? ACZ KR06-6, a triple hybrid driver headphone from ACZ.

We got the ACZ KR06-6 without much information about the brand, in fact this is the first time that we ever heard about the brand but the advanced configuration and friendly price made us take the risk.

The ACZ KR06-6 features 2 balanced armatures, 1 dynamic driver, detachable MMCX cables and braided cables.

The ACZ KR06-6 are triple driver earphones, configuration similar to other very popular and well-performing models such as:

The ACZ KR06-6 unboxing results in 3 pair of eartips and a semi-hard carrying case. Everything is packed inside a simple and small cardboard box.

Bass & Sub Bass

The ACZ KR06-6 bass offers punch to cover many genres but does not get very deep. The ACZ KR06 provide enough mid-bass to not sound “bassless” but might sound a bit dry to some. To their benefit, they will welcome listeners with bass response that is not invasive and that leaves space for mids and highs without interfering.

Applying an EQ can be useful to add depth and some extra punch to their bass. The additional depth is noticeable, still do not expect a bassy makeover.

During our extreme bass tests the ACZ KR06-6 were able to handle 32% of the maximum power of a Fiio E12 amplifier while being set to high gain and with bass boost turned on; a custom basshead EQ was used.

This amplification and equalization gave the ACZ KR06-6 an important increment of mid-bass punch and sub-bass depth but were miles away from the baseline level of the KZ ATE, Xiaomi Mi Pro HD or  the Monoprice 8320, Elecom EHP-CA3580, Xiaomi Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro or the Sony MDR-EX650, Pioneer SE-CX7 and Pioneer SE-CX8.

Mids & Vocals

The ACZ KR06-6 mids present nearly zero mid-bass bleed, lower mids do not sound congested at all. Instead, their mids are clear from lower mids up to upper mids but lower vocals can sound a bit overpowered by their highs. Higher mids usually do not get too harsh unless their peaks are very near to highs/treble ranges.

An EQ can spice up their vocals gaining much more presence in the sound signature. If wanted, their mids can also be slightly warmed up by a custom EQ. No harshness is added to their higher mids.

Highs & Treble

The ACZ KR06-6 highs are crazy bright and resolve some detail, something that tends a bit to a Senfer 4in1 and Senfer EN900 style.

As usually, this highs-emphasized tuning can lead to some piercing highs and/or sibilance. In the specific case of the ACZ KR06, the most noticeable peaks are perceived with sibilance.

The ACZ KR06 are certainly not for treble sensitive people but for “trebleheads” or people enjoying very bright highs.

An EQ makes their highs monumentally bright but please beware to tune up only frequencies above 6.5kHz or you will be overpowering their 5kHz peak. Of course, an EQ to boost highs will feed up their sibilance.

Sound Leak

The sounds that leaks out of the ACZ KR06-6 will be hearable in less noisy situations and when you crank up the volume. In normally noisy environments and while choosing a moderate volume setting, they will blend in.

Sound Isolation

Noise isolation of the ACZ KR06 is slightly less efficient than most average earphones – not by a big margin, though. What you should expect is partial isolation when listening to music at low volume settings and much stronger when dialing up over moderate levels.

Comfort

The ACZ KR06-6 have particularly light earpieces, this gives them a good starting point regarding comfort but they also have some pointy edges and deep nozzles that could add some discomfort to people with small ears – this will depend on each one and their ears size/shape.

Response to Equalization

The response to EQ of the ACZ KR06-6 was very efficient regarding brightness and vocals and less drastic with lower frequencies.
