CIDOO V65, a new mechanical keyboard from CIDOO, with retro design.

The CIDOO V65 joins the V retro series of keyboards with most of the exceptional features and specs seen on both the bigger and smaller siblings.

To date we have reviewed several CIDOO keyboards and nearly all of them proved to be fantastic, high-quality keyboards and even some of them becoming daily drivers among the team – for example the CIDOO V75 PRO and CIDOO V21.

All metal keyboards from CIDOO provide similar or even better construction quality than premium DIY barebone kits, with an exceptionally rugged and hefty build.

The case itself is a tank-alike metal one that is faithful to the top-notch standards seen on every other metal keyboard and metal keypad from CIDOO that we have reviewed.

To be more specific, the CIDOO V65 is equipped with an aluminum CNC case.

Inside, the keyboard carries a hot-swappable board (compatible with 3-pin and 5-pin switches), a multi-dampening layer and a gasket mount design; among the layers you will find a Poron foam sound dampening layer and a polycarbonate plate.

KEYCAPS

The keycaps of the CIDOO V65 nail perfectly the retro scent, with its beige color and fonts design – the exact same keycaps of the V75 and V21 models.

The set does not only look nice, they are also premium dye-sub PBT keycaps with a way thicker body than most PBT keycaps seen pre-assembled on other keyboards.

The finish of the keycaps have a slightly textured feel that makes them slippery-feel, yet gentle to the touch.

On the right top edge, there is a metal knob that has a confident per-notch movement with also a tactile feel per step but remains completely silent.

SWITCHES

The CIDOO V65 comes with the same CIDOO Quark Matte custom mechanical switches that we have seen on both the CIDOO V75 PRO and CIDOO V21 PRO.

These linear switches offer a very versatile balance of forces and travel, becoming a switch able to cover all type of tasks and, yet, performing excellent on all of them.

On the other hand, CIDOO does not offer any other pre-assembled switches options but you can opt for the barebones DIY kit version of the CIDOO V65 is you prefer.

A less typical decision by CIDOO is that the Matte switches do not come with the light diffusers installed; instead, the brand ships the diffusers as an addon that you can manually install if you want them.

CONNECTIVITY

As a common standard with above-average keyboards from these recent times, they come usually with a tri-mode connectivity design but the CIDOO V65, instead, is a dual-mode keyboard.

This means that the CIDOO V65 can be used wired or wirelessly but as a wireless option you can only choose a Bluetooth connection and no 2.4G wireless is available.

On the other hand, the keyboard supports up to 4 different devices connected thanks to 3 independent Bluetooth connection slots.

The CIDOO V65 can be seen through 2 different approaches for productivity, being a 65% keyboard it can be compact but somewhat limiting for serious office work and productivity tasks as there will be no numpad and F number row keys.

On the other hand, when use with the seamless match of the CIDOO V21, you build up a phenomenal productive but compact keyboard system.

With a compact size and Bluetooth connectivity, the CIDOO V65 can be used with tablets and phones in a seamless combination – the limiting factor of this model will be the heavy weight for a portable keyboard to carry around the city all day.

On the other hand, the added knob and navigation keys over a standard 60% keyboard, makes the CIDOO V65 a more productive alternative.

The board of the CIDOO V65 has south-facing RGB LEDs, which do a better job than north-facing lights.

Despite not having shine-through keycaps, the brightness of the LEDs is higher than most average keyboards and the option to add light diffusers (included) provides a further level of customization.

When buying the CIDOO V65, users can enjoy the premium feel and sound of a custom DIY barebones kit with the comfort of receiving a fully pre-assembled keyboard.

Another common detail seen on CIDOO’s upper-tier models, is that the plate-mounted stabilizers come in pristine condition and accurately prelubed, acting in a snappy but fully rattle-free way – a detail that many premium Akko keyboards usually do not nail (for example, Akko MOD007 series and some Akko keyboards with magnetic switches)

This CIDOO keyboard is VIA programmable, which means that after downloading the JSON file corresponding to the CIDOO V65 you gain access to the freedom of programming, macros, layers, etc. of VIA without the need of any software installation and saved on its on-board memory – even the knob’s functions can be reprogrammed.
