DESIGN

The FEKER IK85 Plus is a 75% keyboard with 83 keys and an overall clean aesthetic look.

If you want a reference of the size of this keyboard, the FEKER IK85 Plus is about one column of keys narrower than a TKL keyboard such as the FEKER Galaxy 80.

On the upper left edge of the case you will see a small piece with a color accent, this is the connection switch mode.

If you turn around the keyboard, you will see a metal plate centered on the bottom case, this metal plate is actually a 2-piece part where the shorter part is a cover for the 2.4G dongle slot.

On the bottom you will also see 5 silicone feet and 2 tiltable feet with two adjustable heights.

Sitting between the up arrow key and the DEL key, you will find a metal plate with a moon and cloud engraving; this plate does not hide anything below and it is not removable – on the PRO variant of the FEKER IK85 this is where you will find the display screen.

The FEKER IK85 Plus is available in 2 different colors:

• FEKER IK85 Plus white (model being reviewed)

• FEKER IK85 Plus black

The FEKER IK85 Plus has a polycarbonate case with some metal plate details. In comparison with other PC keyboards, the FEKER IK85 Plus feels sturdier and with a heftier quality of polycarbonate.

Internally, the keyboard is equipped with a leaf-mounted design that includes multiple layers for a dampening and springy effect.

The board has south-facing LEDs and a hot-swappable design that allows users to replace switches without needing to solder them.

KEYCAPS

The keycaps of this FEKER keyboard are sub-dye PBT with a MDA profile.

Following a coherent design of the keyboard, the keycaps use a combination of white, cream and pale color accents. In general, the contrast between the background and fonts of the keycaps works pretty well for the exception of the “pale grey” keycaps that provide less contrast and a more blended difference with the pale orange of the fonts.

The keycaps have a smooth texture with a very subtle grainy finish that is pleasant to the finger tips.

The FEKER IK85 Plus can be chosen with 2 types of linear switches from FEKER, the Feker Marble White or the Feker Mulan – the model that we are reviewing has the Mulan switches.

Spec-wise, the FEKER Mulan switches provide a fast linear performance thanks to a short 1.5mm of pretravel distance and combined with a lighter actuation force than the Marble White switches.

The Mulan switches come pre-lubed from factory and present a scratch-free and smooth travel at all times.

CONNECTIVITY

The brand has applied an rather unusual design for the wired connection, with 2 independent USB-C ports; one is used exclusively for charging the battery and the other only for connecting to a PC for wired used. This means that unlike typical keyboards, the unit will not charge if you are using it wired with your PC unless you plug the 2nd USB port to a PSU.

Unfortunately, the FEKER suffered from a drawback for users intending to use it wirelessly; the weak point was that the keyboard exhibited a delay of around 2 to 3 seconds to wake up from a standby status when using it on Bluetooth and 2.4G modes – wired there are no wake up delays as the keyboard does not get into standby mode.

TYPING

Typing with the FEKER IK85 Plus is a total joy from the feel of every keypress up to the audible feedback from the deep and clean sound profile.

GAMING

Due to the wake up delay in wireless modes, users intending to use the FEKER for gaming are highly advised to use it in wired mode.

Despite this issue, the FEKER is a very capable gaming keyboard with its smaller than TKL size, superb sound profile, RGB light and fast linear switches.

PRODUCTIVITY

The FEKER IK85 Plus has a smart size and layout for productivity on tighter workspaces, while the excellent stabs and switches provide another level of comfort for daily use.

On the other hand, seeing the delay issues, it might had been better to release the IK85 Plus as a wired only keyboard.

TABLET/MOBILE

Despite being a Bluetooth keyboard, which makes it compatible for mobile use, the reconnection delay almost cancels the versatility provided by the wireless mode.

It is a pity as this Feker keyboard had all the qualities to be a superb mobile keyboard.

The cream/white color of the case and keycaps combined with the white switch plate provide a boost in the efficiency and final effect of the RGB backlit board.

The keyboard looks brighter and more popping than other south-facing LED keyboards.

SOUND

The FEKER IK85 Plus sounds so nice that it has nothing to envy metal keyboards and even some DIY barebone kits.

As a matter of fact, this IK85 Plus has a deeper thock pitch than the aluminum-built FEKER Galaxy 80 with Marble White switches.

Of course, if you were looking for a silent and stealthy keyboard, this will not be the one.

The stabilizers and multi-dampening of this keyboard are remarkably good with completely rattle-free stabilizers with the perfect lubing from factory and an acoustic dampening layering that does a pristine job to the thocky sound profile and keeping the keyboard resonant, echo and hollow free.

SOFTWARE

Feker has not released a dedicated software for the FEKER IK85 Plus but the IK85 Pro sibling does have a software of its own that is partially compatible with the IK85 Plus.

Nonetheless, it has been reported by some users that the IK85 Pro software has the potential of killing completely and bricking the board of the IK85 Plus.

Said so, we do not recommend to use the software of the IK85 Pro to program your IK85 Plus; instead, wait for Feker to release a fully compatible and safe software for the Plus variant.
