Epomaker Alice 66, the brand-new, budget, Alice keyboard from Epomaker.

Epomaker has an endless growing catalog of keyboards but as the market for Alice keyboards is less massive as “normal” keyboards, the Alice layout is less-often found among keyboard manufacturers.
The Epomaker Alice 66 joins the offering from the brand as a fair-priced, compact keyboard for users that prefer this ergo-style.

ACCESSORIES & PACKAGING

4.25/5
Similar to the recently reviewed Epomaker P87, Epomaker Hack 59 and Epomaker Split 65, the Epomaker Alice 66 comes in a much more rugged and better packaging than other keyboards from the brand.
Bundled with the device you will find:
• 3x extra switches
• Keycap/switch puller
• USB cable
D
DESIGN

4/5
We have reviewed many mechanical keyboards with Alice layouts and we tend to find them ergonomically better than “standard” keyboard once (and if) you reprogram your muscle memory.

Another less “normal” element of this keyboard is its knob which unlike a typical rotary encoder for multimedia use, the one of the Alice 66 is, actually, a connectivity selector. Certainly a more unorthodox approach to knob’s design but, still, a feature that we have seen long time ago in the Epomaker Shadow-X and which proved to be very handy for users having a multi-PC/mobile system and who tend to switch constantly from one device to another.
From a design perspective, this keyboard has a 65% layout with 66 keys and a knob.
From the case material and finish and the keycaps theme, the Epomaker Alice 66 looks like an Alice variant of the Epomaker TH80 Pro V2 or Epomaker EK98, as both the case and keycaps are exactly the same in material, theme and finish.
In any case, this case and keycaps give the Epomaker Alice 66 a retro flavor with a light-colored design and less of a cartoonish look like the CIDOO ABM066 (also reviewed)
Some details that we found worth mentioning was that, despite having free space available to fit some extra keys, the Alice 66 lacks some standard keys that some users might use, like: Win key, right CTRL and right Alt; but it does include much more useful keys lacking in compact keyboards: arrow keys, Home and most of all Del (which we personally find essential for typing)

CONSTRUCTION & BUILD

4.25/5
The Epomaker Alice 66 is a fully plastic-made keyboard making use of ABS plastics for the entire case – the plastics quality in the Alice 66 is in the same level of other plastic models like the: Epomaker HACK 59, Epomaker Cypher 96, Epomaker TH99, Epomaker Split 65 and more or less similar to the Epomaker HE75 Tri, Epomaker HE75 Mag, Akko MOD007, Akko 5098B, CIDOO QK61, Skyloong GK-104 Pro.
Internally, though, the Alice 66 includes more or similar amount and quality of dampening layers than more expensive keyboards, holding inside a gasket-mount design with Poron Sandwich Foam, IXPE Switch Pad, Sound Enhancement Pad, Poron Switch Socket Pad, Bottom Silicone Pad, a polycarbonate plate and plate-mount stabs.
Of course, as expected from a modern keyboard from Epomaker, the board has hot-swappable sockets compatible with 3-pin and 5-pin switches and no need to solder.
On the bottom you will find 2-step adjustable feet and silicone style anti-slippery feet addons.

KEYCAPS

4/5
The keycaps of the Epomaker Alice 66 are made of PBT to withstand oily fingers and ensure fade-free durability.
On top of that, the keycaps have a thicker construction than budget PBT keycaps.
The set has Cherry profile and a texture-less design with a smooth finish and no grit on them – with the exception of the split spacebar and arrow keys, which have a subtle grainy finish.
Theme-wise, as we mentioned before in the review, the set is exactly the same as in the Epomaker TH80 Pro V2 and Epomaker EK98 – we have reviewed both, so you can check each review to see/read more about them.
SW
SWITCHES

4/5
The Epomaker Alice 66 might not have different theme and color options to choose from but it does include 2 switches models to select when buying it.
The 2 specific switches available pre-assembled from factory are:
• Epomaker Wisteria
• Epomaker Flamingo
Both switches are of linear type and we have tested them endless times with the many dozens of Epomaker keyboards reviewed so far.
The model of the Epomaker Alice 66 that we are reviewing came with Epomaker Wisteria switches (linear type and not the tactile variant), the Wisteria are one of the most popular and most used switches from the brand as the default linear switch for many of their keyboards. This does not come as a surprise as the switches perform very well with responsive and smooth feel and features such as scratchless travel.
A detail that we saw was that a few times we did notice the right split spacebar registering a double input but it was rare than frequent, seemed to improve after some time using it and, also, could be easily our fault from an overly fast typing.
CON
CONNECTIVITY

4.75/5
As mentioned in the design section, the knob of the keyboard is used to set the unit in Bluetooth, wired or 2.4G wireless modes; this knob is nicely made of metal and has a decisive tactile and clicky feedback per notch.
Nonetheless, you will find a small switch on the rear edge of the case, this is used to set the keyboard in Win or Mac mode.
For the wired mode, the keyboard uses a detachable USB-C connection.
P&E
PERFORMANCE & USE
TYPING
4.5/5
Same as what we found when reviewing other Alice keyboards (MonsGeek M6, CIDOO V68, CIDOO ABM06), the ergonomically-optimized form factor and layout was a joy to use for typing and as a daily driver.
GAMING
4.5/5
The Epomaker Alice 66 has many gaming-fulfilling features such as:
• Compact size
• Ergonomic design
• Hot-swappable
• NKRO
• 1000Hz polling rate
• Adjustable feet
• Backlight
PRODUCTIVITY
3.75/5
From an ergonomic point of view, this keyboard is a very worthy option but for serious productivity and long hours of office work the Alice 66 might fall short due to the absence of the F number row, a numpad, typical TKL extra keys and no media knob.
TABLET/MOBILE
4.5/5
This Alice keyboard has plenty of checked boxes as a mobile setup companion with Bluetooth connectivity, smaller than TKL size, some extra keys and light weight.
L
LIGHTING

4.5/5
The RGB LEDs of the Epomaker Alice 66 have a noticeably stronger brightness and a more eye-candy effect than other backlit keyboards.
This is also due to the south-facing design and some extra backlit sections such as a vertical RGB strip light on the left corner of the shell, the brand’s logo on the bottom right corner (that is backlit) and an unusual backlit logo on the bottom case – this last one does not add any visible effect unless you flip around the keyboard.
S
SOUND

5/5
The Epomaker Alice 66 proved that the dedicated dampening layers and attention to detail in the assembly and lube department was able to offer a much more premium sound profile than what you could expect from a plastic, budget keyboard.
In fact, the Alice 66 responded with a clean poppy/thocky sound profile that was a pleasure to hear on each keypress; at the same time the stabs came perfectly lubed from factory and no rattle nor echo were ever present.
SW
SOFTWARE

4.25/5
Despite the affordable price, the Epomaker Alice 66 is a QMK keyboard that can make full use of the versatile programming offered by VIA and its install-less software that runs on any web browser.
The Alice 66 saves all customizations in the internal on-board memory.
B
BATTERY

4/5
This compact keyboard has a battery a bit larger than other small competitors, offering a capacity of 4Ah.
