| 10mm Dynamic Driver |
🎧 We are reviewing the KZ EDX, the latest budget single driver earphones from KZ.
The KZ EDX features one 10mm driver per side which is said to reach a range of 10-20000Hz.
Each earpiece is fully made of plastic with no metal no reinforced pieces; this time KZ fans will not get metal back plates like the models sitting above the EDX.
The cable has a bi-pin connection but does not uses the qdc design, instead is equipped with a more classic, recessed 2-pin port and plastic cable connector ends.
The KZ EDX is available either in black or white color and can be purchased with or without an inline 1-button remote/mic.

KZ EDX Review

The KZ EDX packaging is the same as every other affordable KZ earphones, a small and clean designed box that is more than 2 times smaller than the BLON BL05s packaging (another single driver, affordable earphone)
Inside, buyers will find 3 pair of eartips and the detachable bi-pin cable.

Bass of the KZ EDX feels and sound extremely similar to most of the latest earphones from KZ.
This means that the EDX is capable of providing a fun and inviting mid-bass to cover any track’s punchiness requirements but does not unleash a bass-monster that “eat’s up” the sound signature.
Similar to it’s mid-bass, sub-bass of the EDX is not overly emphasized and, in fact, is even less boosted than their mid and upper bass.
This lower end tuning allows it to become more versatile for a wider range of genres but it will not be the most adequate KZ for hardcore bassheads.
Applying an EQ, a palpable deepening of sub-bass can be obtained while, also, a much stronger punch can be reached – just try not to overdo it to avoid too much bounciness and congestion.

The midrange of the KZ EDX is warm but not overly busy, with a respectable control of it’s mid-bass bleed, for KZ – considering the single driver configuration and what KZ can achieve by the dependency of multi-drivers.
Despite the latter, it is fair to note that the EDX is, by any means, 100% free of congestion or mid-bass bleed.
The very upper end of the midrange might tend to sound more emphasized than it’s lower and middle mids; which makes it crisp on these ranges.
The KZ EDX does exhibit slight harshness on strong upper mid peaks but we consider it very acceptably tolerable on most occasions and inline with the harshness intensity of many recent KZ products – which makes it impressive for it’s value for money relation and for the resembling sound capability with more expensive KZ earphones.
With an EQ, the KZ EDX showed a good potential to clean up their lower mids and reduce congestion with, also, slight chances to reduce some harshness.
Despite the single dynamic driver, the KZ EDX is able to provide as much (and sometimes even more) brightness and detail than some multi-driver earphones from KZ.
The EDX will fulfill the needs of users on a budget looking for a bright and well-performing earphone with very little money.
Nonetheless, we find important highlighting that these 2 qualities (brightness and detail) do come at the price of sibilance and piercing peaks – on less “hot” tracks many users might not perceive them but they will arise on tracks prone to fatiguing peaks.
As said in the Mids/Vocals section, the KZ EDX presents a superb bang for buck with it’s cost/performance and ability to remain on a similar sound quality level as mid-tier and high-tier models from KZ.
We do not consider that an EQ would be needed to try to squeeze out additional brightness (fatiguing profile alert) but a EQ path aimed to control their spikes might help a slight bit – do not expect to fully remove them, though.
So far, the KZ EDX has shown a stellar performance for the asking price; when testing it’s leakage, though, the EDX proved to be “inferior” than many average headphones.
This makes the KZ EDX an earphone that will leak stronger sound than average and will become hearable whenever the sound settings are cranked up – mostly on less noisy situations.

The sound isolation reached by the EDX is significantly stronger than most average closed-back earphones.
An efficient partial passive isolation from the environment will be felt right away, without having to dial up too much the volume of your music listening sessions.

The KZ EDX uses shells and a form factor that have been recurrently seen on infinite number of models from the brand.
As we highlighted during our KZ ZAX review, this fact can feel a bit boring if you are KZ fan expecting an innovatively new design from the KZ EDX.
Yet, this grants the same level of extreme comfortness and stable fit that has been continuously proven with this form factor.
In addition to this, the EDX is particularly light weighted due to the all-plastic build and lower number of inner components; adding up to it’s comfort and extended usage capability.

With a respectably good baseline sound, the EDX showed also a responsive retuning potential with proper advanced EQ techniques.
The best EQ results were seen over lower mids and sub-bass while it’s upper frequencies did not respond as efficiently.
