Tronsmart has relaunched their speakers offerings with a brand new series called Mirtune; the Tronsmart Mirtune H1 is the smallest current model of the Mirtune family, with a footprint that is exponentially tinier than the Tronsmart Mirtune S100 that we will review.

Design

By the design and features of the Tronsmart Mirtune H1 it can be clearly seen that this is a Bluetooth speaker designed for portability.

As a matter of fact, this speaker even includes a built-in carabiner so users can easily hook it to backpacks or tents while doing some trekking or camping.

Beside the carabiner hooking, thanks to a flat bottom and semi-flat edges, the Tronsmart Mirtune H1 can be, also, positioned either aiming up when laid down on its back or sideways sitting on either left or right edge (this last mode might only stand still if the surface is flat and stable enough)

Aesthetically, the speaker looks polished, harmonic and much better than many other Bluetooth speakers that are either overly filled with bells and whistles or too tacky.

The speaker is equipped with 4 physical buttons to fully control all main playback and call features. On the upper front section you will find 3 protruding and easily recognized by touch buttons that control play/pause/skip/call and volume, while on the upper back you will find 2 small buttons (power and Bluetooth) and a multi-LED status indicator.

The Tronsmart Mirtune H1 has, definitely, a smart and cute design but we would love to see it offered in more colorful alternatives too besides the only 2 colors available.

Construction Quality and Build

To be honest, the construction quality of the Tronsmart Mirtune H1 is unexpectedly remarkable for such a small and cheap-priced speaker.

In fact, the other entry-level, small speaker from Tronsmart that we have reviewed (Tronsmart Trip) has a much less rugged build when directly compared with the Mirtune H1.

In the Design section, we have mentioned some of the particular features of the Mirtune H1 but there are also some additional features that enhance its portable and outdoor usage, like a rugged external shell design with protective rubberized covers all around the edges and bottom of the unit – the speaker reaches a respectable IPX7 waterproof rating.

The front of the speaker inherits the well-proven fabric cover seen on many Bluetooth speakers from Tronsmart and also other brands like JBL; this fabric provides a protective layer without blocking the sound output.

Battery Life

Despite the small size, the Tronsmart Mirtune H1 has a rated battery life of 20 hours of continuous playback time on a single charge.

This is in part due to the power efficiency of a modern Bluetooth v5.3 and the fairly large battery capacity of 2000mAh.

Sound

The Tronsmart Mirtune H1 should not be underestimated despite its tiny size and affordable price; the tests of the H1 surprised the team with quite a punch and a fun/exciting mid-bass to spice up any track. Another unexpected surprise was that the tiny speaker was even able to slightly handle sub-bass with less-empty notes than similarly sized (and some bigger sized) Bluetooth speakers – the speaker has a rated frequency range of 70Hz-20kHz.

Lower frequencies, still, never exhibited an overcooked, bloated nor overly boosted tuning as to destroy the whole sound signature and the rest of the sound spectrum.

In addition to this, without any extra EQ, the speaker presents a full and cozy midrange but without becoming overly warm nor congested.

Users will be able to appreciate male and female vocals with respectable clarity and crispness while, at the same time, the upper midrange will not turn into harshness.

Highs and treble are other regions well balanced and tuned out of the box, with a sufficiently bright flavor without becoming neither piercing nor sibilant and yet offering a non-muffled personality.

Of course, as you might imagine, because of the rugged and well-enclosed design, the Tronsmart Mirtune H1 has a very directional sound that comes entirely from the front of the unit; yet, the angle of coverage coming from the front driver unit is fairly well wide for a non-360 surround speaker.

In spite of having a rated power of “just” 8W, the speaker was remarkably loud and was proficient either to add fun to small outdoor gatherings, walking sessions and easily filled smaller rooms.

Connectivity

The Tronsmart Mirtune H1 is a budget and small speaker and part of the entry-level series from Tronsmart, being so, this model does not inherit the multi-I/O connections from the bigger and more expensive siblings.

Instead, the Mirtune H1 has only 1 connection that is meant for charging the speaker (USB-C) and can be exclusively used in Bluetooth wireless mode.

Response to Equalization

Being that the speaker does not have a dedicated SoundPulse EQ button, some users might think that this model does not offer this features; instead, the Mirtune H1 is fully compatible with Tronsmart mobile app and allows the access to EQ presets and the activation of SoundPulse.

As on most Tronsmart speakers, the effect of EQ over the baseline sound flavor is significant and instantly noticeable.
