The EPOMAKER Brick 87 is a TKL mechanical keyboard with 88 keys and dual encoders.
As you can see from our photos the version of the EPOMAKER Brick 87 that we are reviewing is the translucid one.
If you buy this variant, you will get a frosted black semi-translucid main shell and frosted transparent keycaps.
The most special design elements of this keyboard are a back edge with a male brick (LEGO) strip that allows to stack any compatible LEGO pieces. As LEGO is a powerful building platform you can use it simply to snap a little LEGO guy or to be creative and create any shape, design that you want with LEGO bricks.
Moreover, the keyboard has a 45 degree inclined case/shell shape over the whole row of F numbers. At first sight it might seem a trivial design decision but we have to admit that we are digging the inclined F number row section as it adds an ergonomic advantage over standard flat ones, facilitating the reach with less effort and needing to stretch less the hands.
Also, the dual large encoders placed below the spacebar have become more intuitive and less workflow-disrupting to reach and use than knobs placed on the extreme corners of the case.
On top of that, this inclined design gives it almost an operation console feel like in a TV broadcast center or aircraft control tower.
On the top right, the keyboard has 3 status lights that give a quick info of elements such as the active connection mode.

Internally, the keyboard presents a hot-swappable board compatible with 3-pin & 5-pin switches without soldering and high-quality components such as a steel plate, prelubed switches, prelubed stabilizers.
Despite not being specified by the brand, the EPOMAKER Brick 87, for sure, has more than one layer of dampening materials as the sound profile of the keyboard is inline with many gasket-mounted and multi-dampening layered designs.
The dual encoder bars are made of metal but due to the long body and being supported over a PC case, they could be the Achille’s Talon of the keyboard if they get bent.

Among all color variants of the EPOMAKER Brick 87, we can easily say that the keycaps of the black EPOMAKER Brick 87 are the most special, due to their translucent build.
To be more specific, the keycaps are not 100% translucent as seen on the LEOBOG K81, instead the EPOMAKER’s have a black and partially frosted finish.
The bottom of the keyboard, right below the spacebar holds 2 rotary encoder bars with a plastic divider. The bars have a style and flavor that recalls the bars from some Razer keyboards and offer both tactile and subtle clicky feedback per notch.
By default, the left bar controls volume and the right one is used for the brightness of the RGB backlights.

When buying the EPOMAKER Brick 87 you will have the option to choose 4 different switches:

• Epomaker Wisteria Linear Switch
We have tested and reviewed all 4 switches and think that the brand has done a smart selection of switches variants as all of them are excellent.
On the other hand, if you like clicky or silent switches, these are all linear switches with different flavors.
The model of the EPOMAKER Brick 87 that we are reviewing comes with the Epomaker Wisteria linear switches and we could not be happier about this as the Wisteria are our favorite switches among the 4 given options.

The EPOMAKER Brick 87 is a tri-mode keyboard, meaning that it can be used in 3 different connection modes. These 3 include one wired through a detachable USB-C cable and 2 wireless modes (a 3-slot Bluetooth connection and a 2.4G wireless with the included dongle)
Unlike other keyboards, the Brick 87 has separate switches for power on/off and connection mode selection.
The power on/off switch is placed on the left edge of the case and the 3-position connection mode switch sits on the right edge of the shell – both switches are very small and stealthy yet they are easy to find thanks to a color-accent.

Also, the dual encoders, wireless connection and excellent switches add up to the efficiency of the EPOMAKER Brick 87.

As a portable keyboard to use with mobile devices, the Brick 87 can be fairly competent thanks to its Bluetooth connectivity and sufficient battery size.
On the other hand, the TKL layout and steel plate will make it larger and heavier than a slim, low-profile or 60% keyboard.

The use of a semi-translucent frosted case and keycaps combined with the south-facing RGB LED lights of the board, result in a noticeably more flashy and embellished light effect than standard keyboards.
All light presets will benefit from a much more efficient illumination of the board and keycaps.
On the other hand, when brightness is set to the max. you will lose the visibility of the printed fonts on the keycaps as the backlight coming through the transparent keycaps will have a “blinding” effect.

SOUND

The EPOMAKER Brick 87 with Wisteria linear switches offered clean sound without showing traces of pinging, hollow nor echo issues. You can expect a sound profile with a marbly-thocky flavor.
On top of that, the stabilizers come well-lubed from factory showing excellent performance with smooth and fluid travel and no rattling.

BATTERY

The keyboard has an internal battery with a capacity of 3000mAh; if you have the translucid version of the Brick 87, you could had wished that it had a bigger battery, as you will want to keep the backlight RGB LED turned on most of the time.
