Vots J1 – Review

Vots J1

Vots J1

| 10 mm Driver |

? We have reviewed some other earphones from Vots and we have been happily surprised with the hybrid Vots QT100 model and afterwards very disappointed with the Vots DQ100 double dynamic driver model. We are uncertain if this time Vots will gratify us with a good one or a not so great one.

The Vots J1 are a metal housing earphone with a single 10mm dynamic driver, which is a slightly larger than average size.

The Vots J1 are a metal housing earphone with a single 10mm dynamic driver, which is a slightly larger than average size. They are nicely design with a textured metal surface and shiny finish that makes them look much more expensive than they are. Every other detail, as the bifurcation cable section and plug are made of metal too and share the same metallic quality and color as the housing, the button control/microphone is made of plastic instead. The cable is rounded and very rubberized with a very nice design and feels robust and durable; similar cable quality and design to the Plextone X41M, Plextone X50M, Songful S2, Songful F6C. The Vots J1 come with an inline microphone and 1 button control. Vots offers the J1 in black, silver white, red or golden (as the unit that we own and are reviewing)

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The Vots J1 have good nice punchy and deep bass that gives enough energy to the music but it is not overdone as to sound dark or become a basshead earphone. An eq changes very much the bass making them much more punchy and especially they gain much more sub-bass depth. The quantity of bass of the Vots J1 will suffice to satisfy many music genres and listeners with the option to equalize when wanting an extra kick of bass.

… the Vots will exponentially enhance the mid-bass punchiness and sub-bass impact to a marginal basshead rumble level

Amplifying and applying a custom basshead eq the Vots J1 were able to take 53% of the maximum power of a Fiio E12 amplifier when setting it to high gain and bass boost ON. With this configuration the Vots will exponentially enhance the mid-bass punchiness and sub-bass impact to a marginal basshead rumble level, above the KZ ATE (but distorted), Remax RM-565i, UiiSii Hi-705, and below the Vots QT100, Xiaomi Mi Pro HD, KZ ZST, KZ ED12, Elecom EHP-CA3580, Xiaomi Mi Quantie Pro Hybrid and nowhere near the Sony MDR-XB50AP, Plextone X41M, Doboly Q18 or Senfer 4in1.

M

Mids & Vocals

Lower mids are warm, recessed and distant but not excessively muddy and do not sound boxy. Higher mids are not recessed and sound much clearer. Overall they are not harsh. An eq helps to clear up lower mids and vocals but boxiness will start to appear.

H

Highs & Treble

The highs of the Vots J1 have some detail, definition and brightness. They are mostly not piercing and suffer from some sibilance but it is not too disturbing. And eq can be applied and the Vots will offer much more detail and definition without enhancing much of the piercing or sibilant highs.

SI

Sound Isolation

Sound isolation performance is slightly below average, medium to higher volumes might be necessary to better isolate from surrounding noises.

gramophone-256606.5/10

C

Comfort

The Vots have a durable metal housing that makes them feel solid but at the same time they are light weighted and will not cause any fatigue for long listening sessions, fit is tight enough and very comfortable.

EQ

Response to Equalization

The Vots J1 respond fairly well to equalization, a custom eq can be applied to enhance highs performance and much more detail and definition will be gained without becoming piercing or sibiliant. Mids will show clearer vocals and less laid back but they will start to sound boxy. Bass responds exceptionally to a custom eq giving the Vots J1 a much more punchy mid-bass and most of all deep sub-bass.
