The TRN VX drivers configuration includes 6 balanced armatures, a 10mm dynamic driver and dual neodymium magnets per earpiece. In addition to this, audio-enthusiasts that are keeping track of BA models inside budget-IEMs, will be interested in knowing that the TRN VX’s BA inside the earpieces are: 3x 50060 BA and 3x 30095.

Just a few years ago, it was simply impossible even imagining to find an hybrid 7-driver in-ear monitor at the price that the brand is nowadays offering the TRN VX – times have evolved and for the joy of budget-conscious audiophiles, brands such as TRN can provide this multi-complex configurations at crazy-accessible prices.

The housings are fully build in metal with a rugged feel that, yet, feels particularly light-weighted in comparison to other metal IEM like the:

To be more specific, the housings of the TRN VX are made of an aerospace-grade magnesium alloy.

Aesthetically, the TRN VX has a characteristic look with a wavy rear panel and rear-bottom section with a slight concave form – it looks even more characteristic in the green version (like the one being reviewed by us), thanks to a metallic-pearled finish and a green gamut that is quite attractive.

Inside, owners will find 3 pair of eartips and a detachable cable with a 2-pin connection design – nothing exciting here; the bundled accessories and packaging are inline with most budget ChiFi models of the last years.

Bass & Sub Bass

TRN did a nice job with the lower frequencies of the TRN VX, with a punchy mid-bass that brings fullness and fun to any track while preserving a respectably non-bouncy nor overstepping profile.

The lower-end of it’s bass can provide a deep and never-shy amount of sub-bass to fulfill nearly any genre, yet sounding well distributed and never too boosted.

If you are a TRN fan, this one will offer a better balanced and less basshead-styled response over their lower frequencies.

With an EQ, the bass response of the VX can be pushed into a much more saturated and hard-hitting tuning but users will loose the tasty bass fun/balance that the brand achieved out of the box.

Through out our extreme basshead tests, the TRN VX handled as much as 40% of the max power coming from our testing amp, with massive increment of both punch and depth but not reaching any memorable basshead rumble nor impact.

Mids & Vocals

The TRN VX offered a warm and cozy midrange, with full-bodied male vocals and a well-balanced overall feel.

Lower mids do not exhibit any excessive amount of mid-bass bleed nor overpowering congestion, yet it is fair highlighting that the general tuning of the lower and mid midrange of the TRN VX tends to a gentler a more agreeable personality than a forwardly boosted one.

Higher mids and female vocals, on the contrary, are a bit more aggressive than the aforementioned.

Despite this, their upper mids do not fall into a forward nor fatiguing tuning style – harshness is not an issue with the TRN VX.

An EQ can incorporate a way cleaner but noticeably less-warm midrange response, though this will allow users with vast EQ experience to adjust the flavor of their mids at will.

Highs & Treble

The TRN VX is able to offer a decent amount of detail with highs and treble that are well-matched with their midrange’s style.

Specifically, the highs and treble of the TRN VX has a “relaxed’ flavor with a non-clinical tuning.

Moreover, this TRN IEM presents an enjoyable balance where sufficient brightness is brought to the table while a slight darkish tint is layered on top of it to sedate the frequency of overly-hot peaks – moderate sibilance will only show up on very sibilant tracks.

We would not rate them as a perfect match for audiophiles with an OCD for analytical highs, instead the TRN VX will be a great companion for listeners who look for a pleasant but non-muddy sound without needing an EQ.

Sound Leak

The sound leaking out of the TRN VX is more or less inline with many average headphones.

This makes the VX a capable model for daily commuting and everyday situations without disturbing nearby people but for library use and lower volume setting will be needed.

Sound Isolation

The sound isolation provided by the TRN VX is fairly efficient byl provide an instant partial isolation stronger than many average headphones.

Yet, they will not reach absolute isolation from the environment as other award-winning models in this category.

With small-sized housings, rounded, curvy forms and no sharp edges; the TRN VX provides a very comfortable experience while wearing them.

Moreover, the earpieces can reach an almost-flush fit with the ears – which frequently adds up to the comfort and fit efficiency, in comparison with large and protruding models.
