TAKSTAR PRO 82
| Over-Ear | 40 mm Driver | Neodymium Magnet | Bass Control |
? TAKSTAR PRO 82, the flagship, over-ear headphone from TAKSTAR.
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 features 40 mm dynamic drivers, neodymium NdFeB magnets, a bass level control switch and detachable cables.
Sometimes the TAKSTAR PRO 82 can be found as TAKSTAR INPING PRO 82, this is not a naming error. The double name comes from the fact that this headphone has been manufactured with a collaboration between both brands.
TAKSTAR and INGPING are 2 brands that usually work together to develop many audio products, in fact long time ago we reviewed a popular in-ear headphone from them, the TAKSTAR INGPING H60.
Many might not know TAKSTAR but they are a brand that specializes in audio products at very friendly prices.
Other popular products from the brand are:
- TAKSTAR PRO 80 – Predecessor of the TAKSTAR PRO 82 that captured the attention of the budget-conscious audiophiles (like the SAMSON SR850)
- Takstar WPM-200 – wireless audio receiver
The cups of the TAKSTAR PRO 82 are large and have enough depth as to be classified an over-ear headphone.
The headband is made of metal and plastic, with the metal reinforcement adding durability. The headband extension has clicky positions and a fluid movement for easy adjustment.
The cups have a main section constructed in metal while the outer section and the hinges are made of plastic.

Accessories & Packaging
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 unboxing results in a detachable single-sided cable with a 2.5mm-3.5mm connector, 1x 1/4” to 3.5mm adapter, 1x soft carrying pouch; 1x hard premium case.
It is noteworthy to highlight the quality of case that TAKSTAR is including for free with the TAKSTAR PRO 82, which is surprising that the brand is able to giveaway one with a headphone of such an affordable price.
The whole package comes inside a standard-sized headphone box.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 has a special feature dedicated to bass: a bass level adjustment switch. This switch has 3 positions with three different bass intensities: Off, Medium, Strong.
As the model offers this 3 bass intensity controls, we have tested it in every one of the 3 “modes”.
B
Bass & Sub Bass
Bass Off
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 bass has good punch but does not get too deep. On normally bassy tracks, the TAKSTAR PRO 82 will have no bass shortage but will not be well-adapted for EDM and basshead tracks.
Nonetheless, this less-boosted bass style gives them a non-invasive and clean sound.
Applying an EQ for intense bass, the TAKSTAR PRO 82 adds a bit of extra punch but sub-bass can start to distort (an EQ looking for this should be applied on mode 2/Strong)
7.75/10
Bass On – Medium
When the bass level adjustment is switched to their “Medium” level, the mid-bass of the TAKSTAR PRO 82 becomes very punchy and sub-bass, now, does not lack depth.
This mode is well-adapted for more bassy tracks or listeners wanting a beefier and richer bass.
An EQ adds noticeable punch and some extra depth but as on the previous mode, their sub-bass can start to distort.
7.75/10
Bass On – Strong
When switched to the “Strong” bass level position, their mid-bass punch becomes extremely intense but also very boomy while sub-bass gets noticeably deeper with a bass tuning much better capable of fulfilling the bass requirements of bass-intense tracks.
An EQ, on this mode, can push their strong bass response into an insane amount of mid-bass punch and sub-bass depth that even reaches some rumble and impact.

M
Mids & Vocals
Bass Off
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 mids have clean mids with little to marginal mid-bass bleed that does not congest their lower mids.
Male vocals are alive and clear with no distant nor recessed feel to them. Higher mids are crisp but not forward nor rolled-off.
At the same time, the TAKSTAR PRO 82 does not suffer from harshness.
Overall, their mids offer a phenomenal balance with a pleasant, clean and clear sound.
With an EQ, their lower midrange and male vocals can get impeccably clear and highs offer some extra crispness while not getting harsh.
8.5/10
Bass On – Medium
On this mode, mids gain a fuller sound with a warmer and more cozy style. The stronger bass also reflects into some mid-bass bleed that adds medium congestion to their lower and mid midrange.
Higher highs remain crisp and still free of harshness.
An EQ, makes their mids cleaner but it is preferably better to just use them in “Bass Off” mode than equalizing it on this mode.
7.75/10
Bass On – Strong
Due to a huge increment of bass, their mids fall apart in this mode. Bass get’s out of control and steps over all the low and middle mids; congestion and lack of separation between frequencies are, now, clear characteristics of their mids.
An EQ, can reduce some of their mid-bass bleed but, as mentioned above, users will get much cleaner mids by simply switching to the “Bass Off” mode.
5.5/10
H
Highs & Treble
Bass Off
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 highs are bright and detailed with a particularly open sound for a closed-back headphone – these are not a dark sounding headphone, at all.
Nonetheless, their highs are not excessively sharp nor fatiguing but might exhibit some sibilance on very sibilant-prone tracks.
An EQ reveals a monumental amount of detail, adding also brightness and an, overall, much more open sound personality.
8.5/10
Bass On – Medium
On this mode, bass starts to get out of control and step over, also, the highs personality of the TAKSTAR PRO 82. Detail will remain similar as on “Bass Off” but their clean and bright sound will get (perceptibly) congested and with a darkish tint.
An EQ will allow detail and brightness to show up back again.
7.75/10
Bass On – Strong
Similar to what happened with mids, the highs of the TAKSTAR PRO 82 loose all their excellent qualities on this mode.
Bass takes ownership of the sound signature, kills off their original highs openness and clear sound becoming now overly congested.
The starting point without an EQ is not an ideal place to try to equalize, as mentioned in the “Mids and Vocals” section, users will get much better results by simply switching the bass level control to any of the less boosted positions.
5.5/10
SL
Sound Leak
The sound leaking out of the TAKSTAR PRO 82 is less hearable than on many average closed-back headphones, when cranking the volume above moderate.
Still, they are not the silentest headphone that your money can buy and they will be heard by nearby people on quiet situations.

Sound Isolation
The sound isolation provided by the TAKSTAR PRO 82 is mostly partial with some awareness of the environment.
Nonetheless, dialing up the volume will make them much more efficient (regarding isolation) and can even reach an almost-absolute level.

C
Comfort
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 are highly comfortable over-ear headphones due to a combination of factors like: large earpads, secure but flexible clamping, soft cushion and padding on both the earmuffs and the headband.
Moreover, the overall weight of the TAKSTAR PRO 82 is unexpectedly light for a headphone of this size and even more considering that has some metal parts.
Another feature that adds to their comfort and daily usage are the detachable, single-sided cable, the tilting and rotational cups and the fact that they lay fully flat.

EQ
Response to Equalization
Bass Off
The response to EQ of the TAKSTAR PRO82 was outstandingly efficient on mids and highs but not so much for sub-bass.
9/10
Bass On – Medium
The response to EQ on this mode, helped clean up their lower mids, brighten up their highs and add much more punch to their mid-bass.
8.25/10
Bass On – Strong
The response to EQ on this mode, transformed their bass into a gigantically punchy and deep one with some rumble and impact.
