The Akko Sailor Moon Crystal 5087B v2 has an all-time classic TKL 80% layout with no strange lack nor additional rows of keys and no extra knobs.

The Akko Sailor Moon Crystal 5087B v2 is “themed” keyboard with, as the name suggests, a design based on Sailor Moon Crystal with a main pink aesthetic that extends from the case/shell up to all the keycaps.

Of course, if you are not a fan of Sailor Moon or pink keyboards, you should not be reading this review.

The keyboard has 2-position adjustable feet to accommodate to the ergonomics preference of each user, while 4 rubberized strips keep the keyboard free of slippery issues.

CONSTRUCTION & BUILD

The Akko Sailor Moon Crystal 5087B v2 is a particularly light-weighted model for a battery powered keyboard; this is in great part thanks to the PC case which helps out to keep the unit lighter than other wireless keyboards.

Of course, you cannot expect the rugged feel of a metal keyboard but it neither feels more fragile than other plastic and PC keyboards.

From switches to stabs and keycaps, the device feels well assembled with only some wobbliness seen on the adjustable feet when fully extended.

Despite the light weight of the unit, the keyboard sports inside a premium gasket-mount design with a 5-layer dampening system that includes silicone gaskets, Poron plate foam, IXPE switch pad, Poron case foam and a silicone bottom case layer.

KEYCAPS

The keycaps of the Sailor Moon Crystal 5087B v2 are PBT Dye-sub, which ensure long lasting and zero fading throughout time.

Despite the fun theme, these should not be confused for standard quality keycaps, in fact these have a much thicker PBT material than many premium PBT keycaps.

The keycaps have an OEM profile and a mildly textured finish that feels nice to the touch while also providing better grip.

Aesthetically, the keycaps use a pink over pink theme with a 2-tone pink variant – the darker pink keycaps with dark fonts might not be too legible due to a lack of contrast.

This Sailor Moon themed keyboard has a triple mode connectivity with wired and wireless options.

Wirelessly, the keyboard can be paired through Bluetooth or by using 2.4G wireless tech with the bundled dongle – a detail about this Akko keyboard is that there is no slot for the dongle.

The wired system of the keyboard has a detachable USB-C connection with a recessed port that ensured longer durability and a better connection.

LIGHTING

On the bottom sides of the shell you will find a white frosted window that is used for the side RGB lights of the keyboard which do a better job than most side lights of other keyboards.

The south-facing LEDs match up quite well with the lighter pink color of the overall unit allowing a nice glow up and embellishment of the unit.

Moreover, the backlit RGB LEDs can be customized per key.

SOUND

As our variant of the Akko Sailor Moon Crystal 5087B v2 includes Akko silent switches, the keyboard does not exhibit a sound profile (as expected); instead, as a true silent keyboard, this Akko model does a fairly good job offering a stealthy typing experience while benefiting of a full-fledged high-quality components like the multi-layering dampening, gasket mount and lubed stabs.

Maybe, if being picky, the spacebar stabs could had benefited from a bit of extra lube to be fully silent.

The keyboard holds inside a 3000mAh rechargeable battery to enable the use of the keyboard wirelessly; the capacity of the battery is within average of many other modern keyboards but you might want to turn off the side RGB lights to prolong the battery runtime.
