B

Bass & Sub Bass

The Denon AH-C50MA have a nice bass response with a good amount of punch and depth that will never sound anemic.

Their lower frequencies will tend to an energetic and powerful but not boomy nor extremely bassy sound.

Applying an EQ, there is an unexpectedly strong addition of depth and some extra punch.

During our extreme basshead tests the Denon AH-C50MA handled 45% of a FiiO E12 Mont Blanc (the newer model released is the FiiO A5) max power with a huge deepening of sub-bass but without reaching the insane levels of the Sony MDR-EX800st, Sony MDR-EX650, Pioneer SE-CX8 nor the Xiaomi Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro.

M

Mids & Vocals

Mids of the Denon AH-C50MA have crisp higher mids, an overall warm sound and a somewhat noticeable mid-bass bleeding into lower mids – this adds some degree of congestion. Nonetheless, male vocals achieve a fairly clear and non-distant response.

Usually no harsh peaks are present but it is right in the edge of becoming so.

An EQ makes a great improvement over male vocals and lower mids granting them a much more clean and less congested sound.

Higher mids should not be boosted by an EQ as they are already almost harsh.

H

Highs & Treble

The overall highs of the Denon AH-C50MA offer good brightness and a bit of detail. Sibilance and piercing highs might arise from time to time but are not extremely strong.

The use of an EQ can help them out to resolve detail and add a more spatial sound, if not done cautiously their fatiguing personality will get too strong.
