The Fantech Shooter III X is part of the Xbox-styled gamepads with a asymmetric thumbstick placement and main buttons labeled with X, Y, A, B.

Apart from the shape and style, the Fantech Shooter III X has also inherited the grippy, textured finish of the older sibling; which is smoother on the top cover and a bit more coarse on the bottom case.

The white variant that we are reviewing, looks and combined very well the all-white theme of the device with the accent of the poppy-colored A, B, X, Y buttons.

The controller sports 13 buttons, 2 thumbsticks and a D-pad but you will not find back paddles.

On the rear edge you will see an USB-C connector while the front edge is now equipped with a stereo 3.5mm headphone jack.

As with many Fantech controllers, the Shooter III X does not have a dedicated power switch besides a power-on/standby-on button on the center area of the front cover – the unit will go to sleep and then power off automatically after being idle for some time.

The Shooter III X is made of ABS plastic on both the back and front case – one of the most common polymers used for products for its light but durable quality and yet affordable price.

The gamepad might not feel as premium as some flagship competitors but it neither costs as much as them; the Fantech Shooter III X not only looks clearly as a direct competitor with the baseline Xbox controller but it also is inline in build feel.

On the other hand, internally, the Fantech sports better components and more modern tech, like hall-effect thumbsticks and triggers and built-in programmability and adjustability of the vibration motors.

CUSTOMIZATION

For programming and customizing macros and turbo functions we tend to prefer a dedicated PC software (unless the gamepad has a display screen). The SHOOTER III X, unfortunately, does not have any PC software at the moment of this review; this means that you will have to rely on the key combinations and shortcuts detailed in the user manual to access and set the gamepad’s customizations.

Despite this, the Shooter III X does not have macros and its Turbo feature is accessible with a dedicated button.

The gamepad can be used wired through a detachable USB-C connection and wirelessly with the dongle, using 2.4G wireless tech – the unit does not have Bluetooth connectivity.

Unlike the previous Shooter III, the new Shooter III X tops up at a polling rate of 125Hz – this might be upgraded in the future as with other models from the brand but we cannot assure this.

The Fantech Shooter III X was conceived as an entry-level gamepad competitor and gets the job done efficiently for gamers that are not looking for high-level competitive sessions and want a companion for daily casual gaming.

In spite of being a more basic controller without the bells and whistle of flagship gamepads, the Shooter III X presented a nicely balanced weight on the rear hall-effect triggers and way better membrane buttons than the Manba One – with also a tactile but silent feedback.

On top of that, the new X incorporates Turbo functions for easier spam smashing and you can select 3 different turbo levels on-the-fly.

The 2 internal rumble motors were fun to feel and use with a stronger vibrating effect than many other budget gamepads.

The gamepad is equipped with an internal battery of 600mAh which can provide up to 15 hours of continuous use on a single charge, which is pretty decent for such a light-weighted model.
