QCY MeloBuds N70, an affordable, modern in-ear TWS earphone from QCY.
The MeloBuds series are part of the newer models from the brand, with the MeloBuds N70 being the latest release.
The MeloBuds N70 are equipped with a dual hybrid driver configuration that includes a 10mm dynamic driver for most of the frequency ranges and a MEMS tweeter to handle upper frequencies – the stated frequency response of the N70 is 20Hz-40kHz.
The earphone has touch sensitive back plates that serve to control all the power, pairing, playback and modes of the device with ease; and 3 mics for calls, wind reduction and also ANC.
Inside each earpiece, the MeloBuds sport a 40mAh rechargeable battery that can provide up to 10 hours of playback time per charge, while the addition of the OTG charges provided by the case (480mAh) increases the total runtime to 50 hours – activating ANC reduced the total runtime by 30%.
Some welcomed features include programmability of the touch functions, EQ presets, channel balance, dual device connection, dedicated wind noise mode and a “find headset” function.

Bass & Sub Bass
The lower end of this dual-driver in-ear headphones responded with an intense mid-bass punch with even some visceral impact.
Sub-bass and the deepest end is able to be covered with efficiency and never presenting empty or shallow notes.
Seeing the potential we tested the boosting capability and even with the built-in EQ of the app and going through a custom-made basshead EQ, the QCY MeloBuds N70 revealed a well-worthy basshead performance with physical vibration in-ear coming from the pumping dynamic driver on each mid and sub-bass note.
Of course, the bass is not the tightest and less invading one but this is “normal” for a bassy earphone like this.

Mids & Vocals
The midrange of the QCY MeloBuds N70 has a very warm and full-bodied personality with male and deep pitched vocals that do not sound lifeless nor distant despite the big presence of mid-bass bleeding.
The upper mids and details like female vocals are smooth and less aggressive than on other mid-centered and sharp earphones.
Due to this, the MeloBuds N70 do not suffer from harsh and annoying upper mids but will not be the most midrange-clean sounding earphone that you can buy if you compare them with audiophile headphones.
The midrange of the QCY will be appreciate by users that like full, cozy and rich mids.

Highs & Treble
Highs on the QCY MeloBuds N70 are sort of similar to their midrange which means that they are acceptably not-dark and congested with sufficient detail but will not earn a trophy for the most open, bright and precise highs and treble ranges.
Also, in line with the mids, the upper frequencies are far from being fatiguing with little to no presence of piercing and sibilant spikes.

Sound Leak
If you go ear-deafening high with your music listening sessions, you need to know that the Melobuds N70 do leak more sound than average and your music will be heard by nearby commuters.

Sound Isolation
As passive earphones, the QCY are decent and fall within the standards of many other closed-back in-ear headphones but the N70 revealed a massive performance boost as soon as you turn on its Active Noise Cancelling function. If you compare the ANC of these budgets earphones with what the market offered in flagship premium models from 5 years ago, you will be surprised to find out how much ANC tech has been improved.
Moreover, the N70 allowed the option to set the earphone in different noise cancelling presets that could be fine-tuned in intensity, an adaptive mode and even select a passthrough mode to enhance the surrounding noises instead of reducing them – QCY names their ANC tech as PureSilenz.

Comfort
With no part showing sharp edges and the use of smooth curved shapes plus the angled nozzles design combine into a secure but very comfortable fit that can grant hours of usage without inducing pain nor fatigue.
The fact that the earphone is waterproof (IPX5) adds up to the comfort and worry-free usability of the device on daily activities and even sports training sessions.

EQ
Response to EQ
Since the QCY MeloBuds N70 are compatible with the brand’s phone app, getting into EQ and sound customization becomes much easier to less-experienced users.
With a good SQ initial level, the N70 responded very well to custom equalization to either boost or cool-down different ranges with substantial effect yet not ruining the overall sound.
And even more for the superb basshead potential that we mentioned in the Bass section.
