DT NO.1 keeps releasing new smartwatches in a pretty speedy rhythm but many times introducing new features or better polished performance.

The DT NO.1 DT ULTRA 4 is the 4th generation of the ULTRA models inheriting many of the core capabilities of the previous sibling.

Design

The DT NO.1 DT Ultra 4 has nearly identical physical design and size as most of the previous DT ULTRA watches with an Apple-inspired style.

This means that the DT ULTRA 4 has a nice rectangular form factor with curved edges and an unibody design that results in a classy and high-end feel.

Unlike the previous siblings, the new DT ULTRA 4 comes in black color with metallic orange button accents.

When used with the addon case, the watch gains a total makeover of the aesthetics with a more G-Shock vibe (but rectangular instead of circular) and a new combination of colors that uses a semi-translucid black acrylic for the main case, rose-gold buttons and rose-gold screw heads.

If you flip around the watch, you will see the bottom section where you can find the 4 magnetic charging pins and health-related sensors.

The fitness apps with dedicated sports presets and health monitoring sensors add up to a perfect companion for sports people that want to have better insights of their training sessions and keep track of them.

The device is not an Android watch but uses a network-sharing system to make use of internet needing apps.

Operation & Control

The watch is controlled through the touch sensitive screen and the use of 3 physical buttons plus a rotary encoder.

The left button works as a shortcut for the sports features but it is reprogrammable like we saw in another watch from the brand.

On the right edge you will find the knob that also has a button pressable function and the 3rd button.

Scrolling through menus and settings can be done with swipe gestures over the touch screen or by rotating the knob; allowing a dual system to adapt to each situation of user’s preference.

Battery Life

Inside, the watch holds a rechargeable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 400mAh.

The brand does not specify the estimated battery runtimes but from our tests while connected through BT to the phone’ app, we saw around 10% discharge per full day of normal average use; which eventually resulted in, more or less, 10 days of power on a single charge.

Construction & Build

The on-hand feel of the DT NO.1 DT ULTRA 4 is remarkable with a full-metal case combined with a level 3+ front tempered glass.

If you install the additional protective case, the watch becomes substantially bulkier, thicker and larger overall but you add a physical layer of protection to the watch that will ensure and even longer lasting life and higher capacity to withstand abuse.

On the other hand, since the main watch is all-metal and the case is plastic-made, the tank-alike tactile feel is lost and some of the buttons become wobblier.

Internally, the watch is powered by dual ATS3085S chips, DA267 G-sensor, BD1688 heart rate sensor and 4GB of internal disk space.

Screen

The screen of the DTNO.1 DT ULTRA 4 is very similar to the one of the previous model, being a very nice 2.04″ AMOLED display with a resolution of 368*448.

The display boasts beautiful colors, saturation, contrast and definition for both icons, photos, videos and also to all the fonts in the user-interface.

Consequently, using and reading the contents in the watch UI does not need any effort.

From factory, the watch comes with more than 20 pre-installed watch dials but you can access and install more from the watch’s dedicated setting or through the phone app – some of them need to be purchased but many are free of charge.

Comfort

The all metal and glass build of the watch could make some users fear of a heftily heavy and fatiguing watch to wear all-day. Instead, the DT NO.1 DT ULTRA 4 feels premium but not uncomfortable nor overweighted.

The rounded shapes and well-fitting wristbands added up to provide a perfect companion to wear without issues for a full intense day.

PER

Performance

As we own a very early version of the ULTRA 4, our unit had some issues out of the box but these were all related to firmware and which can be perfectly fixed with any upcoming update.

The first problem that we noticed was that at first boot the screen remained black like if the watch did not turn on; the fix was easy but not intuitive, pairing the watch to the phone app “repaired” the black screen issue and was not seen again.

The other issue that we encountered was that trying to open the App Store in the watch also resulted in an inoperable black screen; therefore we were unable to test and try the apps feature of the watch with the benefit of the network sharing functionality.

Apart from this, the watch performed within the same standards of the other newest models from the brand with snappy UI elements and menus and no noticeable lag on daily use of all the main features.

The dual Bluetooth was a great capability that we were glad to be included in the DT ULTRA 4; which was a breeze to use for either inter-connectivity with the smart functions paired to the phone’s app and/or to be used as a BT emitter to connect with TWS headphones for standalone music playback of the audio files saved to the internal storage of the watch.
