HIDIZS Mermaid MM2, the newest in-ear monitors from HIDIZS.
The HIDIZS Mermaid MM2 are the 6th earphone model released by the brand, being placed as a mid-tier; right below their flagship Mermaid MS4.
Despite the mid-tier title and accessible price, the MM2 feature a dual hybrid driver configuration with a 6mm Low-voltage Magneto-static BM Driver and a 10.2mm dynamic driver, a N52 neodymium magnet, 3 pair of tuning filters (valves) and a quad-core high purity silver & OFC wires

The HIDIZS Mermaid MM2 includes 6 pair of eartips, 3 pair of sound filters, 1x filters plate made of metal, 1x 2-pin 0.78mm cable, 1x leather carrying hardcase.
The earphone comes in a nice packaging with enough protection and padding to ensure the correct arrival of your purchase without risks while also serving as a storage box.

Bass & Sub Bass
First of all, it is important to highlight that the default filter placed from factory does not comes fully screwed in. Therefore, it is essential that users firstly screw and place correctly the sound filters before using the earphone.
With a punchy and fun midbass, this HIDIZS earphones are capable of adapting to any track thrown at them, as their punchiness remains energetic but not loose.
In addition to this, the lower end of it’s bass is always able to reach the requested deepness without sounding neither shallow nor drowning the sound signature.
Overall, the bass of the HIDIZS Mermaid MM2 sounds just right out of the box.
This HIDIZS earphones come with 2 additional pair of filters that are intended for treble (silver) and bass (red), in the past we have reviewed many earphones with interchangeable sound filters, which ended up being a gimmicky selling point without any sound effects.
Contrary to most other earphones with filters, the Mermaid MM2 did show a substantial sound variation according and corresponding to the filter used.
The most pronounced effect was seen with the bass filter (red) with a massive increment of up to nearly 7dB of boosting on low, mid and upper bass and a real bass empowerment that is far from being a gimmicky marketing slogan.

Mids & Vocals
The HIDIZS Mermaid MM2 have a nicely cozy midrange with good balance.
The lower mids on the MM2 show a clean but warm sound that allows male vocals to sound full yet not distant nor laid-back.
Higher mids and female vocals tend to be a bit more forward with a crispier a more alive feel, which gives an energetic feel to any track.
On the other hand, with high-pitched and shouty vocals some mid harshness can arise but we found it to be fairly tolerable.
As mentioned in the section above, the bass filter was the most noticeable filter which also extended it’s boost over the whole midrange with a forward effect that was most intense over the lower midrange – of course, expect congestion and a way warmer sound over mids with this filter.

Highs & Treble
Highs on the Mermaid MM2 provide a brightish sound that does not become neither over nor under cooked.
Overall their highs feel sufficiently well distributed to cover a wider range of genres and staying far from dark and muffling issues.
Moreover, this earphones showed a fairly controlled level of fatiguing peaks where both sibilance and piercing highs were not frequent nor very intense.
The same bass filter mentioned in both sections above had a clear sound effect over the highs and treble sections with a noticeable attenuation of ranges from 1.2Hz to 3.5Hz.

Sound Leak
The level of leakage of this HIDIZS headphones falls within the same range of most average headphones.
This means that they will not disturb nearby people on any normally noisy situation but could not be the best fit for libraries when listening to music at a higher volume.

Sound Isolation
The isolation provided by the MM2 is a bit stronger than on most average headphones with a good reduction of the awareness of the surrounding noises that can easily reach absolute isolation by cranking up the volume of your music.

ConclusionThe HIDIZS Mermaid MM2 are a superb bang for buck being that the 3 pair of filters absolutely retuned the sound signature of the earphone and, contrary to most other earphones that come with sound filters, the effects are truly noticeable as of having 3 different earphones.
