The Ajazz AK820 Pro is a 75% keyboard with 81 keys and a knob.

On the lower bottom corner, next to the arrow keys, you will find a 0.85 inch screen (about the size of a keycap). The screen might be smaller than others but the information being displayed is well organized and visually intuitive with multi-colors differentiation and dedicated icons. On the other hand, other elements such as the date makes use of fonts that are too small.

The screen gives a quick insight of the current connection mode, battery charge, time, date, Caps Lock, Num lock, Win lock. Also, the screen allows animated GIFs and personalized designs and can be used to access an internal menu that gives quick control of the RGB effects, colors, patterns, speed, brightness.

On top of that, the keyboard has a 3 LED column that also lets you know when CAPS Lock, Win Lock is On and to see the status of the battery charging process.

The Ajazz AK820 Pro is available in 2 different colors:

• Ajazz AK820 Pro grey (as the one reviewed by us)
• Ajazz AK820 Pro purple white

The grey variant of the Ajazz AK820 Pro has a black case and a 3-color design for the keycaps which include light-grey, dark-grey and yellow – all with black fonts.

The color combination and general aesthetics of this Ajazz keyboard made us remember a FANTECH keyboard that we reviewed in the past, but there is something in the Ajazz AK820 Pro that makes it look more polished and harmonically finished.

The plastic case of the Ajazz AK820 Pro actually does not make justice to the premium internals that the keyboards holds inside.

The shell feel a bit cheaper than other plastic keyboards as it is ABS plastics but as soon as you see the inner guts you could start having more respect of this keyboard, with quality details such as a flex-cut polycarbonate plate, gasket-mounted design and a hot-swappable board with south-facing LED.

As a beneficial effect of the cheaper ABS case, the Ajazz AK820 Pro is remarkably light weighted and even lighter than many keyboards without an internal battery.

The keyboard has adjustable feet with 2 positions on top of the flat one, thus allowing 3 inclination options to adjust to the ergonomics preference of each user.

KEYCAPS

The keycaps have an OEM profile and are made of quality PBT material instead of the cheaper ABS material of keycaps seen on most mainstream keyboards.

The PBT keycaps ensure an oil-free aesthetic and non-fading fonts that will last forever; these PBT keycaps are quite thick and have a very finely and subtly textured finish that feels nice to the touch while offering better grip.

The knob of the Ajazz AK820 Pro is unexpectedly nice with a smooth rotational movement with per-notch tactile but silent feedback. The knob has a sweet spot of resistance and looseness that allows it to be easily manageable by single finger from the side without needing to grab it with several fingers to make it move.

The Ajazz AK820 Pro keeps surprising of how much value for money you get with it as this keyboard has a cheaper price than keyboards with fixed cable and wired only models but it offers a tri-mode wired & wireless connectivity options.

Even more, the wired option is detachable with a modern USB-C cable and wirelessly you can choose to connect the keyboard through a Bluetooth 5.1 connection or with a higher-performing 2.4G wireless connection with the included dongle.

To choose the connection mode you must access a switch placed on the bottom case section – a 2nd switch is found also, which allows to set the keyboard in Mac or Windows mode.

The dongle included with keyboard is stored in a magnetic attached slot next to one of the feet of the keyboard.

LIGHTING

The lighting effects of the Ajazz with its south-facing board offered a nice 3D effect and even illumination with bright and popping RGB lights and presets that also included dynamic effects.

SOUND

As we mentioned in the Switches sections, the version of the Ajazz AK820 Pro that we are reviewing came with Ajazz Gift switches; these switches combined with the quality PBT keycaps and plate-mounted prelubed stabilizers offered a final sound profile that was unexpectedly thocky despite the very cheap retail price of this keyboard.

The thock pitch and flavor reminded us a lot to the Epomaker EK21 numpad.

It is also worth mentioning that all stabs were remarkably well lubed and presented smooth, non-mushy travel while also being absolutely free from rattling and other noise issues – even premium Akko keyboards that we have reviewed do not nail the factory lube on their stabilizers.

The Ajazz AK820 Pro is one of the cheapest paths that you will find to get respectable thock out of the box.

SOFTWARE

The software from Ajazz allows all the standard customization and personalization options of most modern mechanical keyboard plus the edit and design of the screen content.

Through the PC software you can reprogram keys, macros, create profiles, access and edit lighting patterns, etc.

On the other hand, the software seemed a bit more buggy than others that we have tested.

BATTERY

This Ajazz keyboard has a 4000mAh battery, which is a bit larger than many other 75% keyboards and mostly at this price point.

A smart option that we have not seen on many keyboards with displays is that the Ajazz has a dedicated shortcut to turn off the display if wanted
