Before getting any further through the AULA WIN68 HE review, we find fundamental to underline that the AULA WIN68 HE exists in 2 versions, the AULA WIN68 HE and the AULA WIN68 HE MAX; the specific model that we are reviewing is the AULA WIN68 HE MAX, which is the flagship variant of the 2.

The AULA WIN68 HE MAX has a 65% layout with 68 keys and no knobs nor display screen but it includes a strap/ribbon that can be attached to the dedicated section of the case that is found on the upper left corner – a detail about this strap is that it does not come assembled from factory and you will have to do it on your own.

Aesthetically, the AULA has an all-black case combined with a very special keycaps set design and theme combining black and red colors.

On the bottom you will find 4 pill-alike rubberized feet but you will not get adjustable kickstands.

The AULA WIN68 HE is available in 4 different colors, 3 for the HE MAX model and 1 for the HE (non-MAX),

By now you might have understand already that the AULA WIN68 HE MAX has magnetic switches but what you could not imagine is that at this price point, the board is hot-swappable and allows the replacement of the switches with other compatible hall-effect switches.

On the other hand, it is fair to highlight that the case is fully made of plastic and also the fact that the keys do wobble a bit, mostly noticeable if you own some other premium keyboards – if you come from popular mainstream brands, the AULA keys actually wobble less than them.

Thanks to the small size and weight that does not even reach 1kg (700 grams to be precise), the AULA WIN68 HE MAX is a very good companion for portability.

KEYCAPS

If you get the same color and variant as we are reviewing, then you will get the most special keycaps set of all the available models of the WIN68 HE.

These keycaps have a side-printed design with no printed fonts on the top face of the keycaps body; with this design, the keys get backlit illuminated by the south-facing RGB LEDs of the board with the fonts looking towards the user.

We have reviewed plenty of keyboards with side-printed keycaps but these on the AULA also pack a nice color and pattern design, making them even more unique.

From our understanding all other variants of the WIN68 HE include classic PBT keycaps but these side-printed ones feel as they might be made of cheaper ABS or with a thinner amount of PBT at least.

As a tendency for modern AULA and competitors keyboards, you might think that the AULA WIN68 HE MAX is a keyboard with a tri-mode wired/wireless design; but this is not the case as the WIN68 HE are wired-only keyboards without any wireless connectivity nor internal batteries.

On the other hand, the AULA WIN68HE MAX reaches a whopping polling rate of 8000Hz, making it a gaming king when even considering that is packed with magnetic switches – of course, anti-ghosting, NKRO are supported.

SOUND

If you are a hardcore keyboard enthusiast and own several mechanical keyboards with premium thock sound, then you might be disappointed by the sound performance of the AULA.

Hall-effect keyboards usually are not the perfect competitor against thocky mechanical keyboards and the AULA WIN68HE MAX follows this tendency with a sound signature that is way far away from thock and more inline with a clicky clacky sound and something feeling a bit hollow.
