The Meze 99 Classics features an over-ear, closed-back design with wood cups, 40mm dynamic neodymium Mylar drivers, cast zinc alloy details and detachable cables.

To be more precise, the Meze 99 Classics has CNC carved wood ear cups with real Walnut wood that is hand finished and polished. Each earcup goes through a 45 days process that involves shaping, sanding, lacquering and finishing – Walnut is one of the wood types chosen by modern luthiers for the construction of instruments.

The Meze 99 Classics durability feels superb thanks to their all metal and wood construction materials, you will never find a single piece in the Meze 99 Classics made of plastic.

The cables are detachable with straight 3.5mm connectors and and make use of metal for the construction of their structure while the connector itself is a gold-plated one. Two sets of cables are included: one of is a 1.2m Kevlar OFC cable with an inline remote/mic and the other one is a 3m OFC cable.

The Meze 99 Classics unboxing results in an airplane adapter, a 6.3mm adapter, a 1.2m Kevlar OFC cable with an inline remote/mic, a 3m OFC cable, a pair of Meze Audio stickers, a soft case for the accessories and a very nice hard clamshell-like case for the headphones.

Everything comes inside a large and well-protected packaging with magnetic closure and book-like opening.

Bass & Sub Bass

The Meze 99 Classics bass is punchy and very deep but does not become boomy. Their lower frequency’s response is able to cover any music genre’s bass  requirements without issues and, at the same time, adds warmth and a cozy general feel to it’s sound style.

Expect a full-bodied and energetic lower frequencies response that still manages to remain fairly controlled without stepping over the whole sound signature.

Applying a custom EQ, their bass can be EQ’ed for a super punchy and extremely deep style with, even, a mild rumble.

Mids & Vocals

The mids of the Meze 99 Classics are warm but not too congested, making their male vocals alive and never distant. Higher mids offer crispness and sound clear while not falling into forward nor harsh peaks.

Overall, their mids are very pleasant to listen providing a nicely balanced sound with a gentle approach and charming warmth.

Using an EQ, their lower mids and male vocals can be cleared up, gaining much more presence and removing any trace of congestion. Higher mids can be pushed for some extra crispness without getting harsh.

Highs of the Meze 99 Classics have the right quantity of brightness and resolve a noticeable amount of detail for relaxed, pleasing listening sessions yet offering a sparkly and entertaining sound.

Their highs follow the style of their mids with an agreeable, non-fatiguing sound yet not recessed.

With an EQ, a phenomenal amount of brightness is incorporated while noticeable extra detail is revealed and a general, distinct, opening up of their highs shows up.
