Razer Kraken 7.1 V2, a gaming headphone from the giant company specialized in gaming products.

The Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 features 50 mm dynamic drivers, neodymium magnets, virtual 7.1 surround. Razer Chroma lighting effects and Discord certification.

The cups of the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 are very large and deep, offering a perfectly over-ear fit.

The back plate of the cups hold the Razer Chroma lighting that can be personalized – we have reviewed another gaming headphone that offers a similar lighting system, the Xiaomi Mi Gaming Headphone YXEJ01JY / Xiaomi Gaming Headset.

As the name suggests the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 are the second generation of the line. Among the new design modifications you will find larger oval-shaped pads and bigger 50mm drivers.

The new pads have an outer diameter of 99.5mm in comparison to 98mm of the previous models and an inner dimensions of 70mm x 60mm instead of 56mm x 56mm on older models.

Moreover, this new pads have a very advanced design with a 4 layers construction that includes a heat-transfer fabric layer, a cooling-gel layer, an eyewear relief layer and a memory foam main support/layer.

The Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 has a rugged look and build thanks to the all metal construction and quality components.

The cable has a single-sided design, is rounded, thick and reinforced by a braided construction – the plug connection makes use of USB connectors.

Said so, this is not a music listening headphone and it should not be expected to perform like other standard music headphones in areas such as Bass, Sub-Bass, Mids, Vocals, Highs and Treble.

Bass & Sub Bass

The Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 bass is crazily powerful with massive punch and depth.

Mid-bass and sub-bass are so powerful that rumble and impact can be felt without even having to apply any EQ.

This huge bass response makes the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 a super fun headphone for thrilling gaming sessions and even for basshead/bassy listening sessions where intense bass is wanted.

Applying an EQ, their mid-bass and sub-bass get insanely powerful with an all-time rumble and impact vibrating on your ears and cheekbones (medium-mild).

Mids & Vocals

The Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 mids are super warm and full-bodied due to the massive bass response bleeding into their midrange.

For music listening, the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2’s sound tuning might interfere with male vocals and lower mids adding congestion but for gaming this sound signature might be appreciated by their users because of a vivacious and adventurous sound experience.

Higher mids are rolled-off, smooth and gentle with no harshness nor disturbing peaks. Once again, their higher mids might not offer the clearest experience for refined music listening sessions but will be a welcomed featured by gamers due to the free-of-harsh peaks highs.

With an EQ lower mids and lower vocals clear up, with some reduction of mid-bass bleed but it is still impossible to fully cancel it.

Higher mid frequencies can be pushed for a bit of additional crispness without getting harsh.

Highs & Treble

The Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 highs resolve a good amount of detail and have a dark-tending style.

Sound is not overly muddy but it is noteworthy that they are, certainly, not a bright sounding headphone.

Some moderate sibilance might show up from time to time (on sibilant prone tracks) but piercing highs are not a recurring issue with the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2.

Similar to their mids tuning, their highs are not ideally tuned for music listening but well-thought for gamers that will prefer non-fatiguing sound for long lasting gaming sessions over an audiophile-grade headphone tuned for music listening.

An EQ makes their highs unexpectedly brighter and very detailed. Sibilance will get stronger but piercing peaks will not show up.

Sound Leak

The sound leaking out of the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 is substantially stronger than many average headphones almost seeming a semi-open headphone.

Despite this higher-than-average leaking and the perforated back plates that may suggest an open-back design, the Razer Kraken 7.1 v2 is a closed-back design but with many features of semi-open headphones.

Hardcore gamers will probably not care about the leakage as they will be deeply concentrated in their gaming performance and will even benefit from the wider spatial effect and improved sound localization.

Sound Isolation

The sound isolation provided by the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 is fairly good but not extreme if used at moderate-low volume settings.

If a stronger isolation is wanted it is recommended to crank up the volume at will.

Comfort

The clamping force of the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 is well-tuned for a pain-free but stable fit while the advanced 4-layered design of the pads combined with the large size and very generous padding result in a deliciously comfortable experience.

The large and profound cups ensure no issues of ears touching the inner surface nor getting fatigued.

Response to Equalization

The response to every EQ applied by our team was significantly efficient to improve the clarity of the sound over mids and highs but do not expect an extreme makeover of their sound signature. Regarding bass, the Razer Kraken 7.1 v2 showed an insane empowering with a custom EQ.
