.

People looking for super fun and energetic bass listening sessions will probably love these.

Expect a strong and party-styled bass out of them – bassheads might also dig this one. As so, do expect boosted and bloated bass.

With an EQ an even punchier and insanely deeper response is unleashed.

Through out our extreme basshead test, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM took up to 35% of FiiO A5 max power showing an exponential increment of both punch and depth with some mild basshead rumble and impact but not as strong as the Sony MDR-EX800st, Pioneer SE-CX8 and Sony MDR-EX650 were able to reach.

M

Mids & Vocals

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear mids have a very warm, full personality with very noticeable mid-bass bleed.

On the other hand, their upper midrange is crisp enough for normal and casual listening sessions.

The rolled-off higher mids give them an absolute free of harshness sound that results in an, overall, warm, cozy and smooth/non-fatiguing sound that can make them a great everyday companion when critical listening is not intended.

With the right EQ, lower vocals and lower mids will clear up and tame down some of their mid-bass bleed but it will always be present.

H

Highs & Treble

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM In-Ear highs provide enough brightness and some detail with a general dark tint layer over them.

Regarding fatiguing peaks, they do not exhibit piercing highs, while sibilance might slightly show up on sibilant-intense tracks.

With an EQ, their highs gain detail and brightness with a remarkably more open sound – sibilance will become noticeably stronger.
