Oriolus Finschi
| Knowles Balanced Armature | 10mm Dynamic Driver |
? Oriolus Finschi, an entry-level model from the brand with hybrid drivers.
The housings of the Oriolus Finschi are handmade, like many custom IEM. Inside the earpieces, the Oriolus Finschi features a dual hybrid driver configuration with a Knowles balanced armature driver (in theory) and a 10mm dynamic driver.
The Oriolus Finschi has a 0.78mm bi-pin detachable, copper & silver plated cable but the cable connection is so tight that most probably buyers will not realize that their cables can be detached – we would say that they are excessively tight.
The 3.5mm plug, cable bifurcation and bi-pin connectors end have golden colored, metal details mixed with plastic. The headphone jack has an L-shape while the 2-pin connectors are straight.
The overall weight of the Finschi is very light with their feather-heavy earpieces and their particularly light cables – weight-wise relating with other models such as the FiiO FA1 and way lighter than the:
The Oriolus Finschi is not a very easy model to find as the brand is not as commercially popular such as Sennheiser, AKG
, Sony
, Bose
, JBL
, Bowers & Wilkins
but there are some possibilities for international buyers looking to get one, like at Xtenik.

A
Accessories & Packaging
The Oriolus Finschi unboxing results in an unexpectedly wide amount of accessories with 3 pair of silicone eartips, 3 pair of foam tips, a pair of double flange eartips, a cleaning brush and an outstanding waterproof and shockproof case (rubber gaskets grant a safe waterproof containment)
The size and the kind of packaging containing the unit does not suggest this quantity of accessories inside.

B
Bass & Sub Bass
The Oriolus Finschi has powerful bass with plenty punch and a very deep response.
Nonetheless, these are not the typical bass-only sounding earphone, instead they are able to provide a rich and very energetic sound without drowning the whole sound signature.
Still is worth to highlight that a very punchy and deep bass should be expected; the Finschi are no conservative-sounding headphones but are fast for a model with such a visceral bass response.
Applying an EQ, a crazy sub-bass depth can be obtained with, also, substantial increment of it’s punch but the most drastic effect will be over it’s sub-bass.
Through out our extreme basshead tests the Oriolus Finschi managed to take up to 45% of a FiiO A5 amp’s maximum power, reaching a fair basshead rumble and impact but not providing the insane levels of the Sony MDR-EX800ST
, Pioneer SE-CX8
nor as the Sony MDR-EX650
.

M
Mids & Vocals
The Oriolus Finschi mids have warm and full mids but with a clean sound personality.
Their male vocals are alive, never distant nor laid-back with, also a lower midrange that does not suffer from strong congestion.
Moreover, their higher mids are clear and offer good crispness without getting excessively harsh.
With an EQ, the Finschi can be efficiently retuned. If done carefully, any mid-bass presence will be removed obtaining a much cleaner midrange but if overdone some boxiness will be added.

H
Highs & Treble
The Oriolus Finschi highs are bright and substantially capable of resolving detail.
If we get nitpicky, there are some other models in this price range that can resolve more detail – yet, the Finschi are far from being a detail-less IEM.
Despite the competent brightness, these headphones do not exhibit torturing piercing peaks nor very frequent sibilance – still to highlight that sibilance can show up and might get somewhat hot when it does.
An EQ can help retune their highs for a more upfront sound with a brighter but also more fatiguing sound. In addition to this, a much more detailed sound will be revealed.

SL
Sound Leak
The sound leaking out is substantially more hearable than most average headphones but they do not leak as much as an open-back headphone.
Use in silence-demanded places is not advised with the Oriolus Finschi.

Sound Isolation
The sound isolation provided by the Oriolus Finschi is stronger than many normal earphones with an efficient reduction of the awareness of the environment, even at moderate volume settings.

C
Comfort
The small and curvy earpieces grant a painless fit and an outstandingly comfortable experience that enables long lasting listening sessions without worries.
Moreover, the end of the cables have a “pre-molded” hook form that goes around and above the ears, reinforcing their secure and tight fit in the ears – as you can appreciate from our photo below of the Finschi, the right earpiece has a red dot to easily identify it.

Response to Equalization
The response to EQ of the Oriolus Finschi showed important improvement over their midrange, vocals, brightness and detail retrieval with no issues – if custom EQs are correctly applied.
