🎧 We are reviewing the Plextone X46M, some gorgeously looking earphones with detachable cables and metal housings. We have reviewed other Plextone earphones in the past, with their ultra budget price and their great overall performance convinced us to try the Plextone X46M and see how they can perform. Our previously reviewed Plextone earphones, the Plextone X41M and Plextone X50M, showed a jaw-dropping extreme amplification making them gain a place on the top positions of the charts of the Best Basshead Earphones.
Plextone is a brand that you might not heard before but they have a huge amount and variety of earphones and headphones manufactured under their belt and almost every time their earphones have outstanding designs and build quality materials, adding to this the brand offers some of the best budget earphones prices on the market.
The Plextone X46M make honor to the brand having a beautiful design and add the great feature of having detachable cables.
The housings are solidly built with metal materials and feel like they could handle any beating without dropping a drop of sweat. The design of the housings reminded us to the Songful F2 that we have reviewed some time ago. Cables are detachable and use the same connection that you have already seen in the past on our QKZ W1 Pro / Fonge W1 Pro review.
Cable style and design resembles greatly to the cable of many of the KZ earphones like the KZ ATE, KZ ZST, KZ ED12, KZ EDR2, KZ ZS2. Within the cable there is an inline microphone and a 1-button control that is very comfortable to press and allows you to play/pause, skip tracks and answer/reject calls.
You can buy the Plextone X46M in: silver with black details or in gold with black details as the one that we own.

Accessories & Packaging
Packaging is basic and standard; a small cardboard box with 2 extra eartips and a cable clip, a straight plug adapter and the detachable cables.
Bass & Sub Bass
The Plextone X46M have a bass response with more sub-bass than mid-bass but still none of them is too strong.
When equalizing, there is an increase in mid-bass punch and a stronger enhancement of sub-bass depth.
Under our extreme bass tests the Plextone X41M took up to 50% of a Fiio E12 amplifier maximum power but the usable real maximum range was up to 37% as above it and up to 50% the left earpiece was showing a very high degree of distortion. The results of the extreme test were an exponential increase in sub-bass and mid-bass, up to the 37% limit there was no basshead impact reaching the 50% amplification power they were able to provide some basshead impact and rumble similar to the KZ ATE but somewhat below them. Despite the even bigger dynamic driver than the Plextone X41M and Plextone X50M they did not achieve any impact worthy to sit near their brothers on the Best Basshead Earphones Chart.

Mids & Vocals
The mids of the Plextone X46M are recessed, lower mids are distant and vocals sound laid back, higher mids are not harsh. With an EQ, lower mids become less distant but vocals sound boxy and higher mids sound harsh.
Highs & Treble
The highs of the Plextone X46M lack brightness and detail, they are not very piercing nor sibilant. Applying an EQ, their highs slightly clear up remaining free of sibilance but piercing highs become a bit stronger.
The sound that leaks out of Plextone X46M can be perceived on many situations but if low volumes are used almost no sound will leak. On mediumly noisy places sound leaking could blend with ambient noises.
Surrounding noises get reduced but unless high volume levels are used the isolation will not be too strong, obviously this could be a positive aspect if you need to have a partial hearing of your environment.
The Plextone X46M fit securely and comfortably inside the ears with no major issues and can be easily handled and grabbed with the fingers. Long listening sessions can be done with them without discomfort or pain. They share size and build quality similar to the Elephone E1, Songful F2, KZ EDR2, KZ ED9, Vots J1, Plextone X50M or the Xiaomi Mi Quantie Pro Hybrid.
Response to Equalization
The Plextone’s showed an average response to the custom equalizations that we applied. Bass was one of the best, showing positive response with a noticeable increase of mid-bass punch and sub-bass depth; mids and vocals improved removing some of their lower mids recession but harsh higher mids and boxy vocals became a problem; highs marginally improved but a bit more of piercing highs were introduced.
