This FilaDryer models is a total joy for less tech-savy users or whom does not want to get through the tedious need of assembling their product before being able to use it.

In fact, the SUNLU FilaDryer S2 comes 100% preassembled from factory and does not need any manual assembly steps by the user.

Basically you plug the PSU to the unit and you are ready to get to work.

DESIGN

Some may argue that the general mechanical system of the S2 is kind of barebones but the simple and small form factor and design of this FilaDryer is a major positive characteristic that makes it even better than huge dryers.

We found the general aesthetics of the SUNLU FilaDryer S2, much nice and appealing than many other dyers that tend to look boring and too industrial. The S2, instead, looks stunning with a rounded ring light that runs all around a massive display; with both following the curved overall form factor style of the case.

The dryer has a semi translucent top half that is the lid, attached to the main shell through a hinge on the back. Instead the bottom main case is completely non-translucent.

At the very bottom, there are 4 protruding feet that are angled and are fixed in place – these are not adjustable nor removable.

As you can see, the unit is mainly black colored but a white version can sometimes be found in stock.

The chamber of the FilaDryer S2 has the capacity to hold just 1 spool of 1kg. If you were looking for a multi-filament dryer that can dry more than 1 spool at the same time, this one will not fit your needs and you should take a look at either the S4 or SP2.

DISPLAY SCREEN

On the front, the SUNLU FilaDryer S2 holds its characteristic, gorgeous and huge display screen; the display diagonal size is 4.6″ – would had loved to see a similar display on all other dryers from the brand that we have reviewed in the past.

The screen does not only have big and clear fonts but also has a more intuitive and better detailed explanation of each function and its readings.

On top of that, the humongous display is backlit.

OPERATION & CONTROL

As you might have seen from our photos, on the display of the FilaDryer S2 there is a row of 4 squares sitting above the website URL of the brand. These 4 “squares” are actually touch buttons that can be tapped on the display itself.

Following the intuitiveness of the overall UI, the touch controls are well labeled with arrows, “SET” and “On/Off” writings that clearly represent what each touch button does.

CONSTRUCTION & BUILD

As with most other FilaDryers, the S2 is essentially made of plastic on the outside.

In spite of the use of plastics, the device feels much better than its price might suggest.

If we had to point out a detail about the build, would be the opening system of the top lid that does not have any kind of gaskets nor locking mechanism.

PERFORMANCE

The SUNLU FilaDryer S2 has gained a fixed position as a spool holder replacement for one of our 3D printers, as the small size but with all the added features makes much more sense than a simple roller with the spool hanging and enabled the possibility of drying while printing without interfering without the workflow nor desk setup. Also, the FilaDryer was easy to adapt it to the orientation of the printers as it has 2 different filament outlets on the top lid, so we were able to choose the best one each time.

It is remarkable that the despite costing a fraction of the bigger siblings and having a significantly simpler design, the S2 can extend the temperature coverage up to 70°C and the same type of filaments than some of the more expensive models.

The airflow mechanism was noticeable more basic in comparison to others but from all the test prints that we did with old filaments that we dried with the FilaDryer S2; none showed signs of moisture nor the typical print flaws that come with them; thus, proving that the S2 was able to take care of the drying of the filaments.

POWER CONSUMPTION

Yet another surprising feature of this budget dryer is the fact that it can do the same job than bigger and more expensive dryers but with a power consumption that does not even reach 50W.
