? We are reviewing the KZ EDX PRO, the newest single driver earphone from KZ.
The KZ EDX PRO is a new version of the EDX line.
As a rule of thumb from KZ past, a PRO version does not necessarily means what the three letters might suggest, a more appropriate 3 letters word should be NEW.
We will test and evaluate if the PRO version of the EDX is still a capable model and a worthy upgrade from the non-PRO model.

Bass & Sub Bass
The EDX was a very good performer on the bass department; the EDX PRO inherits most of the bass qualities of the older sibling.
With a bass tuning capable of offering punchy and fun sound without overstepping the rest of the sound signature.
At the same time, the lower end of the EDX PRO will offer a way more versatile bass to cover a wider diversity of genres.

Mids & Vocals
With a pleasantly warm tint, the EDX PRO will please many listeners that search for an agreeable sound.
Moreover, the EDX PRO exhibits a balanced midrange that can offer a controlled congestion and distribution of the whole mids extension from lower to mid and upper midtones.
Upper mids will welcome listeners with crispness but acceptable harshness peaks, while lower mids offer a well-achieved cozy yet not overly busy sound.
A peculiarity of the KZ EDX PRO is the extreme ease of driving of its drivers, this means that this model can be used with an music player or device with no issues and the EDX PRO will respond with a huge maximum volume capacity.
This, though, might introduce an “issue” with some users, by the simple nature of volume-harshness and volume-fatiguing sound relation, a higher volume can easily overpower these 2 issues.
As a result, owners of the EDX PRO might push the limits of dB achievable by the EDX PRO and enhance both harshness and fatiguing peaks.

Highs & Treble
Exactly as the older non-PRO model, the EDX PRO shows a bright and fairly detailed sound with better performance than some multi-driver models from the same brand.
The bright and emphasized highs will introduce some hot peaks that will be subjectively tolerable (according to each listener´s sensibility to these ranges)

Comfort
Small and light weighted, the KZ EDX PRO reuse a casing form factor seen since the old times of the KZ ZST.
This design has always been (and still is) a very comfortable and efficient form factor that provides a comfortable and pain-free fit.

Response to Equalization
Most of the defects of the EDX PRO can be partially fixed with a complex EQ while a general retuning is also possible with a simple EQ path.

Summary

From our thorough testing we could discover that the EDX PRO is not just a renamed EDX model with an aesthetic facelift and a marketing PRO naming addition.
The EDX PRO instead brings to the table a slight bass retuning but maybe not worthy of a full renaming and relaunch as a different model.
If you do not own an EDX, the EDX PRO might be a better looking alternative; for EDX owners, the EDX PRO might not offer a drastic difference as to "upgrade"
