BlitzWolf BW-ES1
| 10 mm Graphene Driver |
🎧 BlitzWolf BW-ES1 a 10 mm graphene dynamic driver earphone with metal housings. BlitzWolf is a brand that manufactures electronic accessories and small gadgets but they suddenly launched 2 earphones that surprised the market and captivated a big amount of people with the BlitzWolf BW-ES1 and the BlitzWolf BW-VOX1 (which looks identical to the AudioSense AS20).
The BlitzWolf BW-ES1 is a good looking earphone that holds inside a larger than average 10 mm dynamic driver with graphene diaphragms. If you are wondering what is this graphene thing, let us quote the words from BlitzWolf on this regard (including their grammar and punctuation mistakes):
What is the Graphene earphones? Earphones using graphene offer superb frequency response. The reason for this down to the graphene diaphragm’s simplicity: Most diaphragms/cones must be dampened to prevent undesirable frequency responses, graphene requires no dampening. This is because graphene is so strong that the disphragm can be incredibly thin- and thus very light.Instead of being artificially dampened, the graphene diaphragm is dampened by the air itself. Graphene is also very energy efficient which lead to reduced power consumption.”
Letting the graphene topic aside, the housings of the BlitzWolf BW-ES1 are made of metal, feel well constructed and solid. The back plate of the housings have an aesthetic silver ring that adds to the premium look of the earphones. The form factor and size of the BlitzWolf BW-ES1 resembles quite a bit to some Xiaomi earphones that we have reviewed, the Xiaomi Mi Piston Basic Edition and the Xiaomi Mi Piston Fresh Edition but with a more refined look.
The cables are rounded and rubberized and they hold inline a well designed microphone and a 3-button control which allows you to control volume up/down, play/pause songs, skip songs and answer/reject calls. The 3-button control is universally compatible with Android and iOS devices. The cable and most of all the mic/control looks identical to the one found in some UiiSii earphones such as the microdriver UiiSii Hi-705. The stereo plug section is made of metal and the jack itself is 24k gold plated to prevent oxidation.
You can buy the BlitzWolf BW-ES1 in black with the mic/3-button control.

B
Bass & Sub Bass
Bass coming from the 10 mm graphene dynamic driver of the BlitzWolf BW-ES1 is energetic with punchy mid-bass and enough sub-bass. There is not much to worry about regarding bass with the BlitzWolf BW-ES1, they will respond great to any bass request made by any type of genre and/or song.
Applying an EQ there was an important increase in punch and depth but with an overall decrease in the quality of the bass provided.
During our extreme bass tests, the BlitzWolf BW-ES1 was able to handle up to 67% of the maximum power of a Fiio E12 portable amplifier while setting it to high gain, bass boost on and using a custom basshead EQ. As a result there was an insane increase of mid-bass and sub-bass achieving a strong basshead impact and rumble way above the KZ ATE and around the KZ ZS2 basshead level. Despite their incredible basshead performance they will still not reach the level of the Pioneer SE-CX8, Sony MDR-EX800ST or the KZ ZST.

Mids & Vocals
Mids of the BlitzWolf BW-ES1 have very warm lower vocals that may become laid back at times if there is too much mid-bass in a song. Higher and middle mids are well reproduced with clear sound and energy but can reach harshy peaks with strong peaks. With an EQ, lower vocals remove their recession and there is a substantial reduction of mid-bass bleed but can start to sound boxy if overdone. Higher mids increase their harshness so trying not to feed up higher mid frequencies would be a wise decission.

H
Highs & Treble
The BlitzWolf BW-ES1 has bright highs with a low level of detail. Highs can get slightly piercing with very high notes but do not sound too sibilant. After an EQ, highs sound much brighter while it still struggles to resolve much detail. Piercing highs remain as strong as before but sibilance gets enhanced a bit.
7/10
SL
Sound Leak
The quantity of sound that leaks out of these earphones is modestly higher than most average earphones, meaning that if you use mediumly high to high volumes the sound coming out of them will be heard by nearby people even on normally noisy situations, at lower volume they do not leak too much sound.
6.5/10
SI
Sound Isolation
Noise isolation is very good, even low levels of volume can be set and the BlitzWolf BW-ES1 will still provide an effective level of isolation.

C
Comfort
The metal housings are well designed with good ergonomics and 60° angled nozzles that provide solid and comfortable fit with the capacity of securely holding their place under normal usage and remaining pain-free even after prolonged listening sessions. The back section of the housings provide an easy to grab and handle experience.
9/10
EQ
Response to Equalization
The BlitzWolf BW-ES1 showed a good response to the EQs that we applied but some undesired issues were enhanced too. Lower frequencies got strongly powered; mids and vocals cleared up significantly but with the risk of becoming boxy; higher frequencies became a bit more sibilant but a substantial level of brightness was added.

Summary
- Strong, fun and energetic bass
- Excellent comfort and fit
- Very effective noise isolation
- Can reach strong basshead level impact and rumble if handled correctly
- Sound leak might be marginally worse than an average earphone
- Intermittent mids harshness and piercing highs could be too much for treble sensitive people
- The BlitzWolf BW-ES1 offer excellent build quality, premium looks and energetic sound with their graphene diaphragms. Mids and highs may not be audiophile grade but will make happy most normal listeners (excluded treble sensitive listeners).
If highly and correctly amplified and eqed they are able to reach top basshead impact; performance that made them sit in our Top Basshead Earphones Chart.
As an overall good performer with refined looks, they can be recommended to most normal listeners that are aware of the possible piercing highs that may show at times.
