“Clip” styled earbuds have been arising in the last 2 years and have been becoming more popular in the last year; SoundPeats has released some models already with this form factor (we have reviewed all of them) and seem to get better and better on each new iteration.

The SOUNDPEATS Clip1 shares a similar form factor and style of the SoundPeats POP Clip but with significant improvements in the fit and acoustic output positioning.

The new design allows the drivers and audio outlet to fall over and nearly inside the ear canals, thus technically gaining a vastly better acoustic design to provide better sound quality results – we will see after our testing and review if the SoundPeats Clip1 have improved in the sound department.

Regarding technical specs, the Clip1 is equipped with large dual-magnet 12mm dynamic drivers, touch sensitive back panels, auto sensors and compatibility with PeatsAudio mobile app for setting up and customizing the functions of the device.

Some nice details that we found on the SoundPeats Clip1 were features like auto-play/pause that sense when you put and remove the earbuds, responsive touch controls and a generous battery life of more or less 8 hours per charge (40 hours with the charges provided by the case)

Clip earbuds do not tend to come with many accessories and this is the case for the Clip1 as the unit comes just with a short USB-C cable as the included accessories.

Bass & Sub Bass

Unfortunately, and despite holding very large drivers, the Soundpeats Clip1 suffer from the typical issue of open-ear and clip earbuds, a lack of deepness and extension of lower frequencies.

To be fair with the Clip1, a bit of midbass is able to be delivered but it is nowhere near of what you can obtain with any in-ear and some modern earbuds too.

The range that shows the weaker performance is definitely sub-bass as very deep notes that extend over sub regions suffer from the steep roll-off, resulting in nearly mute notes.

Mids & Vocals

Warm but with a decent control of bass bleed in comparison with some other clip-styled headphones which allowed them to provide cozy mids and acceptably non-distant male vocals.

The upper mids showed a cleaner personality than the lower ranges with a pleasant balance that is able to present alive vocals that do not usually become shouty and neither are dull and recessed.

Congestion and bleed is more noticeable at lower volume settings and start to exponentially improve the higher the volume is set to.

Highs & Treble

In comparison with previous versions, the SoundPeats Clip1 has gained a better balanced high and treble with a fair amount of brightness to not be considered overly dark and muddy but neither being unbearably fatiguing – of course, do not expect the soundstage and detail of a monitor.

Consumers will greatly appreciate that piercing peaks are very hard to sense with the Clip1 but a tolerable amount of sibilance can be present on very sibilant-prone tracks.

Comfort

The light overall weight and brand-new ergonomic design of the arc and driver containing shells resulted in a clear improvement over older siblings and on some other competitors; where we found easier to fit them correctly, reducing the typical misplacement potential and also expanding the time that we were capable of wearing them before some traces of fatigue started to show up.
