Vots QT100 – Review

Vots QT100

Vots QT100

| Balanced Armature | 13 mm Driver |

? Vots is not a massively known brand, at least not to us, but when we knew about the specs of the Vots QT100 we where immediately interested in testing them and seeing how they perform. The Vots QT100 have a very large dynamic driver with a diameter of 13mm but what makes it interesting is that it comes combined with a balanced armature. The combo of such a large driver responsible of the bass and a balanced armature for the mid and high frequencies could be a killer combination. There are many hybrid earphones but usually they carry very small dynamic drivers to handle the bass range. We have high expectations of what this can possibly offer, take a look at the rest of the review to see how it performed.

The Vots QT100 have a selling price simliar to the typical budget hybrids on the market. The can be bought in either black colour or white colour. The cable is rubberized and almost aesthetically identical to most of KZ earphones (like the KZ ATE, KZ ATR, KZ HDS3, KZ HD9, KZ ZST, KZ ED12, KZ ZS2 cable), it is not detachable and is equipped with an inline microphone and a 3 button control (volume +, volume -, play/pause/skip track)

Accessories & Packaging

The Vots QT100 comes in a box with a magnet closing system, inside you will get 2 extra pair of eartips and a very appreciated “wing” add-on accessory included. This wing accessory makes the Vots get a highly secure fit able to hold any type of sport and never fall of your ears. These wings can be removed if you prefer to get a more comfortable fit.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The Vots QT100 carries a 13mm dynamic driver responsible of solely the bass and sub-bass response, having such a large driver and with only the bass frequencies to take care of you would expect a marvelous performance. The bass coming from the QT100 is boosted and boomy, mainly centered on mid bass. Bass does bleed to the mid frequencies making them mediumly muddy.

Sub-bass gets deep and can get some respectable impact only if you eq and amplify. You will be surprised that the Vots QT100 can enter basshead territory if handled correctly with equalization and amplification. The guts of this Vots can handle extremely high amplification; with a Fiio E12 with bass boost ON and on high gain, they manage to handle 68% of the Fiio’s maximum power, quite unexpected. When you reach this extreme pushing you will get a sub-bass impact above the KZ ATE, slightly above the Monoprice 8320 under the same conditions but still below the Xiaomi Mi Quantie Pro Hybrid, Senfer 4in1, Doboly Q18, Plextone X41M or Sony MDR-XB50AP.

M

Mids & Vocals

Mids are recessed along all the mid frequencies, though not muffled they are recessed enough to make vocals feel laid back or lack presence at times. For sure you will not get fatigue or harshness from the mids of the Vots QT100 but with vocal and mid centered music you will wish they were a little more forward. If you are very sensitive to female vocals peaks you could be happy with this Vots.

H

Highs & Treble

The highs of the Vots QT100 are mildly recessed but still present, they are not forward. They do not become sibilant or piercing with any genre. If you have a preference for extremely clear and detailed highs this iems might fall a little short for you. At the same time, they are not a poor performer with highs and does a better job than many other iems.

SL

Sound Leak

The sound that leaks out of these earphones is high, people near you will hear what you are listening to and most of all if you crank the volume up.

SI

Sound Isolation

Sound isolation is respectable, they will reduce noticeably the environmental sound but do not expect a total isolation.

C

Comfort

On photos they look big and clunky but being made entirely of plastic they are very light and they are actually also really comfortable. Put the wing accessory on them and fit becomes earthquake proof (meaning, they will not fall from your ears by any chance), more awkward to put on as well and you will loose the excellent comfort that they have without the wings; but it is a magnificent additional accessory that can come handy depending of your use.

EQ
Response to Equalization

The Vots respond fairly well to equalization but not excellently, it gets extra points here because of the ability to respectably explore basshead terrain when eqed and amplified correctly. Highs and mids can be slightly emphasized with equalizers but do not expect to push them too much on these frequencies.
