It is fair to highlight that the Ajazz AK870 is also fully called Ajazz x NACODEX AK870; in case that you find it under the full or short name, they are the same keyboard.

When purchasing the Ajazz AK870, you will need to be careful as the keyboard is available with and without a display screen. The model that we are reviewing is the model with a screen.

The display of the AJAZZ AK870 is very similar in size and style to what we have seen on other reviewed keyboards (SKYLOONG GKK87 PRO Lite, Keydous NJ98, Keydous NJ98-CP, CIDOO ABM066) but there is a design detail that makes the whole difference on this AJAZZ model; this is the fact that the screen is positioned inside an enclosure that has a tilt angle of 45 degrees.

This tilted positioning makes a huge difference in the usability and visibility of the screen, being better aimed at the natural angle of sight of the user while typing and avoiding major visibility issues like what happened with the EPOMAKER TH80 PRO V2 and EPOMAKER Shadow-S.

The current issue with the screen is that the brand has not released any software to set it up.

CONSTRUCTION & BUILD

The Ajazz AK870 has an ABS case and a hot-swappable board that allows users to change on-the-fly any switch without having desolder and resolder.

Despite the plastic case, the Ajazz AK870 hides beneath a plethora of high-quality elements such as a 5-layer padding design (2x Poron foam, IXPE switch pad, PET pad, silicone pad), a gasket mounted design, flex-cut polycarbonate plate and PC PCB.

Another detail that is not well-documented nor highlighted by AJAZZ, is that fact that the screen and knob are a single module that can be hot-swapped and theoretically replaced by 3 switches+keycaps, as beneath it, the board has 3x fully functional south-facing 5-pin mechanical switches slots.

KEYCAPS

The keyboard comes pre-assembled with excellent double-shot PBT keycaps, ensuring fade-free and oil-resistance features.

The keycaps have a subtly textured finish that give them a remarkably pleasant feel to the touch while enhancing the anti-slippery characteristics – you might note that the main keycaps has a lower texture grit than the rest of the set.

The 3-color aesthetics of the case extend also to the keycaps set with main keys in white with purple fonts and the remaining keys being purple and blue with white fonts.

The knob is not made of metal as on most other keyboards that we have reviewed but it does not flimsy nor fragile, while still offering per-notch tactile feedback and a very light and fast response to rotational inputs.

The AK870 can be chosen with many different preassembled switches; to be more precise, there are 4 switches to choose from:

• KTT Hyacinth switch
• Maillard switch
• Gift switch
• Flying Fish switch

The model of the Ajazz AK870 that we are reviewing came assembled with KTT Hyacinth switches, which are mechanical linear switches with a bit heavier than average operating force and a bit faster personality due to a shorter pre-travel.

The Ajazz AK870 can be connected an used in 3 different ways; users can decide to use the keyboard wired through the detachable USB-C cable or go wireless by connecting it through a Bluetooth or 2.4G wireless system – the dongle for the 2.4G connection is included with the keyboard.

The back edge of the keyboard hold the connection and compatibility switches, the USB-C connector and the 2.4G dongle inside its dedicated storage compartment.

The Ajazz AK870 ticks all boxes here, plus offering a premium internal build, light and portable weight and quality switches.

The extra keys of the TKL layout, plus a knob and screen and the Bluetooth connectivity; packed in a keyboard that weights much less than similarly features competitors, can make the Ajazz AK870 a smart choice for mobile setups, phone and tablets.

LIGHTING

The refreshing color design of the Ajazz AK870 (in its purple with white variant) was even more embellished when turning on the south-facing RGB LED lights of the board, resulting in a fun but not excessively lit effect.

The screen and decorative ring light on the top case were additional details that made it pop in comparison to other RGB keyboards.

SOUND

The airy aesthetics and plastic case of the Ajazz AK870 might make you think that this will have a consumer-alike sound profile; instead, the Ajazz AK870 surprised the team with an unexpectedly excellent thock sound without the need of any manual lubing nor modding – this highly reminded us to what we experienced when reviewing the Ajazz AK820 Pro and RECCAZR R66.

As a point of comparison, the stabilizers of the Ajazz AK870 were pristinely prelubed and significantly better lubed than the stabs of premium keyboards that we have reviewed like the Akko MU01 Mountain Seclusion, Akko MOD 007 PC 7th Anniversary and Akko MOD007B HE PC Tokyo.

SOFTWARE

A detail that we found interesting to list is that the Ajazz AK870 (with screen) gets recognized and installed as a AK870 MAX model.

Software is one of the weak points of Ajazz as sometimes their software presents some rough edges of bugs; in the case of the Ajazz AK870, the brand has not released a compatible software so far.

This is a pity as it will limit the customization options of the keyboard and cripples the use of the screen as you will not even be able to set the correct time and date.

To be more precise, a time correction software tool does exist for Mac only.

BATTERY

The Ajazz AK870 has a similar battery size as many other Ajazz keyboards; with a capacity of 4000mAh the internal battery is well-powered to provide long working time for the keyboard in wireless mode.
