? The Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones Review is now part of our extent reviews database with this article where we will put them through our challenging tests.
Xiaomi is a young brand founded in 2010 in Beijing, China but despite their short age and having to compete against highly established brands they were able to manufacture such incredible value for money products that nowadays even the biggest brands shake up every time that Xiaomi launches a new product.
The Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones specs include a Bluetooth 4.1 version with HFP, A2DP, HSP and AVRCP, an IPX rating of IPX4, 10 meters of communication distance, 7 hours of battery life in talk time and 280 hours in standby. We have already reviewed many Xiaomi’s in-ear headphones and most of them were excellent like the Xiaomi Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro, the Xiaomi Mi Hybrid Pro HD and the super budget Xiaomi Mi Piston Fresh Edition.
Most times Bluetooth headphones have all their controls on the earpieces like what you can see in our QCY QY8 Review or in the case of the Jaybird Freedom Wireless Bluetooth Headphones vs Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones the Jaybird Freedom have an inline microphone unit on the cable of the earphones with all the controls while the Xiaomi have the Power ON, Play/Pause/Answer/Reject Call button and microphone in a small inline section on the cable but the Volume+ and Volume+ buttons can be found on the right earpiece. With this diverse design approach they were able to make a very small unit corresponding to the inline mic/button and by separating the controls you will never confuse which button corresponds to which function.
The cable that attaches both earpieces together is rounded and somewhat rubberized, the cable comes with a cable tightener which is very useful to reduce the bouncing movement of the cables while doing intensive activities or running. The Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones housings are mainly constructed in plastic but the outer part of them is made of metal with a very stylish looking pearled finish.
The overall construction quality of the headphones feels robust and durable despite the plastic materials, in fact, the construction durability feels stronger on the Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones vs Beats Powerbeats 2. The style of fit of the Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones vs Beats Powerbeats3 vs Beats Powerbeats2 is very similar with the design usage of fixed ear-hooks as what we have seen during or Beats Powerbeats 2 Review, the ear hooks offer a great level of security to their fit. These ear-hooks are not memory cables like what can be seen on the KZ ZS5, they are semi-rigid and do not have a customizable shape, they will always keep their angle. To be fair, they are excellently designed and comfortable but the first time that you put them on you will need some seconds to get used to the way of fitting them. You can find the Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones lowest price at:
It is important to let you know that the Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones soundtests were done at a 15% lower volume than our normal standardized volume level due to their stronger than average volume output.

Operation & Control
Once you get the Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones in pairing mode and turn on Bluetooth on your device you will see a Chinese name appearing that corresponds to the Xiaomi Mi Sports, precisely this is what you will see: The Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones microphone and control section allows you to do the following:
- A long press and hold: Power On and set to pairing mode, a female voice will tell you in Chinese that you are on pairing mode (at least that is what we think that she is saying)
- A single press: Play, Pause music or Answer calls
- A 1 second press and hold: Power On
- Long second press and hold while turned ON: Power off with a “goodbye” voice message in Chinese
- Calls Commands:
- 2x Press of Button: Redial the last telephone number
- A press and hold: During incoming call, reject call
The Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones volume control buttons allows you to: Volume UP Button:
- A single press: Volume up by 1 level
- A 1 second press and hold: Skip to next song
Volume Down Button:
- A single press: Volume down by 1 level
- A 1 second press and hold: Previous song
LED Status Light: The Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth status led light is stylish and less “look at me” styled and it is beneath the metal outer housing section. It will turn briefly white to indicate that t is turning on, if set to pairing mode the white colored light will blink rapidly, once paired and connected the led will blink once every 8 seconds. While turning the headphones off the led will briefly light up in red color. If the battery is low a voice alert will be heard (in Chinese) and the led light on the right earpiece will blink red. The led will also serve as an indicator to the charging status and to inform you when the unit is fully charged.

Accessories & Packaging
When you finish doing the Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones unboxing you will find the user manual, a micro USB charging cable and 5 pair of eartips. The packaging is a cardboard box with a white minimalist design like the packaging of many other Xiaomi In-Ear Headphones.

B
Bass & Sub Bass
The Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth Sports Headphones bass is punchy and deep with strong mid-bass and sub-bass to add fun and body to any song without issues. Despite the punchy bass they offer an overall well-balanced response without sounding exaggerated or overdone nor too boomy or invasive and at the same time they do not sound thin or lacking by any means. The Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth Sports Headphones bass is overall very well achieved and will make happy any type of listener.
With an EQ there is a crazy enhancement of mid-bass punch and an exponential increase of sub-bass depth.
As you might already have read from our reviews of other Bluetooth earphones such as the Jaybird Freedom and the QCY QY8, our extreme basshead tests cannot be done with Bluetooth headphones as the main component of the test includes running them through a Fiio E12 Mont Blanc amplifier and there is no effective way to connect them to this amplifier. Therefore, if you look at our Headphones Amplification Power Comparison page you will find that the Xiaomi’s are getting the same 0% amplification value as the QCY and Jaybird. If you are looking for an award winning basshead in-ear headphone (while extremely amplified and customly basshead EQed) you should consider buying the: Xiaomi Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro, Plextone X41M, Puma Bulldogs, KZ ZST or the mind blowing Sony MDR-7550 / Sony MDR-EX800ST and Pioneer SE-CX8.

Mids & Vocals
The Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones mids have lower mids and lower vocals that sound clear, vivid and energetic; higher mids are not recessed at all and a bit forward at certain times making them sound crisp and clear but can sound harsh too. An EQ makes their lower vocals fantastically clear but higher mids turn out too harsh.

Highs & Treble
The highs of the Xiaomi Mi Sports Bluetooth Headphones have a great amount of brightness, sound clear and crisp at the same time some marginal level of detail is resolved. Piercing highs can show up with high peaks and will become frequent if volume is set to anything above a moderate level. Sibilance is present but not intolerable, of course it will depend on each listener’s tolerance degree to sibilance. With an EQ, brightness is added up but no extra detail is resolved; piercing and sibilant highs become strong.

Sound Leak
The sound that leaks out of these Bluetooth earphones is somewhat higher than many average earphones, not something that will present a problem under normal circumstances and even less during sport activities, most probably not the best choice for high volume listening during exclusive library use.
6.5/10
SI
Sound Isolation
Noise isolation is quite efficient, slightly better than most average earphones. Moderate to low levels of volume can be set and the Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth Sports Headphones will still provide a fairly effective level of isolation.

C
Comfort
The Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth Sports Headphones at first sight may look a bit large and when looking at how they fit you will see that they protrude out of the ears more than many other earphones and these facts may make you fear of discomfort or fit issues. Do not worry, as soon as you wear them you will be surprised of their outstanding comfort and secure fit, in fact, the larger size and protruding fit do not generate any type of issues or awkward fit, you can wear them for hours and will not feel any pain or discomfort. Moreover their ear-hooks are wonderfully designed giving such a secure fit that can withstand even the most intensive activities without falling from the ears or even needing to be re-positioned.

EQ
Response to Equalization
The response to custom EQs during our tests showed clear improvement of some frequencies but also enhanced some issues. Mids benefited of a great clearing up of lower vocals but higher mids harshness got powered up too; bass greatly empowered their mid-bass punch and sub-bass depth without any problem; highs gained brightness but also sibilance and piercing highs.
