Periodic Audio Be Beryllium – Review

Periodic Audio Beryllium

Periodic Audio Be Beryllium

| Beryllium Dynamic Driver | Neodymium N48H |

? Periodic Audio Be Beryllium, the flagship earphone from the brand.

The Periodic Audio Be Beryllium is placed as the top-tier model from the brand, sitting right above the Periodic Audio Mg and the Periodic Audio Ti.

The model name corresponds to the material used for it’s diaphragm, in this case Beryllium. To be more precise, the diaphragm has a 100% pure beryllium foil with a PEEK surround bonded to it.

Design-wise, the Periodic Audio Be has a simple and straightforward build with a classic bullet-type form factor and non-detachable cables.

Nonetheless, the construction materials are rugged and have a nice feel while the back plate carries a good-looking metal back plate with golden color.

On the nozzle’s tip you will see grid/filters that are colored differently depending on the side, the right one is red and the left one is black -this is the only indicator for the earpiece’s side.

The brand includes frequency response curves of the model on the packaging itself, which is a nice and transparent decision by the company. According to our measurements, Periodic Audio informs very accurate frequency response charts that are truly measured from the model itself and do not “hand draw” their curves as many Asian budget companies do.

A

Accessories & Packaging

The Periodic Audio Be Beryllium unboxing results in 3 pair of foam tips, 3 single-flange tips, 3 double flange tips, a 1/4” to 3.5mm adapter, a flight adapter and a rounded, metal case.

The packaging itself might not have the most rugged construction but we loved it’s originality and measurement graphs shown, yet we felt like a chimpanzee unboxing it trying to figure out how to open it without having to break it. It is a pity to see a nice packaging being torn apart – we are still in doubt if we opened it correctly. This is the same for the Periodic Audio Mg and the Periodic Audio Ti.

B

Bass & Sub Bass

The Periodic Audio Be Beryllium low end is fun and energetic with a punchy profile and deep sub-bass response but not overly exaggerated.

Their lower frequencies will fulfill the requirements of any music genre without any issues and, yet, will not become a bass-only earphone.

This allows the Be to provide a full and agreeable bass without getting bloated nor unbearably drowning.

Applying an EQ, there is a very important deepening of their sub-bass and a much punchier response.

Through our extreme bass tests, the Periodic Audio Be handled up to 45% of the maximum power coming from a FiiO A5 amplifier with a massive empowerment of mid-bass and sub-bass but no significant basshead rumble and impact like the Sony MDR-EX800st, Pioneer SE-CX8, Pioneer SE-CX9 or even the Sony MDR-EX650.

M

Mids & Vocals

The Periodic Audio Be Beryllium conserves a warm-styled personality that the brand shown in the Periodic Audio Mg and Periodic Audio Ti models.

Despite the aforementioned, the flagship Periodic Audio Be shows less emphasized mid-bass bleed which remains much more under control in comparison to the other 2 models, allowing it’s midrange to sound warm, cozy and full but not overly congested.

Higher mids are crisp and clear, yet do not fall into harshness.

Listeners looking to emphasize their lower vocals and reduce some of it’s mid-bass bleed will be able to achieve this with a fairly simple EQ or standard EQ.

Highs & Treble

The Periodic Audio Be Beryllium highs resolve an agreeable amount of detail and provide pleasant brightness thanks to their non-forward tuning.

Expect a highs personality able to provide full and warm sound without getting too dark nor turning into a over-fatiguing sounding earphone.

An EQ can bump up their brightness and detail capabilities with significant and very noticeable results.
