CCA C16 – Review

| 8x Balanced Armature Drivers |

🎧 We are reviewing the CCA C16, the most affordable 8-driver headphone to date.

The CCA C16 features a total of 16 balanced armature drivers, 8 inside each earpiece and a 3D printed support for all the drivers.

The drivers packed inside are: 4x 22955 for bass frequencies, 4x 29689 for mid frequencies, 8×30095 for highs and treble – most of these are balanced armature drivers that could be seen on the:

The housings of the CCA C16 are made of plastic but hold a metallic back plate and offer a robust construction quality despite the materials chosen for their build.

The cable of the CCA C16 has a helix design and bi-pin connectors with metal ends – the aesthetics are pretty much the same as the latest CCA and KZ headphones.

Form factor, shape and size of the CCA C16 is the exact same of the KZ AS10 and KZ AS06 – and by the “exact same” we do not mean “similar”, they are photocopies.

On the other hand, the aesthetics and build materials are different. The CCA C16 does not have any translucent part on their housings and the back plate is made of metal, instead of plastics – like the CCA C10, KZ ZSN PRO, KZ ZSN.

You can buy the CCA C16 in only one color option, blue.

Accessories & Packaging

The CCA C16 unboxing results in 3 pair of eartips and the detachable cable. Everything comes inside a small, rectangular box with a minimal and clean design.

Bass & Sub Bass

The CCA C16 has punchy and deep bass but is not too boosted nor out of control – we wouldn’t define it as super precise but fairly tight.

Their, overall, lower frequencies can offer a fun, full-sounding experience without stepping over their whole sound signature nor drowning their midrange.

Expect a bass tuned with a tendency to cover energetic listening sessions but capable of sounding sufficiently balanced for “normal” tracks.

Applying an EQ, much deeper sound can be unleashed with, also, a punchier profile.

Mids & Vocals

The CCA C16 has warm mids but with alive male vocals that do not sound laid back nor overly congested.

Some mid-bass bleed can show up adding a slight layer of congestion over the lower end of their mids – only when mid-bass gets intense.

Their upper midrange is crisp but does not get forward not particularly harsh.

Expect a midrange with a warm personality but no muddy sound issues.

With an EQ, lower mids and male vocals can be, exceptionally, cleaned up with a remarkable reduction of mid-bass bleed but without loosing their warmth.

Highs & Treble

The CCA C16 highs offer a pleasant amount of brightness and a fairly detailed sound.

Expect a highs and treble response able to fulfill most listening sessions with an agreeable sound that can provide a good balance between, brightness, detail and somewhat tolerably piercing peaks – the Achilles heel: their sibilance.

An EQ provide a groundbreaking makeover of their highs, with a way brighter and more open sound but that will also get much more fatiguing.

Sound Leak

The sound leaking out of the CCA C16 is more or less inline with most average earphones. This means that they will be hearable by nearby people when the volume is set above moderate but will usually blend in during normally noisy situations.

Sound Isolation

The sound isolation provided by the CCA C16 is very efficient and substantially above many normal headphones.

Absolute isolation is within the capabilities of the CCA C16 by, simply, cranking up the volume.

Despite the fairly large size, the CCA C16 is a very comfortable earphone, with no sharp edges. Their curvy shapes grant no fatigue problems nor sections puncturing the ears.

As a reference, the CCA C16’s housings have the exact same shape and size as the KZ AS10 and KZ AS06.
