🎧 We are reviewing the Jays u-JAYS, an on-ear headphone with personality and unexpected sound quality.
The Jays u-JAYS features custom drivers with Japanese Silk-diaphragm and vent holes that make use of acoustic tuning filters distributed 360° around the driver.
Jays is a brand with a reputable experience and a large number of happy owners of their in-ear headphones, the Jays u-JAYS are part of their on-ear models and, specifically, from the U series.
Some famous earphones from the brand include the:
The headband of the Jays u-JAYS is made of steel, like the whole structure of the headphone. Still, users will feel and see a rubberized finish on top of the metal core components – the cups are made of plastic.
The pads are larger than many on-ear headphones while the cups can lay fully flat and offer wide tilting and rotational movements. At the same time, the headband extends smoothly but remains firm in any position set.
The Jays u-JAYS has a detachable cable with a 3-button remote/mic and dedicated volume buttons. This makes the u-JAYS compatible with Android, iOS and Windows but you will have to choose the desired compatibility while buying the headphone.
The compatibility is limited by the cable and not the unit itself, therefore a simple cable replacement makes it fully compatible with any device – this can be also seen on many other headphones such as the BOSE QuietComfort 25. Nonetheless, the headphone will work with a cable that does not correspond to the device (for example, iOS cable model used with an Android device); the remote functions will be the only feature that will not work.

Accessories & Packaging
The Jays u-JAYS unboxing results in the 3-button detachable cable, a pair of removable ear pads and a carrying pouch/bag.
The headphone comes in a beautiful packaging that is robustly built and attractively designed with clean aesthetics.
Bass & Sub Bass
The Jays u-JAYS has a well-rounded bass with good punch and sufficiently deep sub-bass as to fulfill any track’s requirements.
Their bass is not tuned to be a basshead sounding headphone but their lower end is energetic enough to cover nearly all genres.
Expect a balanced bass style with a fun seasoning that does not get overdone nor invasive.
These will be great news for listeners looking for a cleaner sound over a bass-centered one.
Applying an EQ, there is an important addition of sub-bass depth but not as much mid-bass empowering.

Mids & Vocals
Mids on the Jays u-JAYS have very clear male vocals, alive and present, still warm and inviting and not thin nor boxy at all.
The higher midrange offers a very pleasant balance between crispness and non-fatiguing sound.
Overall their mids are clear, warm, cozy and a pleasure to listen to.
An EQ can make vocals gain more importance and reduce some of their mid-bass up to give their midrange a bit more of a distinct sound – just not overdo it to avoid boxy sound introduction.
Highs & Treble
The overall highs of the Jays u-JAYS resolve a nice amount of detail and offer a agreeable quantity of brightness, their highs are not too recessed but do start to roll-off on the upper end.
To their benefit, this high’s style assures fatigue-free sound with no piercing nor sibilant peaks (mild sibilance can arise with extremely sibilant tracks).
Similar to their midrange, their overall style is gentle and very enjoyable to listen – even treble sensitive people will like them.
With an EQ there is a remarkable bump in their overall sound quality with a much more open sound, brighter highs and additional detail without empowering piercing peaks.
The sound leaking out of the Jays u-JAYS is significantly lower than many average headphones. This on-ear headphone will be perfectly usable on most normal situations without disturbing anybody nearby.

On-ear headphones are not as well-adapted as over-ear headphones when considering sound isolation.
Nonetheless, the Jays u-JAYS perform way better that most on-ear headphones making them a contender to over-ear headphones on this subject and providing a very efficient isolation from surrounding noises without having to crank up the volume much.

The Jays u-JAYS offer an outstanding fit for an on-ear headphone, if the pads would have been a bit larger they could had been considered an over-ear headphone.
In addition to this, they have a light weighted but solid, durable build with good construction materials that feel rugged, yet provide a nice touch feel.
The ear cushions are easily replaceable and removable with a simple twist and unlock/lock – this is a welcomed feature that can extend the life of the headphone.
It is fair to remind that this is an on-ear headphone and not an over-headphone so the pads will sit on the ears and not around them and some fatigue could be generated after prolonged sessions.
