Bass & Sub Bass
It is important to highlight that, to obtain the best sound quality, it is fundamental to achieve a correct placement of the earpiece section over the entrance of the ear canal; even a slight mispositioning above, below or to the sides will drastically reduce the sound quality – this equally applies to all sound ranges from bass, mids and highs.
Unexpectedly, the SoundPEATS RunFree Lite does not suffer from the typical flat and shallow bass from air conduction headphones.
Instead, this headphone is able to a respectable amount of punch, even reaching a subtle ear vibration from the midbass pumping power.
Looking at sub-bass, the headphone shows a clear fall-off as expected from the non-sealing fit of every air conduction design. Despite this, the SoundPEATS RunFree Lite reproduce sufficient sub-bass as not to respond with empty notes and a far deeper sound that any other air and bone conduction headphone that we have tested so far.

Mids & Vocals
Air conduction headphones are not meant nor designed for clarity and audio definition but for sports activities and awareness of the environment. In fact, by design and with current air conduction tech, these kind of headphones will never compete with in-ear, on-ear nor over-headphones when searching for audio quality.
Nonetheless, the open grids accessing directly the cavity of the dynamic driver of the SoundPEATS RunFree Lite allows them to offer a substantially less muffled midrange than most other air and bone conduction headphones.
We can even dare to say that our tests revealed that these air conduction model can enter the competition against average on-ear headphones.
Regarding it`s sound specific characteristics, the RunFree Lite offers a very warm and intimate sound with not a single drop of harshness.
In comparison with other air conduction headphones, this one showed a way better overall midrange but do not expect the same sound quality of a good in-ear or over-ear headphone.

Highs & Treble
The most affected sound spectrum range by the air conduction design (in this case) is the upper end, compromising the brightness and detail of both highs and treble.
To their benefit, this darker tint and non-forward tuning makes them 100% not fatiguing with no peaks in areas such as sibilance and piercing spikes.
The particular acoustic design issues, obviously affect also the highs and treble ranges.
Indeed, these ranges show a dark and not very detailed sound.
Similar to their mids, there are no disturbing peaks such as sibilance nor piercing spikes.

Comfort
The air conduction design allows a non-invasive placement that does not get inside the ear canal nor covers the ears as to introduce heat and transpiration on hotter climates. This design feature allows them to adapt very well to users looking to have some music while practicing sports (in addition to the awareness capabilities of this headphone). Other practical uses include that reduction of ear infection and wax as the earpiece do not enter the ear canal nor physically push the wax deeper in the ears.
On the other hand, the loop end section is made of hard plastics, has a curvier shape and a reduction on the space for the ears to fit in comparison to other similar headphones; this made it more difficult to fit but once placed on there were no discomfort nor fit issues.
